Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Bulgarians who are currently playing abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is an international guard Earl Rowland (188-83, college: St.Mary's, CA, currently plays in VTB United League), who plays in Latvia. He could not help VEF Riga (6-3) in their last game. Despite Rowland's very good performance the fourth-placed VEF Riga lost 72-77 at home to the higher-ranked (#3) Lokomotiv in the group B of VTB United League. He was the top scorer with 24 points. Rowland also added 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 31 minutes on the court. It was VEF Riga's first loss after four consecutive victories. Rowland is currently first on the league's list of top scorers and also on the list of best rebounders (seventh place). He has individually a very good year with high stats. Rowland averages: 18.7ppg, 6.7rpg, 5.8apg, 2.0spg, 2FGP: 62.2%(56-90), 3FGP: 34.8% and FT: 82.1% in the nine games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Rowland played for the Bulgarian senior national team one years ago. Strangely he has never played in Bulgaria.

   #2. Second place goes to an international power forward Dejan Ivanov (205-86, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in Euroleague), who plays in Lithuania. Ivanov was not able to help Lietuvos rytas in their last game on Thursday. Despite his very good performance Lietuvos rytas was edged 66-65 on the road by the lower-ranked Besiktas (#7). Ivanov was the top scorer with 16 points. He also added 5 rebounds. It's Ivanov's first season with the team. Ivanov's overall stats this year are: 6.8ppg, 4.6rpg, 2FGP: 52.3% and FT: 88.9%. He played for the Bulgarian national team in 2011.

   #3. The Bulgarian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international point guard Ibrahim Jaaber (187-84, college: Pennsylvania, currently plays in VTB United League). Jaaber contributed to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked BC Nizhny Novgorod (4-5) 76-58 in the VTB United League last Monday. He scored 8 points in 18 minutes. B.C. Zalgiris Kaunas (7-1) is placed second in group B. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Jaaber is currently third on the league's list of most steals with 2.0spg. This year he also averages: 6.3ppg, 2.0rpg, 2.0apg, 2FGP: 60.9%(14-23), 3FGP: 9.1% and FT: 58.3% in the six games. Jaaber is a naturalized American. He played for the Bulgarian national team three years ago. Apparently Jaaber has never played in Bulgaria.

Guard Earl Calloway (191-83, college: Indiana, currently plays in Spain) contributed to an easy victory against the 14th-ranked CB Canarias (4-9) crushing them 88-67 in the Spanish ACB on Wednesday night. He recorded 8 points. Unicaja Malaga (7-6) is placed tenth in the ACB. Calloway's overall stats this season are: 7.2ppg, 3.2rpg, 1.8apg and 1.2spg. He is a naturalized American. Calloway used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2010. Interesting that he has never played in Bulgaria.

Former international center Jared Homan (206-83, college: Iowa St., currently plays in Germany) led Bayern Muenchen to an easy victory against the 13th-ranked Walter Tigers (5-8) crushing them 107-80 in the German BBL in Saturday night's game. Homan recorded 14 points in a mere 15 minutes. FC Bayern Muenchen (7-6) is placed seventh in the BBL. This year Homan's overall stats are: 10.0ppg, 5.9rpg, 1.3apg and 1.2bpg in the 12 games. He is a naturalized American. Homan used to play for the Bulgarian national team two years ago. However he has never played in Bulgaria.

   #6. Power forward Hristo Nikolov (200-85, currently plays in Romania), who plays in the Romanian Division A was not able to secure a victory for U-Mobitelco (8-6) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Nikolov's very good performance U-Mobitelco was edged 84-82 on the opponent's court by the leading Oradea. He was the top scorer with 16 points. Nikolov also added 4 boards, dished 4 assists and stole 3 balls. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This season Nikolov has very high stats. He averages: 15.4ppg, 4.6rpg, 2.8apg and 1.8spg. Nikolov is an international player who is currently on the senior Bulgarian National Team roster.

International shooting guard Pavlin Ivanov (194-93, also represented by Beo Basket, currently plays in Eurocup) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Lukoil Academik 74-55 in the Eurocup on Wednesday night. He scored 7 points in only 6 minutes. KK Buducnost Voli Podgoricais placed second in group I. This year Ivanov averages only 6.0ppg in the two games. He is also Bulgarian national team player.

   #8. Forward Simeon Iliev (203-89, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Balkan League), who plays in Greece couldn't help Kavala (4-3) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Iliev's good performance Kavala was defeated 85-76 in Beograd by the league outsider OKK Beograd (#10). He scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Iliev's team will play only one more game in the Balkan League Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. Iliev's total stats this season are: 5.0ppg and 2.8rpg. He used to play for the Bulgarian U20 national team back in 2009.

International guard Aleksandar Gruev (187-83, agency: Global Sports Plaza, currently plays in Romania) contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams CS Farul Constanca (1-13) crushing them 84-63 in the Romanian Division A last Wednesday. Gruev recorded 9 points and added 9 assists in 27 minutes. CSU Atlassib Sibiu (7-7) is placed tenth in the Division A. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Gruev is ranked fifth on the list of the best passers in the league with 5.5apg. This year he also averages: 12.3ppg and 2.7rpg in the 12 games. Gruev used to play for the Bulgarian national team last year.

   #10. Guard Andre Owens (193-80, college: Houston, currently plays in Cyprus) couldn't help Keravnos (4-2) in their game against Apoel (5-3) in the Cypriot Division A. He scored 8 points. Keravnos was defeated 64-51 in Nicosia by the lower-ranked Apoel (#3). They ended the series of three consecutive victories. Owens' total stats this season are: 5.5ppg and 3.5rpg. He is a naturalized American. Owens is a former international player as three years ago he still played for the Bulgarian senior national team. He used to play for Lukoil Academik Sofia in Bulgarian league.

   #11. International forward Aleksandar Georgiev (203-90, another player represented by Interperformances, currently plays in Spain), who plays in the Spanish ACB couldn't help Assignia Manresa (1-11) in their last game. Despite Georgiev's good performance the bottom-ranked Assignia Manresa lost 80-95 in Murcia to the higher-ranked (#13) UCAM. He scored 10 points in 22 minutes. This year Georgiev's total stats are: 5.3ppg and 2.2rpg in the 12 games. He plays currently for the Bulgarian national team.

   #12. An experienced former international guard Roderick Blakney (184-76, college: S.Carolina St., currently plays in Spain) managed to help Cajasol Banca Civica Sevilla in a victory against one of league's weakest teams Lagun Aro GBC 73-57 in the Spanish ACB on Sunday night. He scored 5 points in 9 minutes. This year Blakney averages only 2.5ppg in the two games. He is a naturalized American. Blakney used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2007.

   #13. Former international forward Hristo Petkov (202-85, college: Campbellsville, currently plays in Denmark), who plays in the Danish Ligaen couldn't help Aarhus BC (5-11) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Petkov's very good performance Aarhus BC was badly defeated 89-72 on their home court in Aarhus by the higher-ranked Horsens IC (#3). He was the top scorer with 16 points. Petkov also added 4 rebounds. He has relatively good stats this season: 12.6ppg and 6.6rpg. Petkov used to play for the Bulgarian national team eleven years ago.

   #14. Former international center Krum Doychinov (206-86, another player represented by Interperformances, currently plays in Greece), who plays in the Greek A2 (second division) couldn't help OFI (1-9) in their last game. Despite his good performance the bottom-ranked OFI lost 79-83 in Arkadia to the higher-ranked (#10) Arkadikos. Doychinov recorded 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 30 minutes. Doychinov belongs to league's best rebounders (ranked #5) and also on the list of best blockers (second place). He has very reliable stats this year: 10.7ppg, 8.2rpg, 1.4apg and 1.1bpg in the 10 games. Doychinov used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2010.


The list of other players, who all have Bulgarian passport but never been selected to any of Bulgarian national teams:

   #1. Willie Deane (188-PG-80, agency: Higher Vision Sports, college: Purdue, currently plays in Ukraine) led Khimik to a victory over the closely-ranked Halychyna (11-10) 92-86 in the Ukrainian Superleague on Friday night. Deane was MVP of the game. He recorded 20 points and added 5 passes (made all of his six free throws) in 29 minutes. Khimik-OPZ Yuzny (12-6) is placed fourth in the Superleague. Deane has relatively good stats this year: 11.4ppg, 3.6rpg and 6.5apg in the 16 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Deane used to play for PBC Lukoil Akademik Sophia in Bulgarian league.

   #2. Ilian Evtimov (201-F-83, agency: Interperformances, college: N.Carolina St., currently plays in France), who plays in the French ProA could not help Chalon/Saor (7-4) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his good performance the league leader Chalon/Saor was defeated 81-74 on the road by the much lower-ranked JSF Nanterre (#13). Evtimov was the second best scorer with 14 points. He also added 4 rebounds. Evtimov has relatively good stats this season: 13.2ppg, 4.0rpg and 1.7apg. He has a dual citizenship: Bulgarian and French.

   #3. Dimitar Karadzovski (190-G-84, agency: Global Sports Plaza, currently plays in FYR Macedonia) contributed to Kozuv's victory against the sixth-ranked Fersped-Rabotnicki (4-4) 92-84 in the FYR Macedonian Prva Liga last Saturday. Karadzovski scored 9 points. Kozuv Gevgelija (6-2) is placed second in the Prva Liga. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Karadzovski is currently third on the league's list of best passers. He has very reliable stats this season: 11.4ppg, 3.3rpg and 3.8apg. Karadzovski is another player who holds two passports: Bulgarian and FYR Macedonian.

   #4. Kristoffer Gafor (194-G-92, currently plays in Sweden) was not able to help Malbas (8-4) in their game against Helsingborg (2-9) in the Swedish Basketettan (second division). He scored 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Malbas (#2) was edged 57-55 on the opponent's court by the much lower-ranked Helsingborg (#11) in the South group. Gafor is currently fourth on the league's list of top scorers. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Gafor averages: 21.1ppg, 7.8rpg, 1.7apg and 2.3spg. He has both Swedish and Bulgarian nationalities.

BC Beroe made a very big step towards securing a place in the final of SIGAL UNIQA Balkan League. The Greens defeated KK Teodo 78-69 away and will take a good advantage to the second game at home in Stara Zagora. It will be played next Tuesday, March 28th, and will decide the first team for the final. Teodo had a great start to the game and took a quick 9-2 advantage.
