Ethias League round 12 caused change at the leadership position. Fourth defeat of league's leader Belfius Mons-Hainaut (8-4) against fifth ranked Spirou Charleroi (6-5) 76-70 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Belfius Mons-Hainaut. Belfius Mons-Hainaut trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 19-14 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 70-76 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Belfius Mons-Hainaut 40-25 including 31 on the defensive glass. 26 personal fouls committed by Belfius Mons-Hainaut helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American players dominated the game. It was a good game for swingman Matt Walsh (197-82, college: Florida) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 19 rebounds and 4 assists. point guard Jerome Randle (178-87, college: California) contributed with 14 points and 7 assists for the winners. Forward Josh Bostic (196-87, college: Findlay, OH) replied with 18 points for Belfius Mons-Hainaut. Belfius Mons-Hainaut's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Spirou Charleroi moved-up to fourth place. Belfius Mons-Hainaut at the other side still keeps top position with four games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Oostende who have the same record. Belfius Mons-Hainaut will play next round against league's leader Base Oostende trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Spirou Charleroi will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Liege Basket in Liege.

Worth to mention a great performance of Croatian-German swingman Mario Stojic (198-80, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) and Matt Lojeski who added 13 points during the contest. The best for the losing side was American forward Gregg Thondique (201-87, college: Virginia Union, agency: FCM) with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Base Oostende have a solid four-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with M.Hainaut. Antwerp Giants at the other side dropped to the fifth place with six games lost. They share the position with Liege. Antwerp Giants will play next round against Leuven Bears trying to get back on the winning streak. Base Oostende will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Belfius Mons-Hainaut at Quaregnon.
A very close game took place in Verviers between VOO Verviers-Pepinster and Leuven Bears. Eighth ranked VOO Verviers-Pepinster (3-8) got a very close home victory over 7th ranked Leuven Bears (3-9). VOO Verviers-Pepinster managed to escape with a 2-point win 79-77 in the fight for the seventh place. The winners were led by Chris Ferguson who had that evening a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Even 17 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists by Niels Marnegrave did not help to save the game for Leuven Bears. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. VOO Verviers-Pepinster moved-up to seventh place. Leuven Bears lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with nine games lost. VOO Verviers-Pepinster will meet higher ranked Okapi Aalstar (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Leuven Bears will play against Antwerp Giants (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Aalstar - Liege 70-75

Very important is a home loss of second ranked Okapi Aalstar (7-5) against sixth ranked Liege Basket (6-6) on Friday night. Host Okapi Aalstar was defeated by Liege Basket in a tough game in Aalst 70-75. The guests were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. The best player for the winners was American swingman B.J. Monteiro (195-90, college: Duquesne, agency: Two Points) who scored 16 points. International forward Wen Boss Mukubu (198-83, college: UAB, agency: SportsTalent) chipped in 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Liege Basket players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Derek Raivio (190-84, college: Gonzaga) who recorded 24 points and his fellow American import guard Larry Anderson (195-89, college: Long Beach St.) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Liege Basket moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Antwerp. Okapi Aalstar at the other side dropped to the third position with five games lost. Liege Basket's next round opponent will be higher ranked Spirou Charleroi (#4) at home and it may be quite challenging game. Okapi Aalstar will play against VOO Verviers-Pepinster.
