Ann Wauters' double-double lands her Player of the Week award among Belgians playing currently abroad - Jan 21, 2013

We bring you last week's top performances from Belgians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an experienced former international center Ann Wauters (194-80, agency: Josep and Nicolas, currently plays in Turkey). She was the major contributor in Galatasaray's victory against the sixth-ranked Ceyhan Bld (7-7) 77-62 in the Turkish TKBL in Saturday night's game. Wauters had a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 13 rebounds in 23 minutes on the court. Galatasaray M.P. Istanbul (12-2) is placed second in the TKBL. It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row. It's Wauters' first season with the team. She has relatively good stats this year: 14.3ppg, 8.7rpg, 1.3apg, 2FGP: 56.5%(87-154) and FT: 74.3% in the 14 games she played so far. Wauters played for the Belgian senior national team three years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to former international guard Kathy Wambe (176-81, currently plays in Italy). She contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Parma (8-3) crushing them 84-62 in the Italian A1 last Sunday. Wambe scored 6 points, grabbed 8 boards, dished 10 assists and stole 3 balls. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Famila Wuber Schio (10-1) is placed first in the A1. It was her team's tenth consecutive victory in a row. Wambe is ranked first on the list of the best passers in the league. This season she averages: 6.5ppg, 4.0rpg, 4.0apg, 2.1spg, 2FGP: 38.9% and FT: 62.2%. Wambe played for the Belgian national team in 2010.

   #3. The Belgian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international swingman Anke De Mondt (175-79, currently plays in Poland). She led Wisla Can-Pak to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked BI SSA Gdynia (6-8) crushing them 83-59 in the Polish PLKK on Saturday night. De Mondt scored 15 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 28 minutes. TS Wisla Can-Pack Krakow (11-3) is placed third in the PLKK. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This year De Mondt has relatively solid stats: 11.2ppg, 4.2rpg, 2.9apg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 47.9%, 3FGP: 37.7% and FT: 92.9% in the 15 games. She is also a member of the Belgian senior national team.

   #4. Center Emma Meesseman (192-93, agency: LBM Management, currently plays in France), who plays in the French LFB could not help Villeneuve D'Ascq (6-11) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Meesseman's good performance Villeneuve D'Ascq was badly defeated 79-62 on the road by the leading Lattes Montpellier. She scored 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Meesseman has reliable stats this season: 12.0ppg, 6.3rpg and 1.8apg. She is also Belgian national team player.

   #5. International power forward Evelien Callens (188-84, currently plays in Czech Republic) contributed to a 1-point VS Praha's victory against the tenth-ranked Aldast Strakonice (5-14) 55-54 in the Czech Republic ZBL last Saturday. Callens recorded 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 21 minutes. VS Praha (10-8) is placed fifth in the ZBL. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This year Callens' overall stats are: 7.9ppg and 4.4rpg in the seven games. She plays currently for the Belgian national team.

Houthalen's fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after five consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as they edged much higher ranked Liege (3-3) 55-52 on Sunday. Houthalen forced 19 Liege turnovers. Royal Castors Braine (Top Division Women) agreed terms with experienced 35-year old Montenegrin international forward Milka Bjelica (193-83kg-81). She played last season at Istanbul Universitesi SK in Turkish KBSL. In 7 games she had 8.7ppg, 10.0rpg, 2.1apg and 2.0spg. Bjelica also played 6 games in Eurocup where she recorded 10.8ppg, 9.7rpg, 1.5apg and 1.7spg. The previous (14-15) season she played at Hatay in KBSL.
