Djenebou
Sissoko
The biggest surprise of round 13 in Division I was guest Belfius Namur's (11-2) easy road victory over their biggest opponent Declercq Stortbeton (10-3) 77-54 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Declercq Stortbeton. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Belfius Namur forced 21 Declercq Stortbeton turnovers and outrebounded them 40-29 including 29 on the defensive glass. Mali power forward Djenebou Sissoko (185-82, college: Union (TN)) fired a double-double by scoring 22 points and 18 rebounds for the winners. American swingman Julie Wojta (183-89, college: Wisc.-Green Bay, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 20 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. American forward Melissa Dennett (188-83, college: Colorado St.) produced 21 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Belfius Namur moved-up to second place. Declercq Stortbeton at the other side dropped to the third position with three games lost. Belfius Namur are looking forward to face R.Spirou Monceau (#8) in Charleroi in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Declercq Stortbeton will play on the road against Houthalen (#12) and is hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Willebroek. Fourth ranked Sint Kateline Waver (8-5) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 6th ranked Basket Groot (6-7) 76-74 on Sunday evening. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Hind Ben Abdelkader (170-95) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 8 rebounds. Sara Leemans contributed with 21 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Sint Kateline Waver's coach Arvid Diels allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Forward Inge Op De Beeck (177-85) answered with 19 points and 5 rebounds for Basket Groot. Sint Kateline Waver maintains fourth place with 8-5 record, which they share with Point Chaud. At the losing side Anne-Sophie De Bondt responded with 16 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kangoeroes-B. (12-1) have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. They maintain first place. Loser Jeugd Gentson dropped to the tenth position with ten games lost.
