Another interview, this time with Admir Prasovic, coach who is currently in Zeljeznicar womens team.

1.How did you fall in love with basketball and what was the key moment in your life to start coaching?
It happened during the '80s, my brother Adel Prasovic played for youth teams of BC Bosna, a team that was a powerhouse in former Yugoslavia back then. Their youth selections could be compared to the strength of today' s national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina. I begged him to take me with him to practices and games, so it all began. I was aware that the war in early 90s will not give me a chance to be a player at the top level, but basketball has already become part of me and I decided to start coaching.

2.The first opportunity to work as a coach arrived in 2003 years when in your native Sarajevo you started coaching youth teams of Zeljeznicar. As a 23 year old young coach it must have been a a big challenge at that time?
That's right, I was invited by the head coach Elmedin Omanic to actually organize the work with youth teams at the Club. First we started a basketball school and after only three years of dedicated work we had an important role at the state level. But it was essential that the senior team started getting players from our youth teams and it was not the case before. I also started following the practices of the first team and my love for the game of basketball just grew even more.

3.In 2006 arrived the first trophies in your trophy room. As assistant coach of Zeljeznicar you won the championship and the cup of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Could you tell us more about this experience?
I was lucky and enjoyed the experience because of the ambition of the club, commitment of the management and the goals of the club that were very demanding- to win the championship and national cup but also to win as many games as possible on the international level through EWWL Trocal league, then the FIBA Cup. I worked with, or rather learned from top players, had a chance to collaborate with great coaches: Elmedin Omanic, Hamdo Frljak, Mladen Jojic, Mensura Hadzic-Andelija. A large number of top players and national team members from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia, Serbian played for Zeljeznicar and it was certainly a period in which I learned and gained a lot of experience The national league in Bosnia and international competitions have been at a very high level at that time.

4.In the seasons 2007/2008 and 2009/2010 Zeljeznicar made it to the Top 16 in the FIBA Eurocup. How important was for you as a young assistant coach the chance to scout strong team from the Eurocup?
These are things that are remembered for a lifetime, playing against clubs that have huge budgets, the entire roster consisting of professionals from the strongest leagues of Europe. As a young coach you are part of a team and carry a great responsibility. Trying to easily share all the pressure with the first coach, you just focus on one thing and that is to meet the target and go to the second phase of the competition. Experience and school of life for me. The first year we were eliminated by Tarbes (FRA) and in the following season we won against Partizan (SRB) in Vrsac. I will remember it for a lifetime as the greatest victory, because during the game on the day 14.01.2010. my son Nedim was born.

5.The award for quality work came in season 2011/2012 when you were appointed as head coach of Play off from Sarajevo. Was it difficult to make the transition from the role of assistant coach to the role of head coach and could you tell us more about results of Play off in the period while you were head coach?
There is no transition, you feel the moment and move to work independently, then you need to see if you are ready to deal with all the pressures, responsibility and have mental strength to manage senior team players. I also do not like the division between coaches of male and female teams. The key is in approach and psychology. When I say 'approach' I mean to have the authority and knowledge, because only in this way you can earn respect from your players. By 'psychology' I mean the power of the spirit that you have as a coach to be able to get the best out of the team, to hide all their weaknesses and make them look strong in the final minutes of important games because it's in your job description. Play off finished the season at 3rd place, right behind Spurs and Sloboda Dita. Many people consider it the best season in Bosnian basketball since its independence. What I was particularly proud on is the fact that I promoted a couple of young players who never got a real chance before and now they are on the national team's lists.

6.In June 2013 years you had the honor to cooperate with John Thompson III at a camp organized by Georgetown University. How important was this experience for you? Did you get any advice from the famous NCAA coach Thompson?
I got a call and agreed to do it. It was an unforgettable experience. I was interested in methodology, psychological approach, method of selection of players in terms of potential etc. It fascinated me the motivation of US players who at any time have a passionate motive to win 1 on 1 and play defense with a lot of energy. Shooting drills and percentages get a lot of importance and even though there are many details accurate shooting is the basic of the game of basketball. John Thompson III is a good coach and son of the famous John Thompson, with whom I had the honor to talk and he gave me the right advice. He did not talk much, but he showed that he cared about young coaches at the camp and we talked a lot after we got to know each other better.

7.In 2014 you were the assistant coach of U18 national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the European Championship A division in Turkey (Konya). You had a chance to work with talented young players like Nedim Dedovic, Edin Atic, Kenan Karahodzic, Imran Polutak and others. How did that experience go?
Great generation and a smart team. This team showed character and we avoided relegation in A division, which was the goal, but the majority of players were born in 1997 so it was a big accomplishment to fight against older players. The same team in 2015 played in 1/2 finals of the European Championships in Greece and in the end we took 4th place as the upgraded version of the team that in 2013 was selected by my colleague Dragan Bajic. I was very motivated to to work with this generation but also to cooperate with Dragan Bajic because his team in the season 2013/14 played the most attractive basketball in ABA League.

8.After you got a FIBA license in 2014, you took the head coaching job in women basketball club Zeljeznicar and promoted the young generation of players who have qualified for this season for Liga 6, with only two experienced players. How satisfied are you with individual progress and the progress of the team in the previous two seasons?
Results come at the end of the process. You take a starting point, transition and result as the final outcome and then you realize that you have done a good work. This is primarily the result of merit of players who started believing in themselves, dedicated themselves to training with a lot of energy while adopting rapidly elements of modern basketball and the most important thing- started to apply lessons learned through the game. We can not ignore the commitment and discipline of my assistants Milos Milosevic, Salih Keljajic and Emir Bukva who all helped me a lot to work with the team. We finished the Liga 6 with 5 wins and 5 defeats and its a solid result. But it essentially important that 6 our players got calls for U16 (2) and U20 (4) national teams of Bosnia, Samra Omerbasic signed for La Harve (FRA) while Ariana Moorer made it to the All League team for the season 2015/16 and was the best player in Bosnian Championship for the season 2015/16. We have to be satisfied.

9. Knowing that you already have good coaching experience can you tell us more about your approach to basketball? What can be expected of the team coached by Admir Prasovic ?
First of all, commitment to work. basketball is not something you can leave and come back after a long break, you have to be constantly there, keep track of all game transformations and models similar to how you play. What players need to know and what they need to focus in the game is to defeat opponents and outsmart them in both directions (offense, defense). My team needs to run a lot and play in transition, recognize opportunities, and work hard in defense to win. Prior to this in the selection of players I tell them to pay attention on three very important facts. I chose them because I'm aware of their quality and they have my full support, I want to help them become better players through the season, and the most important thing is that I expect from my players loyalty.
