Excelsior Brussels vs. BBC Haantjes Oudenaarde: 87-76
At the Sporthal in Neder-over-Hembeek, the Brussels' team ended the first quarter in a poor manner. After 10-10 on the scoreboard, BBC Oudenaarde made a first break (16-25 after 10 minutes). The Haantjes of veteran player Joeri Bourdeaux (190-F/G-78) and experienced center Mikhail Linskens (213-C-87, agency: R.H.Consultancy, college: Wyoming) were still in front at the half: 39-44. Nevertheless, Excelsior had played much better in the second quarter, especially in defense. The visitors coached by Sam Verstraete were never behind and, even at 55-55, kept playing well. The Haantjes with a rather efficient Jean Salumu (193-F-90) in offense were leading by 2 points after 30 minutes in this game. Thanks to a great presence by Randy Oveneke (201-F-86) and Sam Semijejero (195-PF-77) at the rebound as well as the hard-working players Maxime De Puydt (192-F-92), Xavier Collette (185-PG-85, agency: LBM Management), Gregory De Pooter (196-F-84) and Jeroen Van Haevermaet (192-SG-86), Excelsior of coach Serge Crevecoeur was suddenly able to play quicker. This weekend, a new Antwerp derby was held at the Arenahal in Deurne: Sint-Jan hosted the Giants II. Sint-Jan's scorer Senne Geukens (190-G-83) was well present but sick. Vinnie Haerbos (180-PG-90), injured (foot), was missing for Sint-Jan. Kangoeroes Boom vs. Essor Charleroi (Spirou B): 86-58
This game was played at the Sportcomplex De Schalk in Boom last Saturday evening. If they had played at the same rhythm all the way during 40 minutes, the Kabo team of coach Tom Poppe could have scored over 100 points last weekend. French player of Essor Charleroi Yann Siegwarth (184-PG-93) got injured in the second half of the game. To be mentioned: young Serbian talent Nikola Jankovic (205-PF-94) of Essor/Spirou Charleroi is listed among the 10 candidates for FIBA Europe Young Men's Player of the Year 2013. You can vote for him or any other candidate via http://www.fibaeurope.com/cid_xomKo3xWHM2Kq1C8NQLzi2.html. Tom Poppe also made the choice to let some young Kangoeroes have some playing time last Saturday. This led to some interesting performances in offense by Belgian talents Matthias Bessems (191-F-91) and Mathias Crab. Also to be noted: Ethias League's team Belgacom Spirou Charleroi still has Jason Fontenet (178-PG-82, college: Oregon St.) on tryout. Fontenet only played in two Eurocup games for Charleroi averaging 11.5 ppg and 4.5 rpg this season.
