After 4 rounds played we can already see who rules in the Ethias League and who belongs to weaker ones.

The most surprising game was the first loss of undefeated Okapi Aalstar (3-1) at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by fifth ranked Belfius Mons-Hainaut (2-2) 82-78. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Okapi Aalstar. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Brian Qvale (210-88, college: Montana) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import guard Jonathan Wallace (187-86, college: Georgetown, agency: Pro One Sports) who added 21 points and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) during the contest. At the losing side American guard Ryan Thompson (198-89, college: Rider) responded with 19 points. Belfius Mons-Hainaut moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Antwerp and Oostende. Okapi Aalstar at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. They share it with Spirou and Liege. Belfius Mons-Hainaut is looking forward to face higher ranked Spirou Charleroi (#3) at home in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Okapi Aalstar will play against the league's second-placed Liege Basket in Liege and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Antwerp Giants (2-2) against fourth ranked Spirou Charleroi (3-1) on Thursday night. Visiting Antwerp Giants were defeated by Spirou Charleroi in Charleroi 70-53. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The winners were led by American swingman Matt Walsh (197-82, college: Florida) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and Je'Kel Foster supported him with 17 points and 4 assists. Even a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds by American power forward Jason Love (206-87, college: Xavier) did not help to save the game for Antwerp Giants. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Spirou Charleroi have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Aalstar and Liege. Antwerp Giants at the other side dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with Oostende and M.Hainaut. Spirou Charleroi will play against Belfius Mons-Hainaut (#6) in Quaregnon in the next round where they are favorite. Antwerp Giants will play at home against Base Oostende and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Third ranked Liege Basket blasted bottom-ranked VOO Verviers-Pepinster (0-4) in Verviers 89-57 on Friday evening. VOO Verviers-Pepinster is still unable to win any game. Lionel Bosco fired 8 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. Liege Basket's coach Fulvio Bastianini felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Jeremy Green produced 13 points for lost side. Liege Basket have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Spirou and Aalstar. Loser VOO Verviers-Pepinster still closes the standings with four games lost. Liege Basket will meet at home league's leader Okapi Aalstar in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. VOO Verviers-Pepinster will play against Leuven Bears (#7) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
Sixth ranked Base Oostende (2-2) crushed at home 7th ranked Leuven Bears (1-3) by 43 points 100-57, which is the biggest margin this round. It was a very good performance for Matt Lojeski who helped to win the game recording 30 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his eleven free throws !!!). The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Antwerp and M.Hainaut. Leuven Bears lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with three games lost. Base Oostende's next round opponent will be Antwerp Giants (#4) on the road. Leuven Bears will play against VOO Verviers-Pepinster and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
