Ana Niksic's double-double lands her Player of the Week award among Bosnians playing currently abroad - Feb 11, 2013

Here is the weekly review of the top performing Bosnia and Herzegovina players, who play currently abroad.


Ana Niksic

   #1. This week's number one is former U18 international forward Ana Niksic (181-91, currently plays in Serbia). She led Crvena Zvezda to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked Vrbas Medela (9-10) crushing them 86-64 in the Serbian A League in Wednesday night's game. Niksic had a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting 11 rebounds. She also added 9 assists and 4 steals in 34 minutes on the court. Crvena Zvezda Beograd (18-1) is placed first in the A League. It was her team's tenth consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Niksic is currently third on the list of most steals with 2.6spg. She also averaged so far 11.4ppg, 6.8rpg, 3.2apg, 2FGP: 50.8%, 3FGP: 26.5% and FT: 70.3% in the 17 games she played so far. Niksic played for the Bosnia and Herzegovina U18 national team five years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to former international guard Matea Tavic (178-92, agency: Regeneracom Sports, currently plays in Slovenia). She led Ilrija to a victory over the league outsider Odeja KED (2-12) 73-57 in the Slovenian SKL last Saturday. Tavic was MVP of the game. She recorded 27 points (!!!) and grabbed 4 rebounds. KED Panter Ilirija Ljubljana (10-4) is placed fourth in the SKL. It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. It's Tavic's first season with the team. Tavic is currently fifth on the league's list of top scorers. She has individually a very good season with high stats. Tavic averages: 17.0ppg, 4.5rpg, 1.5apg, 1.4spg, 2FGP: 47.7%, 3FGP: 24.1% and FT: 83.6%. She played for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team in 2011.

Nikolina Milic

   #3. The Bosnia and Herzegovina player who performed third best last week abroad was former U18 international center Nikolina Milic (195-94, currently plays in Serbia). Milic was the main contributor in a Radnicki KG's victory against the eighth-ranked Student Radnicki (8-11) 70-58 in the Serbian A League on Wednesday night. She was the best player in that game. Milic scored 20 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 30 minutes. Radnicki Kragujevac (12-7) is placed third in the A League. Her team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is quite important. Milic belongs to league's top scorers (ranked #9) and also on the list of best blockers (fourth place). She has very reliable stats this year: 14.1ppg, 6.8rpg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 55.3%(104-188) and FT: 54.6% in the 19 games. Milic played for the Bosnia and Herzegovina U18 national team three years ago.

   #4. Center Marica Gajic (187-95, currently plays in Slovenia) contributed to a Athlete Celje's victory against the seventh-ranked Jezica (6-6) 68-61 in the Slovenian SKL in Tuesday night's game. She recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 10 rebounds. Gajic also added 3 assists. ZKK Athlete Celje (14-1) is placed first in the SKL. It was her team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is extremely important. This season Gajic has very high stats. She averages: 16.3ppg, 12.0rpg, 1.8apg and 2.3spg. Gajic used to play for the Bosnia and Herzegovina U18 national team back in 2010.

She scored 10 points, grabbed 4 boards, handed out 3 passes and blocked 3 shots. Atomeromu KSC Szekszard (14-5) is placed second in Places 9-14 group. It was her team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Svitlica is currently second on the league's list of best blockers. This season she has very good stats: 11.9ppg, 5.3rpg and 1.2bpg. Forward Lejla Bejtic (175-85, currently plays in Romania) was the major contributor in Sp.Studentesc's victory against the fifth-ranked Brasov (0-1) 79-74 in the Romanian Liga Nationala on Saturday night. She recorded 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists in 40 minutes. CSM Sportul Studentesc Bucuresti (9-12) is placed ninth in the Liga Nationala. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. Bejtic has relatively good stats this year: 12.7ppg, 4.2rpg, 3.8apg and 1.8spg in the six games. She is a former international player as she played for the Bosnia and Herzegovina senior team two years ago.

Former international power forward Alma Kovacevic (186-83, currently plays in Bulgaria) helped Haskovo 2012 win their game against the league leader Neftochimic (17-1) 84-80 in the Bulgarian NBL in Saturday night's game. Kovacevic scored 12 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Haskovo 2012 (9-9) is placed third in the NBL. Kovacevic belongs to league's best rebounders and is ranked #7. Her overall stats this season are: 9.5ppg and 8.5rpg. Demirovic is currently fourth on the list of best rebounders with 9.5rpg. This year she also averages: 11.4ppg, 1.5apg and 1.4spg in the 19 games. Mehmedic is currently fifth on the list of top scorers and also on the list of best passers (first place). This season she has very high stats. Mehmedic averages: 17.3ppg, 4.3rpg, 6.4apg and 2.9spg. Stupar scored 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Stupar's total stats this season are: 8.2ppg, 5.2rpg, 2.0apg and 2.0spg. She used to play for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team two years ago.

Former U18 international forward Vanja Milosevic (182-91, currently plays in Serbia) managed to help Srbobran Reahem in a 3-point victoryagainst the tenth-ranked Beocin 56-53 in the Serbian A League on Saturday night. Milosevic scored only 4 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 15 minutes. This year Milosevic's total stats are: 6.5ppg, 4.6rpg and 1.2spg in the 19 games. She used to play for the Bosnia and Herzegovina U18 national team back in 2009.

   #13. Former international guard Tamara Kapor (184-91, currently plays in Adriatic League) is a teammate of previously mentioned Anja Stupar and both played together in the last Adriatic League game. Kapor helped her Serbian team Radivoj Korac win their game against the tenth-ranked ZKK Vrsac 73-60. She scored 8 points. Kapor has averaged so far 8.9ppg, 2.4rpg and 1.6apg. She used to play for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team two years ago.

   #14. Former international guard Sasa Cadjo (178-89, currently plays in Adriatic League) helped her Serbian team Partizan win their game against the sixth-ranked Mladi Krajisnik 78-59 in the Adriatic League last Saturday. Cadjo scored only 2 points and added 3 passes in 12 minutes. Cadjo has averaged so far 3.5ppg and 1.3apg in the four games. She used to play for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team back in 2008.

   #15. Former international guard Milica Deura (178-90, currently plays in Adriatic League) is a teammate of previously mentioned Sasa Cadjo and both played together in the last Adriatic League game. Deura helped her Serbian team Partizan win their game against the sixth-ranked Mladi Krajisnik 78-59. She scored only 2 points. Deura has averaged so far 5.4ppg, 1.6rpg and 1.4apg. She used to play for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team two years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Bosnia and Herzegovina passport but never been selected to any of Bosnia and Herzegovina national teams:

   #1. Experienced Selma Delibasic (193-C-80, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian A2 (12th division) could not help Calabria (4-14) in their last game. Despite her very good performance the 11th-placed Calabria lost 43-52 at home to the higher-ranked (#5) Min.Battipaglia in the South group. Delibasic had a double-double by scoring 18 points and getting 12 rebounds. She also added and 5 steals in 39 minutes. The Regular Season already ended. Delibasic has relatively good stats this year: 11.5ppg, 9.3rpg and 1.6spg in the 18 games she played so far.

   #2. Ivana Jovanovic (185-F/C-85, currently plays in Croatia), who plays in the Croatian A1 was not able to help Tresnjevka (6-9) in their last game on Saturday. Despite her very good performance Tresnjevka was defeated 63-54 on their home court in Tresnjevka by the leading Gospic. Jovanovic was the top scorer with 21 points (went 5 for 5 at the free throw line). Jovanovic has relatively good stats this season: 15.0ppg, 5.3rpg, 3.0apg and 2.3spg.

   #3. Aleksandra Begenisic (193-C-89, currently plays in Greece) was the major contributor in Aris' victory against the closely-ranked Panionios (13-3) crushing them 75-43 in the Greek A1 in Sunday night's game. She scored 13 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 24 minutes. Aris Thessalonikis (8-8) is placed fifth in the A1. It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row. Begenisic has relatively good stats this year: 10.1ppg and 7.4rpg in the 12 games.   



Jedinstvo Aida, the European Champion 1989 - 3 days ago
28 years ago, "Jedinstvo Aida" (Tuzla) won European Champions' Cup ( i.e. today's Euroleague). "Jedinstvo Aida" won Europe's most prestigious women's basketball trophy by beating "Primigi" Vicenza of Italy 74:70 (37:35) in the Champions' Cup final in Florence on March 22, 1989. Division I Round 17: Celik hands first defeat to Play Off - 3 days ago
Play Off (15-1) recorded its first loss in Zenica on Wednesday night. Visitors were edged by third ranked Celik (14-2) 90-89. It ended at the same time the 13-game winning streak of Play Off. Celik have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Newly promoted Celik maintains third place with 14-2 record behind leader Play Off.
