The most exciting game of round 11 in the Ethias League took place in Liege. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 8th ranked VOO Verviers-Pepinster (2-8) to sixth ranked Liege Basket (5-6) 78-76 on Sunday evening. The hosts trailed by 9 points after three quarters before their 26-15 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Liege Basket made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was international forward Wen Boss Mukubu (198-83, college: UAB, agency: SportsTalent) who scored 24 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. American power forward Gary Ware (205-83, college: Purdue, agency: TSS Management) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. American point guard Jerime Anderson (187-89, college: UCLA) produced 19 points and 5 assists for the guests. Liege Basket maintains sixth place with 5-6 record. VOO Verviers-Pepinster at the other side stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Liege Basket are looking forward to face league's second-placed Okapi Aalstar on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. VOO Verviers-Pepinster will play against Leuven Bears (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

American guard Derek Raivio (190-84, college: Gonzaga) answered with 22 points for Okapi Aalstar. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Belfius Mons-Hainaut have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 8-3 record. Okapi Aalstar at the other side keeps the second position with four games lost. They share it with Oostende. Belfius Mons-Hainaut will play against Spirou Charleroi (#5) on the road in the next round. Okapi Aalstar will play against Liege Basket in Liege and hopes to get back on the winning track.
The game in Leuven was also quite interesting. Third ranked Base Oostende (7-4) played at the court of 7th ranked Leuven Bears (3-8). Base Oostende defeated Leuven Bears 84-73 on Saturday. It was a great evening for Brent Wright who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points and 9 rebounds. Niels Marnegrave responded with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Leuven Bears' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for Base Oostende. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Aalstar. Leuven Bears lost their third game in a row. They keep the seventh position with eight games lost. Base Oostende will meet at home Antwerp Giants (#4) in the next round. Leuven Bears will play against VOO Verviers-Pepinster and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Antwerp was also worth to mention about. 4th placed Spirou Charleroi (5-5) played at the court of fifth ranked Antwerp Giants (6-5). Antwerp Giants did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 77-58. It was an exceptional evening for Timothy Black who led the winners and scored 13 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. The victory was the third consecutive win for Antwerp Giants. They moved-up to fourth place. Spirou Charleroi at the other side dropped to the fifth position with five games lost. Antwerp Giants' next round opponent will be higher ranked Base Oostende (#3) on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Spirou Charleroi will play against the league's leader Belfius Mons-Hainaut in Quaregnon.



Liege - Verviers-Pep. 78-76

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Quaregnon. First ranked Belfius Mons-Hainaut faced second-ranked Okapi Aalstar. Host Belfius Mons-Hainaut (8-3) smashed guests from Aalst (7-4) 96-73. It was a key game for the top position in the league. It looked good early as Okapi Aalstar took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Belfius Mons-Hainaut had a 18-11 second period charge getting the lead and Okapi Aalstar was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 73-96. Belfius Mons-Hainaut shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. American forward Josh Bostic (196-87, college: Findlay, OH) orchestrated the victory by scoring 28 points. His fellow American import Wesley Wilkinson (207-84, college: Nebraska) helped adding 18 points and 8 rebounds. International point guard Niels Marnegrave (191-87) responded with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists and American point guard Gerald Robinson (185-89, college: Georgia) scored 20 points. Antwerp Giants did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 77-58. Spirou Charleroi was ahead by 1 point at the halftime before a 43-23 second half run of Antwerp Giants. They made 16-of-20 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Timothy Black (178-81, college: Barton, NC, agency: Limelight Hoops) who led the winners and scored 13 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Naturalized American forward Ralph Biggs (199-76, college: Towson, agency: Court Side) accounted for 17 points for the winning side. Five Antwerp Giants players scored in double figures.
