American swingman Matt Walsh (197-F/G-82) had a great game in the last round for Spirou, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 4. The 30-year old player had a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds, while his team crushed Antwerp (#4, 2-2) with 17-point margin 70-53. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Spirou is placed at 3rd position in Belgian Ethias League. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost that single game earlier this season. Spirou will need more victories to improve their 3-1 record. Walsh turned to be Spirou's top player in his first season with the team. Former University of Florida star has very solid stats this year. Walsh is league's best scorer averaging so far 22.0ppg. Walsh is in league's top in rebounds (5th best: 6.5rpg), assists (5th best: 4.0apg) and averages impressive 57.1% FGP.
The second best player in last round's games was 27-year old American Matt Lojeski (198-G-85) of Oostende. Lojeski had a very good evening with 30 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Of course he lead Oostende to another comfortable win outscoring slightly lower-ranked Leuven (#7, 1-3) 100-57. This victory allowed Oostende to move up to 5th position in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 2-2 record is not bad and everything may still change. Lojeski is one of the most experienced players at Oostende and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 18.8ppg (#3). He also registered 4.8 boards per game.
Third on the list of top players last round was another Oostende's star - Slovenian forward Dragisa Drobnjak (200-F-77, agency: Beo Basket). Drobnjak scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds. He was another key player of Oostende, helping his team with a 100-57 easy win against slightly lower-ranked Leuven (#7, 1-3). Oostende needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 2 victories and 2 lost games. The season just started for Drobnjak as he played only first game. But it already looks like he can be another team's leader.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Lionel Bosco (176-PG-81) of Liege - 8 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists 5. Brian Qvale (210-C-88) of M.Hainaut - 17 points and 9 rebounds 6. Je'Kel Foster (191-G-83) of Spirou - 17 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists 7. Jamel McLean (203-F-88) of Oostende - 13 points and 6 rebounds 8. Ryan Thompson (198-G-89) of Aalstar - 19 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists 9. Jason Love (206-F/C-87) of Antwerp - 10 points and 10 rebounds 10. Wen Boss Mukubu (198-F-83) of Liege - 14 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists
The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

It should be a nice occasion for Belgian basketball fans to attend high-level basketball games at the Complexe sportif in Neder-over-Heembeek, in the Brussels area. Fraport Skyliners Frankfurt will most probably come to the Belgian capital with their new German center Daniel Mayr (217-C-95), arriving from Bayern Munich, and their Canadian guard Philip Scrubb (190-G-92), who previously played for AEK Athens. KK Cibona VIP Zagreb, the club of former superstar Drazen Petrovic and many other Yugoslav legends like Kresimir Cosic or Danko Cvjeticanin, should also come to Brussels with an impressive roster, including Zagreb-born Zeljko Sakic (204-F-88, agency: BeoBasket) who just returns from Rio where he played for Croatia in the Olympics as well as Emir Sulejmanovic (204-F/C-95) who has been included on the Bosnia and Herzegovina senior national team this summer.
