Top ranked Okapi Aalstar (6-2) recorded its second loss on the court of fourth ranked Spirou Charleroi on Friday night. Visitors were rolled over by Spirou Charleroi 102-71. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Okapi Aalstar. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 11-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 102-71. Spirou Charleroi had a 30-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Okapi Aalstar's players. 26 personal fouls committed by Okapi Aalstar helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was swingman Matt Walsh (197-82, college: Florida) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Derrick Allen (203-80, college: Mississippi, agency: Pro One Sports) chipped in 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Guard Larry Anderson (195-89, college: Long Beach St.) produced 12 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Spirou Charleroi (5-3) moved-up to second place, which they share with M.Hainaut. Okapi Aalstar at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. Spirou Charleroi is looking forward to face bottom-ranked VOO Verviers-Pepinster (#8) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Okapi Aalstar will play against Antwerp Giants (#6) and is hoping to win this game.

Defending champion Base Oostende dropped to the fourth place with four games lost. They share the position with Liege. VOO Verviers-Pepinster will play against higher ranked Spirou Charleroi (#3) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Base Oostende will play against Liege Basket in Liege and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Liege Basket (4-4) against seventh ranked Leuven Bears (3-5) on Thursday night. Host Liege Basket was defeated by Leuven Bears in Liege 85-75. Worth to mention a great performance of Niels Marnegrave who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Ioannis Iarochevitch responded with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Leuven Bears moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Antwerp. Loser Liege Basket dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. They share it with Oostende. Leuven Bears will meet at home league's second-placed Belfius Mons-Hainaut in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Liege Basket will play against Base Oostende and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 8 Antwerp was defeated by M.Hainaut in Quaregnon 66-57.


M.Hainaut - Antwerp 66-57

There was no surprise in Quaregnon where 6th ranked Antwerp Giants (3-5) were defeated by fourth ranked Belfius Mons-Hainaut (5-3) 66-57 on Saturday. The game without a history. Belfius Mons-Hainaut led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Quincy Taylor (196-82, college: UAB) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 8 rebounds and the former international point guard Guy Muya (190-83, agency: TSS Management) who added 11 points and 6 assists during the contest. Four Belfius Mons-Hainaut players scored in double figures. The former international guard Roel Moors (190-78) responded with 18 points and 5 rebounds and American forward Gregg Thondique (201-87, college: Virginia Union, agency: FCM) scored 9 points and 11 rebounds. Belfius Mons-Hainaut moved-up to second place, which they share with Spirou. Loser Antwerp Giants keep the sixth position with five games lost. They share it with Leuven. Belfius Mons-Hainaut will meet Leuven Bears (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Antwerp Giants will play against the league's leader Okapi Aalstar and hope to secure a win.
