Division I Round 11: Leader Belfius Namur loses to Declercq Stortbeton - Dec 10, 2012

Division I is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 11 rounds left.

Top ranked Belfius Namur (9-2) recorded its second loss at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were edged by third ranked Declercq Stortbeton (9-2) 63-60. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Belfius Namur. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Strangely Belfius Namur outrebounded Declercq Stortbeton 44-32 including 17 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was American forward Melissa Dennett (188-F-83, college: Colorado St.) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds. Serbian forward Maja Vucurovic (188-91) chipped in 21 points. Mali power forward Djenebou Sissoko (185-82, college: Union (TN)) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 22 rebounds for the hosts. Declercq Stortbeton have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with defeated Belfius Namur. Declercq Stortbeton is looking forward to face R.Spirou Monceau (#7) in Charleroi in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Belfius Namur will play at home against Tulikivi (#9) in Deerlijk and is hoping to win this game.
Leader Kangoeroes-B. delivered the tenth victory. This time they crushed 9th ranked Jeugd Gentson (2-9) 79-35. Canadian-Dutch Janelle Bekkering (181-88, college: Gonzaga) orchestrated the victory by scoring 13 points and 6 rebounds. Sofie Hendrickx contributed with 14 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. Heleen Adams (173-94) answered with 10 points for Jeugd Gentson. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Kangoeroes-B. (10-1) have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain first place. Jeugd Gentson lost sixth consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth position with nine games lost. They share it with Blue Cats. Kangoeroes-B. will play against Point Chaud (#5) in Sprimont in the next round. Jeugd Gentson will play at home against Blue Cats (#10) in Ieper and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very close game took place in Charleroi between Tulikivi and R.Spirou Monceau. Ninth ranked Tulikivi (3-8) got a very close victory on the road over 7th ranked R.Spirou Monceau (5-6). Tulikivi managed to escape with a 2-point win 57-55 on Sunday evening. Tulikivi maintains ninth place with 3-8 record. R.Spirou Monceau lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with Castors Braine. Tulikivi will meet higher ranked Belfius Namur (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. R.Spirou Monceau will play against the league's second-placed Declercq Stortbeton (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.

Other games of round 11 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Willebroek were crushed by Sint Katelijne in a road game 91-63. Bottom-ranked Houthalen was beaten by Castors Braine at home 70-79. Blue Cats lost to Point Chaud on the opponent's court 64-82.


Spirou Monceau - Tulikivi Deerlijk 55-57

A very close game took place in Charleroi between Tulikivi and R.Spirou Monceau. Ninth ranked Tulikivi (3-8) got a very close victory on the road over 7th ranked R.Spirou Monceau (5-6). Tulikivi managed to escape with a 2-point win 57-55 on Sunday evening. Tulikivi maintains ninth place with 3-8 record. R.Spirou Monceau lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with Castors Braine. Tulikivi will meet higher ranked Belfius Namur (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sint Katelijne - Willebroek 91-63

Everything could happen in Sint Katelijne at the game between two tied teams. Both fifth ranked Sint Kateline Waver and 6th ranked Basket Groot had identical 6-4 record. This time Sint Kateline Waver used a home court advantage and crushed the opponent from Willebroek 91-63 on Sunday night. Sint Kateline Waver made 23-of-29 free shots (79.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Basket Groot turnovers and outrebounded them 58-28 including a 20-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for the former international point guard Daphne Van Dessel (170-82) who led her team to a victory scoring 18 points and 5 rebounds. point guard Hind Ben Abdelkader (170-95) helped adding 18 points. Forward Ellen Lauwers (182-87) responded with 12 points and 6 rebounds and forward Ines Beaurang (182-89) scored 11 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sint Kateline Waver (7-4) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Point Chaud. Basket Groot at the other side keeps the sixth position with five games lost. Sint Kateline Waver will meet at home Castors Braine (#8) in the next round. Basket Groot will play against Houthalen and hope to secure a win.

No shocking result in a game when eighth ranked Castors Braine (5-6) defeated on the road bottom-ranked Houthalen (1-10) 79-70 on Sunday. Castors Braine forced 26 Houthalen turnovers. It was a great evening for American guard Mia Fisher (175-82, college: UCSB) who led her team to a victory scoring 19 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. New Caledonian forward Soana Lucet (186-87, college: Arizona) helped adding 15 points and 7 rebounds. Four Castors Braine players scored in double figures. Castors Braine's coach Jean Luc Cornia used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international forward Annelies Blommaers (176-83) responded with 14 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and the former international point guard Marjorie Carpreaux (165-87, agency: LBM Management) scored 14 points and 4 assists. Castors Braine moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Spirou Monceau. Houthalen lost their seventh game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with ten games lost. Point Chaud outrebounded Blue Cats 36-18 including a 33-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for international point guard Noemie Mayombo (170-91, agency: LBM Management) who led her team to a victory scoring 24 points and 6 assists. American center Erica Davis (191-85, college: Yale, agency: LBM Management) helped adding 11 points and 8 rebounds. Four Point Chaud players scored in double figures.
