NBL Round 10: Rilski Sportist loses to Balkan - Dec 23, 2012

The most important game in the last round took place in Samokov between second ranked Rilski Sportist (7-3) and sixth ranked Balkan (6-5) on Saturday night. Rilski Sportist was defeated by Balkan at home 60-70. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Rilski Sportist. The game without a history. Balkan led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Worth to mention a great performance of Serbian forward Uros Petrovic (205-90, agency: Beo Basket) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds. Brazilian center Atila Santos (208-83, college: Minnesota St., agency: Warren Sports International) contributed with 14 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. American point guard Terry Smith (185-86, college: Mercyhurst) replied with 20 points for Rilski Sportist. Balkan moved-up to fourth place. Rilski Sportist at the other side dropped to the third position with three games lost. Balkan are looking forward to face league's second-placed Levski Sofia at home in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Rilski Sportist will play against the league's leader Lukoil Academik in Sofia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

American swingman Devin Green (201-82, college: Hampton) scored 25 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Darryl Watkins chipped in 19 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side forward Simeon Tsenov (196-82) responded with 16 points. Defending champion maintains first position with 9-1 record. Spartak Pleven at the other side dropped to the ninth place with seven games lost. Lukoil Academik will play against Rilski Sportist (#3) in Samokov in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Spartak Pleven will play at home against U20 (#10) in Sofia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their tenth consecutive match to sixth ranked Tundja Yambol (5-5) 82-70 on Thursday evening. Nemanja Milosevic notched 29 points and 9 rebounds to lead the effort. Even 20 points and 7 rebounds by Aleks Simeonov did not help to save the game for U20. U20's coach Lyubomir Minchev rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Tundja Yambol maintains sixth position with 5-5 record. Newly promoted U20 still closes the standings with ten games lost. Tundja Yambol will meet Chernomorets (#8) in the next round. U20 will play against Spartak Pleven and hopes to get finally their first victory.

In the last game of round 10 Beroe was beaten by Levski Sofia on the road 96-89.
The most impressive performance of 10th round was 41 points (!!!) by Reginald Holmes of Beroe.


Levski Sofia - Beroe 96-89

No shocking result in a game when second ranked Levski Sofia (8-2) beat at home 7th ranked Beroe (3-6) 96-89 on Sunday. Beroe was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Levski Sofia forced 20 Beroe turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Serbian point guard Marko Marinovic (183-83) notched 27 points and 5 assists to lead the effort and international forward Dimitar Dimitrov (202-93, agency: Interperformances) supported him with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Levski Sofia players scored in double figures. Even 41 points (!!!) by American guard Reginald Holmes (193-87, college: Morgan St.) did not help to save the game for Beroe. His fellow American import guard Will Walker (183, college: De Paul) added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Levski Sofia have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 8-2 record behind leader Lukoil Academik. Newly promoted Beroe keeps the seventh place with six games lost. They share the position with Chernomorets. Levski Sofia will meet Balkan (#4) in the next round. Beroe will play against Euroins Cherno More in Varna and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

NBL top team - Lukoil Academik (9-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they beat eighth ranked Spartak Pleven (3-7) 91-75. The game was mostly controlled by Lukoil Academik. Spartak Pleven was better in fourth quarter 22-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Lukoil Academik dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Spartak Pleven's 20. They outrebounded Spartak Pleven 36-22 including 28 on the defensive glass. American swingman Devin Green (201-82, college: Hampton) scored 25 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import center Darryl Watkins (211-84, college: Syracuse) chipped in 19 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side forward Simeon Tsenov (196-82) responded with 16 points and guard Aleksandar Dyakovski (185-82, agency: Global Sports Plaza) scored 12 points. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their tenth consecutive match to sixth ranked Tundja Yambol (5-5) 82-70 on Thursday evening. The game without a history. Tundja Yambol led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Tundja Yambol forced 22 U20 turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Montenegrin power forward Nemanja Milosevic (204-87, college: W.Kentucky, agency: Interperformances) notched 29 points and 9 rebounds to lead the effort and international Martin Durchev (204-87) supported him with 19 points. Four Tundja Yambol players scored in double figures. Even 20 points and 7 rebounds by forward Aleks Simeonov (200-93) did not help to save the game for U20. point guard Deyan Karamfilov (180-94) added 12 points and 10 assists (made all of his seven free throws) for lost side.
