Spirou Charleroi has added an American point guard who is no stranger to playing in Belgium in Carldell Johnson (177-G-83, college: UAB) also known as Squeaky Johnson. After his college career at Alabame-Birmingham his first overseas job was in Belgium where he played for Verviers-Pepinster duriung the 2006-2007 season. After that season in Europe he returned to the Americas where he played in the D-League and in Mexico. In 2007-2008 he played in Mexico for Halcones Xalapa and later in the season moved to the D-League's Austin Toros. He also split the 08-09 season between Mexico and the D-league. For the next 3 seasons he pretty much played full time for the Austin Toros and this past season he was picked up by the New Orleans Hornets where he played 15 games. His best statistical season was 2010-2011 when he averaged 12.3 ppg and 6.0 apg for the Austin Toros.
In other news Mike Scott (203-F-86, college: Kent St.) who was rumoured to have left the team was still on the roster for yesterday's win vs Antwerp. The team management has now confirmed his departure and signing at Red Star Belgrad.
Jiri Welsch who was still on the team's payroll recently signed with Nymburk.
Recently signed (5 years) Serbian young promise Nikola Jankovic (205-PF-94) played his first minutes for his new team in their game vs Antwerp.

Swingman Devin Green (201-82, college: Hampton) answered with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds and point guard Jerome Randle (178-87, college: California) added 14 points in the effort for Spirou Charleroi. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Aalstar shot down Oostende on the road to gain the lead in the series. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 95-84. Okapi Aalstar made 25-of-29 free shots (86.2 percent) during the game. 26 personal fouls committed by Base Oostende helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American guard Ryan Thompson (198-89, college: Rider) fired 28 points for the winners. His fellow American import Derek Raivio (190-84, college: Gonzaga) chipped in a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 assists. Four Okapi Aalstar players scored in double figures. Justin Cage joined Mons-Hainaut back in 2009. He tallied 11.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game this season. Some time ago Excelsion Brussels received their license to play the 2013-2014 in the Ethias League. Today the team announced part of their roster for next season. Most of the players are new for the team now called Brussels Basketball. Besides the earlier announced Brandon Ubel, the team's other foreign players are Canadian Stephen Ross (201-G/F-80, agency: Court Side, college: Santa Clara) and Senegalese Ahmet Gueye (203-C/F-82, college: Hawaii) who most recently played for Waregem. New to the team are former Gembo players Nick Celis (194-G-88) and Eurobasket's D2 player of the year Domien Loubry (186-G-85). Maxime Verspeeten (192-SG-94), Ludovic Pourtoit (182-G-88), Geoffrey Hockins (188-PG-88), Maxime Depuydt (192-F-92), Toly Kazakis are the other names released by the team. They also announced to still be negotiating with a small forward and want to add another power forward and one player with dual affiliation. Ross is a Canadian with lots of European experience having played before in Levallois, Leiden, Groningen and most recently Craiova and Cluj Napoca in Rumania. This past season in Rumania he averaged 11.7 ppg and 5.9 rpg. The team will still be coached by Serge Crevecoeur
