We bring you last week's top performances from Bulgarians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an experienced former international forward Gergana Simeonov (186-79, currently plays in Italy). She led Parma to a victory over one of league's weakest teams Priolo (2-8) 70-51 in the Italian A1 in Wednesday night's game. Simeonov was MVP of the game. She scored 15 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 33 minutes on the court. Lavezzini Parma (8-2) is placed third in the A1. It was her team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. This year Simeonov averages: 8.1ppg, 5.3rpg, 1.3apg, 2FGP: 45.0%, 3FGP: 27.3% and FT: 66.7% in the 10 games she played so far. She played for the Bulgarian senior national team three years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to an international point guard Doneeka Hodges-Lewis (175-82, agency: LBM Management, college: LSU, currently plays in Turkey), who plays in the Turkish TKBL. She could not help Canik Bld (5-5) in their last game. Despite Hodges-Lewis' good performance Canik Bld was edged 72-70 on the road by the higher-ranked (#3) Botas. She was the top scorer with 14 points. Hodges-Lewis also added 5 rebounds and 4 assists in 37 minutes. It's Hodges-Lewis' first season with the team. Hodges-Lewis is currently sixth on the list of best passers with 4.3apg. This year her other stats are: 15.7ppg, 4.0rpg, 1.6spg, 2FGP: 33.3%, 3FGP: 45.9%(17-37) and FT: 72.4% in the seven games. Hodges-Lewis is a naturalized American. She played for the Bulgarian national team in 2011. Strangely Hodges-Lewis has never played in Bulgaria.

   #3. The Bulgarian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international forward Roksana Yordanova (184-84, currently plays in Italy). She was the main contributor in a 3-point San Salvatore's victory against the eighth-ranked Alghero (6-7) 72-69 in the Italian A2 (12th division) in Saturday night's game. Yordanova was the best player in that game. She recorded 21 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Basket San Salvatore (6-7) is placed seventh in North group. Yordanova has relatively good stats this season: 14.1ppg, 5.7rpg, 1.2apg, 1.2spg, 2FGP: 45.9%, 3FGP: 32.8% and FT: 70.6%. She played for the Bulgarian national team one years ago.

   #4. Forward Radoslava Bachvarova (183-87, also represented by LBM Management, college: VCU, currently plays in France) was not able to help Arras (3-11) in their game against Lyon (9-5) in the French LFB. Bachvarova was the second best scorer with 9 points. She also added 5 rebounds in 31 minutes. But Arras lost 49-55 at home to the much higher-ranked (#4) Lyon. This year Bachvarova's overall stats are: 7.1ppg, 2.1rpg and 1.1spg in the 11 games. She is also Bulgarian national team player.

   #5. International guard Ekaterina Dimitrova (182-87, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for Charleville-Mezieres (6-8) in their game against Villeneuve D'Ascq (4-10) in the French LFB. Dimitrova scored 6 points. Charleville-Mezieres was defeated 64-59 in Villeneuve by the lower-ranked D'Ascq (#12). They ended the series of three consecutive victories. Dimitrova's total stats this season are: 5.8ppg, 2.6rpg, 1.6apg and 1.7spg. She used to play for the Bulgarian national team last year.

   #6. Forward Evelina Guneva (183-80, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Spain) contributed to Gernika's victory against the fifth-ranked Orion-GDKO (6-4) 61-57 in the Spanish LF2 (12th division) in Saturday night's game. Guneva recorded 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 20 minutes. Gernika KESB (5-5) is placed seventh in Group B. It was her team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. This year Guneva has relatively solid stats: 11.0ppg and 6.8rpg in the 10 games. She is a former international player as she played for the Bulgarian senior team six years ago.

   #7. Former international forward Anna Rimpova (183-82, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help Marghera (9-4) in their game against Umana Reyer (12-1) in the Italian A2 (12th division). She cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. Rimpova recorded only 2 points in 14 minutes. The fifth-placed Marghera was edged 66-65 in a derby game by the leading Umana Reyer in the North group. This year Rimpova's total stats are: 9.2ppg, 5.2rpg and 1.3spg in the 13 games. She used to play for the Bulgarian national team five years ago.

The list of other players, who all have Bulgarian passport but never been selected to any of Bulgarian national teams:

   #1. Viktoria Mircheva (190-C-87, currently plays in France) contributed to a Nantes Reze's victory against the 11th-ranked Aix-en-Provence (5-9) 75-70 in the French LFB last Wednesday. Mircheva scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Nantes Reze Basket (8-6) is placed fifth in the LFB. It's Mircheva's first season with the team. Her overall stats this year are: 8.3ppg and 3.8rpg. Mircheva has a dual citizenship: Ukrainian and Bulgarian.

   #2. Dimana Georgieva (190-C-88, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian A1 could not help Priolo (2-8) to beat Parma (8-2). Georgieva scored only 4 points. Priolo was badly defeated 70-51 at home by the much higher-ranked Parma (#3). Georgieva's total stats this season are: 2.6ppg and 2.3rpg.

Chastity Reed (ex Beroe) joins Satu Mare - 2 months ago

CS Municipal Satu Mare (Liga I) agreed terms with 27-year old American forward Chastity Reed (185-89, college: UALR). She played last season at Beroe in Bulgarian NBL league. Reed managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year. In 11 NBL games she had 9.5ppg, 6.3rpg, 2.0apg and 1.0spg. She helped them to make it to the cup final. Reed also played that season for Flying Foxes in Austrian league where in two Eurocup games she was third best scorer with 12.5ppg and averaged 10.0...   [read more]

Haskovo 2012 (NBL) landed 31-year old American swingman Amber Holt (183-77kg-85, college: Middle Tennessee State). The last time (14) she played at Atenienses in Puerto Rican BSNF In 2008 Holt was drafted by Connecticut Sun (WNBA) in first round (9th overall). Chelsey Lee agreed terms with Haskovo 2012 - 2 months ago

Haskovo 2012 (NBL) inked 27-year old American center Chelsey Lee (193-89, college: Rutgers). She played in the summer at Washington Mystics (WNBA). The last season Lee played at Hanabank in South Korean WKBL where in 41 games she recorded 14.9ppg, 10.5rpg (leader !!!), 1.1spg and 1.1bpg. She played in the final of WKBL. Lee has played previously professionally in Romania (Galati) and Spain (CREF Hola). She attended Rutgers, The State University until 2013 and it will be her fourth season...   [read more]
