Here is the weekly review of the top performing Belgian players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is an international forward Axel Hervelle (205-83, currently plays in Spain). He led Gescrap BB to a victory against the 14th-ranked CB Canarias (6-11) 78-70 in the Spanish ACB in Sunday night's game. Hervelle scored 13 points, grabbed 8 boards, passed 3 assists and added 4 steals in 31 minutes on the court. Gescrap Bizkaia Bilbao Basket (11-6) is placed fifth in the ACB. This year Hervelle averages: 8.7ppg, 4.5rpg, 1.9apg, 2FGP: 61.0%(61-100), 3FGP: 12.5% and FT: 79.3% in the 17 games he played so far. He is currently a member of the Belgian senior national team.

Jonathan Tabu

   #2. Second place goes to an international point guard Jonathan Tabu (190-85, currently plays in Italy). Tabu contributed to an easy victory against the 11th-ranked SAIE3 BO (6-9) 79-64 in the Italian SerieA last Sunday. He scored 11 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 4 assists. Mapooro Cantu (11-4) is placed fourth in the SerieA. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Tabu has relatively good stats this season: 10.5ppg, 4.3rpg, 3.9apg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 48.1%, 3FGP: 45.0% and FT: 88.9%. He is in the roster of the Belgian senior national team.

   #3. The Belgian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Sam Van Rossom (188-86, currently plays in Spain), who plays in the Spanish ACB. Van Rossom could not help CAI Zaragoza (10-7) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his good performance CAI Zaragoza was defeated in an overtime 93-88 on the road by the much lower-ranked Blancos de Rueda (#13). Van Rossom scored 12 points and added 5 assists. Van Rossom's overall stats this season are: 9.4ppg, 3.7rpg, 3.1apg, 1.2spg, 2FGP: 56.9%(29-51), 3FGP: 45.0% and FT: 84.0%. He is also a member of the Belgian senior national team.

   #4. Center Aleksander Lichodzijewski (202-84, currently plays in Poland) led Polpharma to a victory over the closely-ranked AZS Koszalin (9-7) crushing them 96-73 in the Polish TBL last Saturday. Lichodzijewski was MVP of the game. He recorded 18 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 24 minutes. SKS Polpharma-Pakmet Starogard Gd. (7-9) is placed eighth in the TBL. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. It's Lichodzijewski's first season with the team. This year Lichodzijewski's overall stats are: 8.0ppg and 4.3rpg in the 12 games. He has a dual citizenship: Belgian and Polish. Lichodzijewski used to play for the Belgian national team back in 2008.

   #5. Former U20 international swingman Gael Hulsen (193-90, agency: LBM Management, currently plays in United Kingdom) was not able to help the league outsider Liverpool Mersey Tigers (0-17) in their game against Sheffield One Health Sharks (7-10) in the British BBL. Hulsen recorded 9 points and added 5 assists in 27 minutes. But the bottom-ranked Liverpool Mersey Tigers was crushed 99-64 in Sheffield by the higher-ranked (#7) One Health Sharks. So far Liverpool Mersey Tigers lost all seventeen games in the Regular Season. This year Hulsen has relatively solid stats: 11.4ppg, 1.9rpg and 2.9apg in the 16 games. He used to play for the Belgian U20 national team four years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Belgian passport but never been selected to any of Belgian national teams:

   #1. Tyler Haws (196-G, currently plays college basketball in the States) led BYU to an easy victory against the Santa Clara University (1-3) 82-64 in the NCAA on Saturday night. Haws scored 24 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 35 minutes. The Brigham Young University has 4-0 conference record this season. So far his team won all four games in the conference. It's Haws' fourth year with the team. This season he has relatively solid stats: 10.5ppg, 4.3rpg, 3.9apg and 1.3spg in the 15 games he played so far.

   #2. Experienced Ryan Hoover (187-PG-74, agency: SportsTalent, college: Notre Dame, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian Lega2 (second division) could not help Fileni BPA Jesi (5-9) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his good performance Fileni BPA Jesi was defeated 79-72 on the road by the higher-ranked AcegasAps TR (#7). Hoover was the second best scorer with 13 points. He also added 3 assists. This season Hoover has relatively solid stats: 11.9ppg, 4.0rpg, 3.1apg and 2.0spg. He is a naturalized American. Strangely Hoover has never played in Belgium.

   #3. Ronrico White (190-PG-92, currently studies in the States) led Chattanooga to a victory against the The Citadel (0-4) 70-65 in the NCAA in Thursday night's game. He recorded 11 points in 29 minutes. The Univ.of Tennessee - Chattanooga has 2-2 conference record this season. This year White has relatively solid stats: 11.9ppg, 4.0rpg, 3.1apg and 2.0spg in the 14 games. He is a naturalized American. Strangely White has never played in Belgium.

   #4. Ruphin Tshiabu Kayembe (200-F-92, currently plays in Slovenia) managed to help KK Maribor Messer to win against the league outsider Polzela (0-11) 95-86 in the Slovenian Telemach League last Saturday. He scored only 1 points. KK Maribor Messer (9-2) is placed first in the Telemach League. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Tshiabu Kayembe's total stats this season are: 0.5ppg and 2.0rpg. He has a dual citizenship: DR Congolese and Belgian.

   #5. best in steals. He has very reliable stats this season: 11.2ppg, 5.4rpg, 3.1apg and 2.6spg. Jones is another player who holds two passports: Belgian and Luxembourg.

   #6. Julien Rahier (193-G-83, currently plays in Switzerland) was not able to help Starwings in their game against Monthey in the Swiss LNA. He scored 5 points in 26 minutes. His team was crushed by 26 points 109-83. This year Rahier's total stats are: 9.3ppg, 1.5rpg and 2.3apg in the four games.

Brussels - Aalstar 75-66 Brussels held off Aalstar to force the decisive fifth game in the series. The game without a history. Basic-Fit Brussels led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. John Tofi extends deal with Aalstar - May 25, 2016

Aalstar and John Tofi(203-C/F-84, college: UTEP, agency: Pensack Sports) agreed on terms of contract renewal. The centre has penned a new two-year deal with the team. John Tofi tallied 15.7 points, 7.2 rebounds per game last season. John Tofi has been playing for Aalstar since 2012. Previously he had stints with Leuven and Pepinster.   [read more]

Vincent Kesteloot left Aalstar - May 25, 2016

21-year old domestic international forward Vincent Kesteloot (201-95, agency: Priority Sports) left Crelan Okapi Aalstar (Scooore League). In 32 games he had 8.5ppg and 2.6rpg this season. Kesteloot played there also last season. In 35 Scooore League games he recorded 3.5ppg and 1.4rpg. He helped them to end the regular season as a second best team in the league.
