Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Bosnians who are currently playing abroad.


Matea Tavic

   #1. This week's number one is an international guard Matea Tavic (178-92, agency: Regeneracom Sports, currently plays in Slovenia). She led Ilrija to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams GVT Konjice (1-7) crushing them 98-64 in the Slovenian SKL in Saturday night's game. Tavic scored 14 points, had 5 rebounds and dished 6 assists (went 5 for 5 at the free throw line) in 29 minutes on the court. KED Panter Ilirija Ljubljana (5-3) is placed fourth in the SKL. Tavic is currently fifth on the league's list of top scorers with 16.1ppg. She also averaged so far 3.9rpg, 2.0apg, 2FGP: 49.1%, 3FGP: 18.6% and FT: 91.7%(33-36) in the seven games she played so far. Tavic played for the Bosnia and Herzegovina senior national team one years ago.

Amra Mehmedic

   #2. Second place goes to an international guard Amra Mehmedic (177-81, currently plays in Bulgaria). She led Haskovo 2012 to a victory over the closely-ranked Rilski Sportist (6-2) 79-62 in the Bulgarian NBL last Sunday. Mehmedic was MVP of the game. She recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and making 10 passes. Mehmedic also added 5 rebounds and 4 steals (was perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line). Haskovo 2012 (4-5) is placed fifth in the NBL. Mehmedic has individually a very good season with high stats. She averages: 16.0ppg, 5.0rpg, 9.0apg, 5.5spg, 3FGP: 45.5%. Mehmedic played for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team in 2011.

Dragana Svitlica

   #3. The Bosnia and Herzegovina player who performed third best last week abroad was an international center Dragana Svitlica (190-88, currently plays in Hungary), who plays in the Hungarian A Division. She could not help Atomeromu (9-2) in their last game. Despite Svitlica's very good performance the league leader Atomeromu lost 66-72 on the road to the lower-ranked (#3) ZTE NKK. She was the top scorer with 21 points. Svitlica also added 7 rebounds in 30 minutes. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Svitlica is ranked first on the list of the best blockers in the league with 1.4bpg. This year her other stats are: 11.0ppg, 5.4rpg, 2FGP: 49.6% and FT: 78.9% in the 14 games. Svitlica played for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team one years ago.

Ana Niksic
Ana Niksic
   #4. Forward Ana Niksic (181-91, currently plays in Serbia) managed to help Crvena Zvezda Beograd to win against the eighth-ranked Stara Pazova (4-7) crushing them 78-53 in the Serbian A League in Saturday night's game. She scored only 4 points, had 7 rebounds and dished 7 assists. Crvena Zvezda Beograd (10-1) is placed first in the A League. Niksic is ranked fifth on the list of the most steals in the league. She has very reliable stats this season: 11.2ppg, 5.3rpg, 3.0apg and 2.7spg. Niksic used to play for the Bosnia and Herzegovina U18 national team back in 2008.

   #5. Former international power forward Alma Kovacevic (186-83, currently plays in Bulgaria) is a teammate of previously mentioned Amra Mehmedic and both played together in the last Bulgarian NBL game. Kovacevic contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Rilski Sportist (6-2) 79-62. She had a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 13 rebounds. Kovacevic also added 3 assists and 4 blocks in 40 minutes. Kovacevic has relatively good stats this year: 12.0ppg, 15.0rpg, 1.5apg and 3.0bpg in the two games. She used to play for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team two years ago.

   #6. Guard Irena Vrancic (167-90, currently plays in Adriatic League), who plays in Serbia was not able to help Vozdovac (6-5) in their last game on Thursday. Despite Vrancic's good performance the sixth-placed Vozdovac was defeated 90-80 in Pecs by the higher-ranked PEAC-PECS (#3) in the group T of Adriatic League. She scored 12 points, had 6 boards, dished 5 assists and stole 6 balls. Vrancic is currently first on the league's list of best passers. This season she has very good stats: 11.6ppg, 3.2rpg, 4.7apg and 2.5spg. Vrancic is a former U18 international player as she played for the Bosnia and Herzegovina team four years ago.

Dzenita Novi

   #7. Former U18 international guard Dzenita Novi (180-93, currently plays in Slovenia), who plays in the Slovenian SKL was not able to secure a victory for one of league's weakest teams AJM Maribor (2-6) in their last game. Despite her very good performance AJM Maribor lost 61-75 on the opponent's court to the higher-ranked (#6) Domzale. Novi had a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 11 rebounds in 28 minutes. It was AJM Maribor's fourth consecutive loss in a row. It's Novi's fourth season with the team. She is ranked seventh on the list of the best rebounders in the league with 8.1rpg. Novi also averaged so far 10.5ppg and 1.1apg in the eight games. She used to play for the Bosnia and Herzegovina U18 national team two years ago.

Emina Demirovic

   #8. Center Emina Demirovic (186-85, currently plays in Romania), who plays in the Romanian Division A couldn't help Sp.Studentesc (5-8) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Demirovic's good performance Sp.Studentesc was defeated 60-53 at home by the higher-ranked Alexandria (#6). She was the top scorer with 14 points. Demirovic also added 7 rebounds. It's Demirovic's first season with the team. Demirovic is currently fourth on the league's list of best rebounders. She has very solid stats this season: 11.5ppg, 9.3rpg, 1.2apg and 1.4spg. Demirovic used to play for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team last year.

Vanja Milosevic

   #9. Former U18 international forward Vanja Milosevic (182-91, currently plays in Serbia) couldn't help one of league's weakest teams Srbobran Reahem (5-6) in their game against Vrbas Medela (5-6) in the Serbian A League. She cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. Milosevic scored only 2 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 22 minutes. Srbobran Reahem was crushed 77-55 in Vrbas by the higher-ranked (#6) Medela. This year Milosevic's overall stats are: 7.6ppg and 5.2rpg in the 11 games. She used to play for the Bosnia and Herzegovina U18 national team three years ago.

   #10. Guard Tamara Kapor (184-91, currently plays in Adriatic League) contributed to a Radivoj Korac's victory against the eighth-ranked Sloboda (3-8) 68-62 in the Adriatic League in Saturday night's game. Kapor scored only 2 points in 10 minutes. Radivoj Korac Beograd (9-2) is placed second in group T. It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row. This year Kapor's total stats are: 7.2ppg, 2.2rpg and 1.8apg in the 11 games. She is international player as one years ago she still played for the Bosnia and Herzegovina senior national team.


The list of other players, who all have Bosnia and Herzegovina passport but never been selected to any of Bosnia and Herzegovina national teams:

   #1. Selma Delibasic (193-C-80, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian A2 (12th division) could not help Calabria (3-7) in their last game. Despite her good performance Calabria (#10) lost 42-54 at home to the second-ranked T. La Spezia in the South group. Delibasic had a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting the same number of rebounds in 33 minutes. It was Calabria's third consecutive loss in a row. This year Delibasic's overall stats are: 9.8ppg, 9.5rpg and 1.2spg in the 10 games she played so far.

   #2. Aleksandra Begenisic (193-C-89, currently plays in Greece) was not able to help Aris (5-5) in their game against Athinaikos (9-1) in the Greek A1. She scored 7 points. Aris was badly defeated 71-51 on their home court in Thessaloniki by the second-ranked Athinaikos. Begenisic's overall stats this season are: 10.0ppg and 6.7rpg.

   #3. Antonela Anic (177-F-85, currently plays in Croatia) was not able to secure a victory for Studenac Omis (1-8) in their game against ZKK Split (4-5) in the Croatian A1. Anic scored 5 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Studenac Omis was defeated 82-77 on the road by the higher-ranked ZKK Split (#7). It was Studenac Omis' eighth consecutive loss in a row. Anic is currently sixth on the list of best rebounders. She has very solid stats this season: 10.7ppg, 7.8rpg, 1.6apg and 2.9spg.

   #4. Sedina Halimic (195-C-83, currently plays in Adriatic League) managed to help Vojvodina Nis Novi Sad to win against the ninth-ranked Athlete Celje (2-9) 77-59 in the Adriatic League last Saturday. Halimic scored only 2 points. Vojvodina Nis Novi Sad (7-4) is placed fourth in group T. It was her team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Halimic has averaged so far 2.8ppg and 3.4rpg.   



Jedinstvo Aida, the European Champion 1989 - 4 days ago
28 years ago, "Jedinstvo Aida" (Tuzla) won European Champions' Cup ( i.e. today's Euroleague). "Jedinstvo Aida" won Europe's most prestigious women's basketball trophy by beating "Primigi" Vicenza of Italy 74:70 (37:35) in the Champions' Cup final in Florence on March 22, 1989. It was a bitter defeat for Primigi, who had dominated European basketball by winning the Cup five times in a raw prior to defeat in 1989. Division I Round 17: Celik hands first defeat to Play Off - 4 days ago
Play Off (15-1) recorded its first loss in Zenica on Wednesday night. Visitors were edged by third ranked Celik (14-2) 90-89. It ended at the same time the 13-game winning streak of Play Off. Celik have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Newly promoted Celik maintains third place with 14-2 record behind leader Play Off.
