Brooklyn Nets connection to Mostar Bosnia, a pipeline to NBA talent!

When one thinks of the Brooklyn Nets they wouldnt think of Bosnia. They should however, since this small country located on the Balkan peninsula of Europe has been a pipeline of talent to the NBA team. This small Bosnian town, population estimates it to be 105,000 total (there hasnt been a census since 1991 because of the war). It is hard to imagine that such a small remote town in a tiny country in Europe could produce three NBA players for the team, yet they have.

It started with Zoran Planinic who was a first round pick of the team in 2003. Zoran Planinic played three years in the NBA and could have played plenty more. He however tired of being a backup to star Jason Kidd, getting 8-12 minutes a night and making similar money that he could make in Europe and be a star. Zoran has been spectacular this season in Europe probably the best point guard, along with another Bosnian Aleksandar Capin.

Mirza Teletovic was the number one forward in Europe the last three seasons. He had nothing left to prove in Europe and decided to take his talents to the NBA; he had quite a few suitors with two being the Cavaliers and the Nets. Both destinations would have been excellent fits for the sharp shooting big man. Mirza got off to a slow start with the team but has been playing well and getting consistent minutes off the bench lately. He is being counted on as a key contributor for the team starting next season.

Bojan Bogdanovic was a draft and stash player the team picked up in a trade from the Heat. Bojan is a 202cm shooting guard who has a sweet stroke and is a good shot selection. His size makes him a tough matchup as he can get his shot off against anybody. Bojan is the first player in 10 years in Euroleague final 16 to average over 20ppg this season. He is looking like a steal as a second round pick of the team.

Bosnia has quite a few young NBA talents in the pipeline with Nedim Buza being voted the MVP of basketball without borders camp last summer. Doko Salic was MVP of the first round of the NIJT tournament this season and Emir Sulejmanovic was MVP of the second round. Jusuf Nurkic another center prospect was MVP of the NIJT last season. Three Bosnian prospects were named to the Jordan Brand Classic camp in Spain this season Alija Piric, Dragan Bender and Nedim Dedovic. Samir Sehic is one of the best center prospects in American High school. Bosnian kid Adnan Vrabac 202cm SG/SF reminds many of another former Nets from the Balkans, Slovenian Bostjan Nahchbar. This is just scratching the surface of the future potential of the Bosnian NBA connection and possibly more prospects funneled to the Bosnian NBA team, the Brookly Nets.
