Italy celebrated 59-51 victory over Belgium in the last day of the Preliminary Round in Amsterdam. Italy ended as the second ranked team of Group A with almost perfect 4-1 record. Their rival in the Quarterfinals will be Spain or Holland (will be known tonight). At the other side, Belgium ended as No.4 in this pool and also advanced to the next stage. In the QFinals Belgium will play against undefeated Japan. Italy was 4-points up at the beginning of Q4 and they jumped to plus 10 with 3:07 remaining in the game. It was too much for Belgium for rest of the way. Quarters: 16-9, 17-21, 14-13, 12-8. Elisa Penna (186-SG-95) paced Italy with double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds. Cecilia Zandalasini (181-SF-96) had 14 points and 6 rebs, while Elisa Ercoli (190-C-95) added 11 pts and 9 boards to this win. Belgium got 13 points and 6 rebs from Hind Ben Abdelkader (170-PG-95). Their second scorer was An-Katrien Nauwelaers (178-PF-95) with 8 pts. Quarterfinals are scheduled for Friday. Tomorrow all teams will have a day-off.
