Essor Charleroi (Spirou B) vs. BasKet Tongeren: 83-82
In front of a very sparse attendance on Sunday morning, the young Spirou talents won their second game of the season. Visiting team's forward Peter Pipeleers (202-F/C-80) was called a fourth foul in the third quarter. Despite last efforts by Karim Doukmani (178-G-83) who converted several three-point attempts for BasKet Tongeren in the last minutes of the game, Essor finished on top. Essor Charleroi won the game after hitting one of the two free-throws earned after a last personal foul by BasKet Tongeren's Jean Delva (197-F/G-87) on the buzzer. It was also announced last weekend that Boris Penninck (202-C-88) would stay in Charleroi for the rest of the season and, contrarily to what the Belgian media had told in the last few weeks, will eventually not play for the Leuven Bears. Score evolution: 23-20, 43-44, 62-59 and 83-82.
Gembo BBC vs. Belfius Mons Hainaut II: 95-77
The young visitors of Belfius Mons Hainaut II gave the 2012 Belgian Division champions of Gembo BBC a hard time in the first half. Several three-pointers were hit by both teams in the second quarter. The young Foxes of Mons Hainaut, led by Lorenzo Giancaterino (190-F/G-90), stayed close and offered a very good tempo in the first 20 minutes of the game. Gembo's Domien Loubry (186-G-85) and his mates came back with better intentions after the break. Gembo played quick and ended fastbreak situations with easy baskets to take a much larger lead after 30 minutes: 72-61. Gembo managed very well in the last period and, after a few spectacular plays, finally deserved the win. See free highlights on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggjujy5q3_8&list=UUoSEPiDqNhOjhQW7eAC-isQ&index=1. Score at the half: 24-19, 43-42, 72-61 and 95-77.
Cuva Houthalen vs. CEP Fleurus: 97-68
Special mention to Cuva's Belgian talent Wietse Jacobs (194-F-91) who was particularly efficient from shooting range this weekend. Cuva of coach Brian Lynch never gave a chance to the opponents who could not reiterate their great performance of last Tuesday (against Gembo). Even the electricity cut at half-time was not of any help for CEP Fleurus (the second half had to be played on another court). CEP F will travel to Boom on December 22nd. Cuva will face BasKet Tongeren in a Limburg derby on December 16th. Score evolution: 29-10, 49-30, 74-47 and 97-68. Best scorers: Cuva: N/A CEP F: A. Behaderovic 1, A. Marion 8, K. Jonniaux 4, C. Manzanza 4, L. Pourtoit 17, A. Chada 4, T. Bauwens 7, L. Hazard 12, S. Muric 5, C. Ilongo 6.
Sint-Niklase Condors vs. BBC Haantjes Oudenaarde: 90-72
No doubt about it, Joao-Pedro De Decker (190-F-83) was the Division II MVP of the Week this time! The Condors hit several crucial three-pointers in the first half but the Haantjes' defense was rather good. It got worse in the second half for the visitors and the zone defense they played could not stop Condors De Decker and Bjorn De Beukeleer (185-G/F-89) who had then some clutch plays. The Condors of coach Steve Ibens took a larger lead in the third quarter and never allowed BBC Haantjes Oudenaarde to come back in the game. Score evolution: 25-23, 46-44, 75-58 and 90-72. Best scorers: Condors: B. De Beukeleer 22, E. Lasisi 18, J.-P. De Decker 34, B. Bogaert 2, S. Vermeulen 4, D. Bovoy 4, N. Maris 3, J. Gerlo 3. Haantjes: G. Delepeleire 4, J. Bourdeaux 5, J. Salumu 10, G. Mestdag 16, M. Linskens 13, L. Lhote 9, M. Brysse 15.
Sint-Jan Antwerp vs. Excelsior Brussels: 78-72
It was a rather close game all the way and the Brussels' team was even ahead in the third quarter (when the scoreboard showed 40-44). Nevertheless, the big men of Sint-Jan and the poor free-throw percentage (11/23) of Excelsior made the difference. Sint-Jan's player Leroy Anthonis (206-C-90) had an excellent game with impressive stats: 7/11 in field goals, 3/4 from the free-throw line, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks in only 15 minutes of play last Saturday night. Score evolution: 21-19, 38-35, 56-49 and 78-72. Best scorers: Sint-Jan: B. Hartshorne 6, B. Raes 7, N. El Khounchar 4, A. Druwez 15, S. Geukens 16, L. Anthonis 17, V. Kesteloot 2, P. Smulders 4, M. Brown 7. Excelsior: X. Collette 8, N. Verrept 7, M. Depuydt 6, G. De Pooter 18, L. Maesfrancx 4, J. De Schepper 11, R. Oveneke 14, S. Semijejero 4.
Kangoeroes Boom vs. Port of Antwerp Giants II: 85-77
Short win by 8 points but no surprise in this Antwerp derby. The Kangoeroes of coach Tom Poppe remain the only leaders in Division II with a record of 10 wins and 3 losses so far. Due to the fact that Essor Charleroi defeated BasKet Tongeren last Sunday, the young Giants of coach Luc Smout are currently ranked last in Division II with a record of 1 win and 12 losses.
Point Chaud Sprimont vs. Gent Dragons has been postponed due to bad weather conditions.

27-year old forward Bart Maesen (198-F-89) had a very impressive game in the last round for Houthalen and receives a Eurobasket.com Top Division I Player of the Week award for round 25. He had the game-high 19 points adding six rebounds and six assists for Houthalen in his team's victory, helping them to beat Giants B (#8, 11-15) 72-62. Houthalen maintains the 5th position in Belgian Top Division I. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Houthalen will need more victories to improve their 15-10 record. In the team's last game Maesen had a remarkable 57.1% from 2-point range. He has many years of experience at Houthalen, through which he has constantly improved. Maesen has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (9th best: 15.7ppg), assists (7th best: 3.4apg) and averages solid 60.2% FGP.
Second best performed player last round was Francois Lhoest (196-F/C-85) of Ninane. He is former international forward in his 9th season at Ninane. In the last game Lhoest recorded impressive double-double of 21 points and 16 rebounds. Bad luck as Ninane lost that game 82-99 to slightly higher-ranked Giants B (#8, 11-15). Ninane managed to keep the same 9th spot in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 10-14 record. Lhoest is one of the most experienced players at Ninane and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.0ppg (#1). His other stats are also decent: 13.7rpg and 3.6apg.
Third place about best performers goes to center Pieter De Cock (198-C-93) of Ekeren (#13). De Cock scored 23 points and grabbed five rebounds. Despite De Cock's great performance Ekeren lost 84-92 to the higher-ranked Royal Brussels (#7, 11-13). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Ekeren can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 6-17 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for De Cock he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. De Cock has a very solid season. In 22 games in Belgium he scored 11.7ppg. He also has 5.5rpg and FGP: 54.0%.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Alexander Schepens (191-G/F-93) of Ieper - 28 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists 5. Bert Van Den Broek (201-C-92) of Giants B - 19 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists 6. Gilles Dierickx (213-C-92) of Ieper - 25 points and 15 rebounds 7. The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
