The Bulgarian University Games selection started in perfect way his participation at Universiade 2009 in Belgrade with a 79-71 (23-20, 17-14, 18-23, 21-14) win over Ukraine. The team of Konstantin Papazov improve to 1-0 record in Pool D. This is the first win for Bulgaria at such a competition in 4 years.

Tomorrow Bulgaria will face Japan in his second match from the group which will be held in Novi Belgrade. Hristo Nikolov scored 15 points, Chavdar Kostov had 14, Ivan Lilov chipped 13 and center Nikolay Varbanov had 12 points and 5 rebounds for Bulgaria. Dmytro Glebov had 17 points and Sergyi Popov 15 for Ukraine. Bulgaria had a good start taking a 3-point lead after the first quarter at the Millenium Center in Vrsac. The team of Papazov never rally in the next 3 periods and stayed solid until the end of the match. The Bulgarians were slowed three times in the game as the Valentyn Melnichuk players cut the deficit by one point. Ukraine had a chance to take advantage in the game in the end of the third quarter when came close for 57-58 but at the end Bulgaria found a way to seal his first win at the University Games. The Bulgarian University Selection was perfect with 100% record in the two points shooting (46/46) and also surpassed the Ukrainian team in assists 13-9 and steals 16-8. Ukraine outrebounded Bulgaria 35-22 but committed 30 turnovers in the loss.

Despite there was some rumors over the past few days that Pero Antic (210-F-82, agency: Interperformances) will return to Bulgarian powerhouse Lukoil Akademik, that will not happen. There was many stories in media that Antic left Russian team Lokomotiv Rostov as he was reportedly unhappy regarding the payments. However, Lokomotiv Director Andrej Vedishev has quickly dismissed such rumors saying that Antic will stay with the club next season [read more]

There was many stories in media that Antic left Russian team Lokomotiv Rostov as he was reportedly unhappy regarding the payments. However, Lokomotiv Director Andrej Vedishev has quickly dismissed such rumors saying that Antic will stay with the club next season. Vedishev went on to confirm that the most of foreign players that played for club will become free agents. So players like Frederick House, Rawle Marshall and Simon Szewczyk will be looking for new clubs next season. Still Vedishev maintained that the club is very pleased with Antic's performances last season and he will stay with it one more year for sure. Several clubs including Red Star Belgrade and Bulgarian Lukoil Akademik, have recently stated its interest in Antic. Pero Antik started his career with Rabotnicki. After a single season at the club, he signed with AEK Athens in 2002. After 3 seasons in Greece, Antic singed for Red Star Belgrade with whom he has won National Cup in 2006. In 16 games in Serbian League, Antic averaged 7.8 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. Good games at Read Star recommended him to Lukoil Akademik in Bulgaria. He signed for Bulgarian champion in 2008 and has quickly become fans favorite. In 37 games for Lukoil, Antic averaged 22.4 points and 9.7 rebounds. With Lukoil Antic won the double in 2008. This season with Lokomotiv, Antic played in 9 Russian League games posting averages of 9.8p points and 4.4 rebounds while shooting , 51.4% for two. Antic is also regular member of Macedonia National Team.
Chernomorets Burgas will enter into a new season in Bulgarian 2nd league with new Head Coach. The team appointed 34-year old Detcho Koeshinov to the position. Even though he is fairly young and this being his first Head Coaching position, Chernonmorec Management still believes Kosheinov is the right man for the job. Kosheinov has stated that he is delighted to be given a chance and hopes that he will be able to gather a competitive squad for next season which will try to challenge for promotion [read more]

Recently Chenrnomorec received new Management which has worked hard to improve condtions within the club. Their gym has been renovated, with new floors and new baskets put in. Now they are hoping to create a good base to build on and have a stable team in the first league within next few years. Detcho Koeshinov had a fairly successful playing career. He was a member of Bulgaria National Team from 1997 until 2004. He started his career with Slavia Sophia in 1997. He also played for a host of clubs in Bulgaria including Dimitrovgrad, Akademik Sophia, Lukoil Akademic and Tundja Yambol while aboard he played a season in Belgium with Atomics Brussels. Koeshinov had most success with Lukoil Akademik for whom he played from 2003-2005. During that time he has won 3 National Cups and 2 National Titles. In 2005 he signed with Tundja Yambol where he finished his career after season 2007-2008. Last season, Keoshinov worked as Tundja Yambol Assistant Coach.
