Fantastic performance of Aleksandar Lazic as BIH defeats Macedonia - Jul 28, 2012

Aleksandar
Lazic
After the bitter defeat of BIH cadets against Hungary our cadets played against Macedonia.
Coach Firic decided to start with Garic, Bevanda, Gacic, Aleksandar Lazic (198-SG-96) and Smajlovic using Gacic as a SF despite he is a classical PG.
BIH started red hot with a 10-2 run in only 2:30 minutes mainly to forced turnover. Particularly Aleksandar Lazic who promoted to the key player of this team put up a great performance and dominated both boards. After the time out Macedonia seemed to have the solution for the aggresive defense and quickly catched up with Bosnia by connecting two three pointers of Macedonian star player Magadevski and Dvojakovski. Firic reacted with the entry of aggressive rebounder Beronja and Sesar who scored four consecutive points in the paint. However Magadevski kept Macedonia in the match cutting the margin to 40-34.

In the second half Firic returned Gacic in the game and Bosnia-H. established a comfortable 15 points lead (55-40). Firic wanted to give also a chance to the players usually coming from the bench but like several times before the bosnian bench is significantly weaker than the starting five. In only three minutes Macedonia reduced the margin to only six points 55-49 at the end of the third quarter.
In the last quarter Firic fielded his starting five that had some problems to contain Magadevski who brought his team to a only 4 point trail (65:61) 3:48 minutes to go but led by fantastic Aleksandar Lazic who ended up with 32 points and 12 rebounds BIH secured a comfortable 79-69 win.

BIH: Lazic (32pts, 12 rebounds, 1blk, 3 assists), Smajlovic (11pts, 3 rebs), Garic (10pts ( FG 3/10), 3 ass), Beronja (8pts (FG 4/12), 8rebs), Sesar (5pts, 4 rebs in 6 minutes), Aleksic (5pts ( FG 2/7), 5 rebs in 23min), Balic (13min, 4pts (FG 1/6), Gacic (29min, 2pts, FG 0/5)

What are the lessons to be learned. Gacic is a pure PG with great handles, smartness and court vision. Using him as a SG or SF deprives him of all his assets. Bosnia lost its rhythm when too many bench player cam in. The current roster justifies a 6 or 7 player rotation.

In the last match Bosnia-H. will face Israel.
