Division I Round 10: Castors Braine defeats Sint Kateline Waver in the closest game of the week - Dec 3, 2012

The most exciting game of round 10 in the Division I took place in Braine. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of higher ranked Sint Kateline Waver (6-4) to eighth ranked Castors Braine (4-6) 61-59 on Saturday evening. Castors Braine dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Sint Kateline Waver's 28. Forward Sarah Dochez (181-F-89) had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and New Caledonian forward Soana Lucet (186-87, college: Arizona) chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side the former international point guard Daphne Van Dessel (170-82) responded with 18 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Castors Braine maintains eighth position with 4-6 record. Sint Kateline Waver at the other side keeps the fourth place with four games lost. They share the position with Point Chaud and Willebroek. Castors Braine are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Houthalen (#12) on the road in the next round. Sint Kateline Waver will play against Basket Groot (#6) in Willebroek and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Division I top team - Belfius Namur (9-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed tenth ranked Tulikivi (2-8) in Deerlijk 74-50. Mali power forward Djenebou Sissoko (185-82, college: Union (TN)) notched 17 points and 6 rebounds to lead the effort and Laurence Van Malderen supported her with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Even 14 points and 7 rebounds by the former international forward Angcle Boucquey (175-81) did not help to save the game for Tulikivi. Tulikivi's coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Belfius Namur have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 9-1 record, which they share with Kangoeroes-B. Tulikivi at the other side dropped to the ninth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Blue Cats and Jeugd Gentson. Belfius Namur will play against Declercq Stortbeton (#3) in Waregem in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Tulikivi will play on the road against R.Spirou Monceau (#7) in Charleroi and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very close game took place in Ieper between Blue Cats and Jeugd Gentson. Eleventh ranked Blue Cats (2-8) got a very close home victory over 9th ranked Jeugd Gentson (2-8). Blue Cats managed to escape with a 1-point win 53-52 in the game for the ninth place. Sien Devliegher fired 8 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Heleen Adams produced 20 points and 4 assists for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Defending champion moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Tulikivi Deerlijk and Jeugd Gentson. Jeugd Gentson lost fifth consecutive game. Blue Cats will meet higher ranked Point Chaud (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Jeugd Gentson will play against the league's second-placed Kangoeroes-B. (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 10: bottom-ranked Houthalen lost to Willebroek on the opponent's court 77-81. Kangoeroes-B. managed to outperform Point Chaud in a home game 80-76. Spirou Monceau was rolled over Waregem on the road 63-43.


Blue Cats - Jeugd Gentson 53-52

A very close game took place in Ieper between Blue Cats and Jeugd Gentson. Eleventh ranked Blue Cats (2-8) got a very close home victory over 9th ranked Jeugd Gentson (2-8). Blue Cats managed to escape with a 1-point win 53-52 in the game for the ninth place. International Sien Devliegher (175-93) fired 8 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Bulgarian center Stefka Miteva (190-89) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Heleen Adams (173-94) produced 20 points and 4 assists and forward Lynn Delvaux (182-93) added 17 points respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Defending champion moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Tulikivi Deerlijk and Jeugd Gentson. Jeugd Gentson lost fifth consecutive game. Blue Cats will meet higher ranked Point Chaud (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Jeugd Gentson will play against the league's second-placed Kangoeroes-B. Willebroek - Houthalen 81-77

Very expected game in Willebroek where 12th ranked Houthalen (1-9) was defeated by sixth ranked Basket Groot (6-4) 81-77 on Sunday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Basket Groot forced 19 Houthalen turnovers. Strangely Houthalen outrebounded Basket Groot 47-30 including a 35-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Forward Inge Op De Beeck (177-85) fired 14 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Forward Ellen Lauwers (182-87) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds. Four Basket Groot players scored in double figures. The former international forward Annelies Blommaers (176-83) produced 21 points and 7 rebounds (made all of her seven free throws) and center Eva Vandistel (186-83) added 4 points and 16 rebounds respectively for lost side. Basket Groot moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Sint Katelijne and Point Chaud. Houthalen lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with nine games lost. Basket Groot will meet Sint Kateline Waver (#4) in the next round. Houthalen will play against Castors Braine (#8).

International Sofie Hendrickx (187-86) fired a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. The former international center Dana Boonen (195-79, college: Rutgers) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds. Four Kangoeroes-B. players scored in double figures. International point guard Noemie Mayombo (170-91, agency: LBM Management) produced 23 points, 7 assists and 5 steals and American center Erica Davis (191-85, college: Yale, agency: LBM Management) added 16 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Kangoeroes-B. have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Belfius Namur. Loser Point Chaud dropped to the fourth place with four games lost. They share the position with Sint Katelijne and Willebroek.
