We bring you last week's top performances from Bulgarians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international guard Earl Rowland (188-83, college: St.Mary's, CA, currently plays in Latvia). He led VEF Riga to an overtime victory over the league leader Valmiera (11-5) 107-105 in the Latvian LBL in Friday night's game. Rowland was MVP of the game. He scored 32 points (!!!), had 4 rebounds and dished 9 assists in 39 minutes on the court. VEF Riga (7-1) is placed fifth in the LBL. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Rowland's first season with the team. Rowland has relatively good stats this year: 14.8ppg, 4.7rpg, 6.7apg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 48.9% in the six games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Rowland played for the Bulgarian senior national team one years ago. Strangely he has never played in Bulgaria.

   #2. Second place goes to former international point guard Ibrahim Jaaber (187-84, college: Pennsylvania, currently plays in Lithuania). Jaaber led Zalgiris to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams LSU-Baltai (2-8) crushing them 121-71 in a derby game in the Lithuanian LKL last Sunday. He scored 14 points and had 4 steals. B.C. Zalgiris Kaunas (5-0) is placed third in the LKL. So far his team won all five games in the Regular Season. This season Jaaber has relatively solid stats: 15.0ppg, 1.5rpg, 2.0apg, 4.5spg, 2FGP: 88.9%, 3FGP: 75.0%. He is a naturalized American. Jaaber played for the Bulgarian national team in 2009. Apparently he has never played in Bulgaria.

   #3. The Bulgarian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Dejan Ivanov (205-86, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in Lithuania). Ivanov led Lietuvos rytas to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Lietkabelis (5-5) crushing them 114-66 in the Lithuanian LKL on Thursday night. He scored 13 points, had 9 boards, passed 4 assists and added 3 steals in a mere 17 minutes. Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius (4-2) is placed eighth in the LKL. This year Ivanov averages: 7.0ppg, 5.8rpg, 2.0apg, 2FGP: 52.2% and FT: 75.0% in the six games. He played for the Bulgarian national team one years ago.

Guard Earl Calloway (191-83, college: Indiana, currently plays in Spain) contributed to an easy victory against the 14th-ranked CB Canarias (4-10) crushing them 88-67 in the Spanish ACB in Wednesday night's game. Calloway recorded 8 points. Unicaja Malaga (8-6) is placed seventh in the ACB. Calloway's overall stats this season are: 6.7ppg, 3.1rpg, 1.9apg and 1.2spg. He is a naturalized American. Calloway used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2010. Interesting that he has never played in Bulgaria.

Former international center Jared Homan (206-83, college: Iowa St., currently plays in Germany) led Bayern Muenchen to an easy victory against the tenth-ranked Phoenix Hagen (6-8) crushing them 123-97 in the German BBL last Saturday. Homan scored 20 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 21 minutes. FC Bayern Muenchen (8-6) is placed sixth in the BBL. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Homan has reliable stats this year: 10.8ppg, 5.8rpg, 1.2apg and 1.2bpg in the 13 games. He is a naturalized American. Homan used to play for the Bulgarian national team two years ago. However he has never played in Bulgaria.

   #6. Power forward Hristo Nikolov (200-85, currently plays in Romania), who plays in the Romanian Division A could not help U-Mobitelco (9-6) in their last game. Despite his very good performance U-Mobitelco was edged 84-82 on the road by the leading Oradea. Nikolov was the top scorer with 16 points. He also added 4 boards, dished 4 assists and stole 3 balls in 36 minutes. Nikolov's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. Nikolov's stats this year are: 14.9ppg, 4.4rpg, 2.8apg and 1.9spg in the 14 games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Bulgarian National Team roster.

   #7. International forward Kaloyan Ivanov (205-86, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian SerieA was not able to help Air Avellino (3-9) in their last game. Despite Ivanov's good performance Air Avellino was crushed 91-64 in Reggio Emilia by the much higher-ranked (#7) Trenkwalder RE. He was the top scorer with 11 points. Ivanov also added 8 rebounds in 22 minutes. It was his first game for Air Avellino this season. It was Air Avellino's third consecutive loss in a row. Ivanov used to play for the Bulgarian national team last year.

Guard Aleksandar Gruev (187-83, agency: Global Sports Plaza, currently plays in Romania), who plays in the Romanian Division A was not able to secure a victory for CSU Sibiu (7-8) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his very good performance CSU Sibiu was defeated 87-74 at home by the higher-ranked CSM Bucuresti (#5). Gruev was the top scorer with 20 points. He also added 7 rebounds and dished 5 assists. Gruev's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is quite important. Gruev is currently fifth on the list of best passers. He has very reliable stats this season: 12.8ppg, 3.0rpg and 5.5apg. Gruev used to play for the Bulgarian national team last year.

An experienced former international guard Roderick Blakney (184-76, college: S.Carolina St., currently plays in Spain) couldn't help one of league's weakest teams Cajasol (3-11) in their game against Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (4-10) in the Spanish ACB. He scored 9 points. But Cajasol was defeated 82-78 in Madrid by the higher-ranked Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (#15). This season Blakney averages only 4.7ppg. He is a naturalized American. Blakney used to play for the Bulgarian national team five years ago.

Shooting guard Pavlin Ivanov (194-93, also represented by Beo Basket, currently plays in Adriatic League) couldn't help one of league's weakest teams one of league's weakest teams Buducnost (8-7) in their game against Un.Olimpija (8-7) in the Adriatic League. Ivanov recorded 6 points in 18 minutes. Buducnost was edged in a triple overtime (!!!) 95-92 in Ljubljana by the higher-ranked (#6) Un.Olimpija. This year Ivanov averages only 1.6ppg in the five games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Bulgarian National Team roster.

   #11. International power forward Cedric Simmons (206-86, college: N.Carolina St., currently plays in Italy) managed to help Enel Brindisi to win against the 14th-ranked Angelico Biella crushing them 94-59 in the Italian SerieA last Sunday. Simmons scored only 2 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Simmons is currently fourth on the league's list of best blockers. His overall stats this season are: 6.8ppg, 5.5rpg and 1.3bpg. Simmons is a naturalized American. He plays currently for the Bulgarian national team.

   #12. Former international guard Andre Owens (193-80, college: Houston, currently plays in Cyprus) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Apollon 94-78 in the Cypriot Division A on Friday night. He scored 6 points in 36 minutes. This year Owens' overall stats are: 5.6ppg and 3.4rpg in the five games. He is a naturalized American. Owens used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2009. He played also for Lukoil Academik Sofia in Bulgarian league.

   #13. International forward Aleksandar Georgiev (203-90, currently plays in Spain) contributed to an Assignia Manresa's victory against the closely-ranked Baloncesto Fuenlabrada 74-66 in the Spanish ACB in Thursday night's game. Georgiev recorded 7 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. His total stats this season are: 5.0ppg and 2.1rpg. Georgiev is also Bulgarian national team player.

   #14. Former international forward Hristo Petkov (202-85, college: Campbellsville, currently plays in Denmark), who plays in the Danish Ligaen couldn't help Aarhus BC (5-11) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Aarhus BC was badly defeated 89-72 on their home court in Aarhus by the higher-ranked (#3) Horsens IC. Petkov was the top scorer with 16 points. He also added 4 rebounds in 35 minutes. Petkov averaged so far 12.6ppg and 6.6rpg in the 16 games. He used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2001.

   #15. U20 international guard Georgi Sirakov (186-92, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Italy) contributed to a Mazzeo San Severo's victory against the eighth-ranked Firenze 73-66 in the Italian Nazionale A (third division) on Sunday night. Sirakov recorded 10 points. This season he averages only 8.0ppg. Sirakov used to play for the Bulgarian U20 national team last year.


The list of other players, who all have Bulgarian passport but never been selected to any of Bulgarian national teams:

   #1. Dimitar Karadzovski (190-G-84, agency: Global Sports Plaza, currently plays in FYR Macedonia) led Kozuv to an overtime victory over the closely-ranked Kumanovo 2009 (6-3) 100-92 in the FYR Macedonian Prva Liga on Saturday night. Karadzovski was the best player in that game. He scored 22 points and added 3 assists. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Kozuv Gevgelija (7-2) is placed first in the Prva Liga. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. Karadzovski belongs to league's best passers and is ranked #3. He has very reliable stats this season: 12.6ppg, 3.1rpg and 3.7apg. Karadzovski has a dual citizenship: Bulgarian and FYR Macedonian.

   #2. Ilian Evtimov (201-F-83, agency: Interperformances, college: N.Carolina St., currently plays in France) contributed to Chalon/Saor's victory against the 11th-ranked Limoges CSP Elite (3-10) 83-77 in the French ProA last Saturday. Evtimov scored 6 points. ES Chalon-Sur-Saone (8-4) is placed first in the ProA. Evtimov averaged so far 12.6ppg, 3.7rpg and 1.7apg. He is another player who holds two passports: Bulgarian and French.

   #3. Willie Deane (188-PG-80, agency: Higher Vision Sports, college: Purdue, currently plays in Ukraine), who plays in the Ukrainian Superleague could not help Khimik (12-8) to beat BC Donetsk (10-8). He scored 6 points and added 6 passes in 21 minutes. Khimik was edged 73-72 at home by the lower-ranked (#7) BC Donetsk. It was Khimik's third consecutive loss in a row. Deane averaged so far 10.8ppg, 3.3rpg and 6.1apg in the 18 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Deane used to play for PBC Lukoil Akademik Sophia in Bulgarian league.

   #4. Dinko Marshavelski (211-F/C-89, currently plays college basketball in the States) was not able to help the Northeastern in their game against the University of North Carolina - Asheville in the NCAA. He recorded 6 points in only 12 minutes. The Northeastern lost 73-79 on their home court in Boston, MA to the University of North Carolina - Asheville. Marshavelski is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Northeastern's roster. This season Marshavelski averages only 8.0ppg in the 15 games.

Academic Bultex 99 won Pleven Tournament in Bulgaria. The team overcame Cherno More Ticha 86-79 in the Final game. Trailing 23-24 at the start of the game, Academic needed s strong second half to ensure the victory. They posted a 20-18 rally in the third period and closed the game with a 28-22 rally. Manuel Johnson (203-PF-83, college: Tex.A&M-Comm.) stepped up with 19 points and Vasil Bachev (195-SG-92, college: Cuesta JC) poured in 15. LNB newcomer Morges-Saint-Prex BBC added to their roster 33-year old FYR Macedonian-Bulgarian power forward Tomcho Sokolov (205-105kg-84). He played most recently at KK Strumica in FYR Macedonian Prva Liga. In 13 games he recorded 10.0ppg and 4.8rpg in 2015-16 season. Sokolov also played that season for Kozuv (also in Prva Liga) where in 11 games he averaged 3.0ppg and 3.4rpg. He also played 6 games in Balkan League where he had just 2.7ppg and 2.2rpg. Beroe - Lukoil Academic 86-85 Beroe overcame Lukoil Academic 86-85 in SuperCup 2017. Both teams showed completely different two quarters of the first half, Lukoil Academic taking a 31-19 lead after the first 10 minutes and then Beroe responding with 23-11 surge in the second frame. Beroe nailed 22 points in the third and then the last stanza for the final success. Alex Davis (206-F-92, college: Fresno St.) was named MVP of the game as he nailed 33 points for Beroe.
