Ethias League round 9 caused change at the leadership position. Third defeat of league's leader Okapi Aalstar (6-3) against sixth ranked Antwerp Giants (4-5) 83-72 was the most important game of the last round. Okapi Aalstar was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Antwerp Giants made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 4 passes made by Okapi Aalstar's players. American players dominated the game. It was a good game for point guard Timothy Black (178-81, college: Barton, NC, agency: Limelight Hoops) who led his team to a victory with 23 points and 9 assists. point guard Bryan Hopkins (183-83, college: SMU) contributed with 14 points for the winners. Guard Ryan Thompson (198-89, college: Rider) answered with 19 points and 6 rebounds for Okapi Aalstar. Antwerp Giants moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Liege. Okapi Aalstar at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by M.Hainaut who have the same record. Okapi Aalstar will play next round against Leuven Bears trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Antwerp Giants will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked VOO Verviers-Pepinster on the road.
Important game to mention about took place in Oostende. Fifth ranked Base Oostende (5-4) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 4th placed Liege Basket (4-5) 86-85 in the game for the fourth place. American Wesley Wilkinson (207-84, college: Nebraska) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and Mario Stojic chipped in 22 points and 5 rebounds. The best for the losing side was international forward Wen Boss Mukubu (198-83, college: UAB, agency: SportsTalent) with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds. Liege Basket's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place. Liege Basket at the other side dropped to the fifth position with five games lost. They share it with Antwerp. Base Oostende will play against higher ranked Spirou Charleroi (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Liege Basket will play against the league's leader Belfius Mons-Hainaut in Quaregnon and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Belfius Mons-Hainaut will meet at home Liege Basket (#5) in the next round. Leuven Bears will play against the league's second-placed Okapi Aalstar and hope to secure a win.



Leuven - M.Hainaut 76-90

The game in Leuven was also quite interesting. Second ranked Belfius Mons-Hainaut (6-3) played at the court of 7th ranked Leuven Bears (3-6). Belfius Mons-Hainaut defeated Leuven Bears 90-76 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Leuven Bears. The game was mostly controlled by Belfius Mons-Hainaut. Leuven Bears managed to win third quarter 20-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Belfius Mons-Hainaut shot 62.3 percent from the field. Belfius Mons-Hainaut had a 25-14 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard Quincy Taylor (196-82, college: UAB) nailed 26 points and 6 assists for the winning side and his fellow American import forward Josh Bostic (196-87, college: Findlay, OH) accounted for 23 points and 5 steals. Belfius Mons-Hainaut's coach Yves Defraigne used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Naturalized American forward Ian Hanavan (202-80, college: Evansville, agency: Interperformances) came up with 19 points and 6 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and international point guard Niels Marnegrave (191-87) added 17 points and 4 assists respectively for Leuven Bears in the defeat. Four Leuven Bears players scored in double figures. Belfius Mons-Hainaut have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Aalstar. Oostende - Liege 86-85

Important game to mention about took place in Oostende. Fifth ranked Base Oostende (5-4) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 4th placed Liege Basket (4-5) 86-85 in the game for the fourth place. But then Base Oostende had a 20-18 second period charge getting the lead and Liege Basket was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 85-86.
