Generali Okapi Aalstar leads Group E of the EuroChallenge after their triumph over BCMU Pitesti on Tuesday night.

The Romanians played without Octavian Calota (186-PG-84). In the first quarter, Okapi center John Tofi (203-F/C-84, college: UTEP) was well present in the paint. The local team quickly took a large lead while only three players scored for the visitors.

After a few turnovers by the hosts, BCMU came closer: 26-20 on a lay-up by Drasko Albijanic (211-C-86). Nevertheless, the Okapis finished the second quarter strongly and led 50-34 at half-time.

The hosts kept the same rhythm in the third quarter and even made the show for the local supporters. Coach Brad Dean could make some substitutions in the last quarter in order to preserve some of his key players in view of the Ethias League shock against Telenet Oostende to be played at the Forum in Aalst next Friday. Dean's players literally dominated the game from start to finish. BCM U Pitesti's shooters had a hard time hitting shots from long range (three-point average: 2/13, 15.4%) while Okapi players were pretty efficient from behind the three-point line (6/9, 66.7%). The hosts, with big men like Christopher Young (206-F/C-79, agency: Court Side, college: Michigan), John Tofi and Noah Hartsock (203-F, college: BYU) also outrebounded the losing side 38-20 in this game.

Special mentions to John Tofi who had 16 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in this game for Okapi Aalstar and Pankracije Barac (196-G-81, agency: Court Side) who scored 23 points and had 2 steals for BCMU Pitesti.

With a record of 2 wins after 2 games played, Okapi Aalstar takes the lead in Group E. Belfius Mons Hainaut defeated Paris Levallois after overtime (84-86) in the other game of the group this week.

Score evolution: 25-14, 50-34, 79-54 and 99-68.
Best scorers:
Okapi: A. Steinbach 5, D. Raivio 14, J. Tofi 16, L. Anderson 8, S. Clark 13, K. Baeyens 2, H. Van Langenhove 3, T. Dreesen 5, R. Thompson 15, N. Hartsock 10, C. Young 8.
