Here is the weekly review of the top performing Bulgarian players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is former international guard Earl Rowland (188-83, college: St.Mary's, CA, currently plays in VTB United League). He led his Latvian team VEF Riga to a 2-point victory over the seventh-ranked Triumph Lyubertsy (4-6) 80-78 in the VTB United League in Sunday night's game. Rowland was MVP of the game. He recorded 22 points and added 5 passes in 32 minutes on the court. VEF Riga (7-3) is placed third in group B. It's Rowland's first season with the team. Rowland is the league's top scorer and also on the list of best passers (third place). He has individually a very good year with high stats. Rowland averages: 19.0ppg, 6.3rpg, 5.7apg, 2.0spg, 3FGP: 34.5% and FT: 82.9% in the 10 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Rowland played for the Bulgarian senior national team two years ago. Strangely he has never played in Bulgaria.

   #2. Second place goes to former international center Jared Homan (206-83, college: Iowa St., currently plays in Germany). Homan led Bayern Muenchen to a 2-point victory over the closely-ranked ratiopharm Ulm (11-6) 80-78 in the German BBL on Saturday night. He was the best player in that game. Homan scored 20 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 30 minutes. FC Bayern Muenchen (11-6) is placed fourth in the BBL. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. Homan is ranked fifth on the list of the best blockers in the league with 1.2bpg. This year his other stats are: 11.3ppg, 5.8rpg, 1.3apg, 2FGP: 45.8% and FT: 60.8% in the 16 games. Homan is a naturalized American. He played for the Bulgarian national team in 2010. Apparently Homan has never played in Bulgaria.

   #3. The Bulgarian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international power forward Dejan Ivanov (205-86, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in VTB United League), who plays in Lithuania. He could not help Lietuvos rytas (5-5) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Ivanov's good performance the sixth-placed Lietuvos rytas was badly defeated 83-63 at home by the second-ranked Spartak St.Petersburg in the group A of VTB United League. He recorded 11 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Ivanov's overall stats this season are: 8.6ppg, 5.1rpg, 2FGP: 71.9%(23-32), 3FGP: 16.7% and FT: 66.7%. He played for the Bulgarian national team two years ago.

   #4. Guard Earl Calloway (191-83, college: Indiana, currently plays in Euroleague), who plays in Spain was not able to help Unicaja Malaga (1-1) in their last game. Despite Calloway's good performance Unicaja Malaga (#4) lost 63-75 on the road to the higher-ranked (#3) Zalgiris in the group E of Euroleague. He was the second best scorer with 11 points in 24 minutes. Calloway has relatively good stats this year: 10.2ppg, 2.3rpg, 2.2apg and 1.1spg in the 12 games. He is a naturalized American. Calloway used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2010. Interesting that he has never played in Bulgaria.

Former international forward Kaloyan Ivanov (205-86, also represented by Beo Basket, currently plays in Italy) led Air Avellino to a victory over the tenth-ranked Umana Venezia (6-8) 97-93 in the Italian SerieA on Sunday night. Ivanov was the top player that evening. He scored 21 points and grabbed 8 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Sidigas Avellino (4-10) is placed 14th in the SerieA. They ended the series of four consecutive loses. This season Ivanov has relatively solid stats: 14.7ppg, 8.7rpg, 1.7apg and 2.0spg. He used to play for the Bulgarian national team two years ago.

   #6. Point guard Ibrahim Jaaber (187-84, college: Pennsylvania, currently plays in VTB United League) managed to help B.C. Zalgiris Kaunas in a victory against the fourth-ranked Lokomotiv (6-4) 89-81 in the VTB United League in Sunday night's game. Jaaber recorded only 3 points and added 4 passes in 18 minutes. B.C. Zalgiris Kaunas (9-1) is placed first in group B. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. This year Jaaber's overall stats are: 5.4ppg, 2.0rpg, 2.3apg and 1.6spg in the eight games. He is a naturalized American. Jaaber is a former international player as he played for the Bulgarian senior team four years ago. However he has never played in Bulgaria.

International power forward Cedric Simmons (206-86, college: N.Carolina St., currently plays in Italy) contributed to a Enel Brindisi's victory against the 11th-ranked SAIE3 BO (6-8) 88-75 in the Italian SerieA on Sunday night. He scored 8 points in 21 minutes. Enel Brindisi (8-6) is placed sixth in the SerieA. Simmons belongs to league's best blockers and is ranked #3 with 1.4bpg. This year his other stats are: 6.5ppg and 5.4rpg in the 14 games. Simmons is a naturalized American. He is also Bulgarian national team player.

Forward Aleksandar Georgiev (203-90, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Assignia Manresa (2-14) in their game against Cajasol (5-11) in the Spanish ACB. He recorded 7 points. Assignia Manresa was defeated 67-60 in Sevilla by the higher-ranked Cajasol (#15). It was Assignia Manresa's third consecutive loss in a row. Georgiev's total stats this season are: 4.8ppg and 2.1rpg. He plays currently for the Bulgarian national team.

   #9. Former international forward Hristo Petkov (202-85, college: Campbellsville, currently plays in Denmark), who plays in the Danish Ligaen couldn't help Aarhus BC (5-12) in their last game. Despite Petkov's very good performance Aarhus BC was crushed 95-69 on the opponent's court by the higher-ranked (#5) Vaerlose. He was the top scorer with 16 points. Petkov also added 9 rebounds in 29 minutes. It was Aarhus BC's fifth consecutive loss in a row. Petkov has reliable stats this year: 12.8ppg and 6.8rpg in the 17 games. He used to play for the Bulgarian national team twelve years ago.

   #10. An experienced guard Roderick Blakney (184-76, college: S.Carolina St., currently plays in Spain) faced previously mentioned Aleksandar Georgiev in the Spanish ACB last game. Blakney helped Cajasol win their game against one of league's weakest teams Assignia Manresa (2-14) 67-60. He recorded only 3 points. Blakney's total stats this season are: 5.0ppg and 2.0apg. He is a naturalized American. Blakney is a former international player as six years ago he still played for the Bulgarian senior national team.

   #11. Former U20 international guard Georgi Sirakov (186-92, another player represented by Interperformances, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian Nazionale A (third division) couldn't help Mazzeo San Severo (6-10) in their last game. Despite Sirakov's good performance Mazzeo San Severo lost 76-80 on the opponent's court to the second-ranked Matera. He scored 10 points, made 3 passes and 3 steals in 25 minutes. This year Sirakov's total stats are: 8.1ppg, 1.1apg and 1.1spg in the 16 games. He used to play for the Bulgarian U20 national team two years ago.

   #12. Former international center Krum Doychinov (206-86, another player represented by Interperformances, currently plays in Greece) helped OFI win their game against the league outsider Niki Volou 93-87 in the Greek A2 (second division) in Saturday night's game. He scored 8 points and blocked 2 blocks. Doychinov belongs to league's best rebounders (ranked #6) and also on the list of best blockers (second place). He has very reliable stats this season: 10.5ppg, 7.6rpg, 1.5apg and 1.2bpg. Doychinov used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2010.


The list of other players, who all have Bulgarian passport but never been selected to any of Bulgarian national teams:

   #1. Pero Antic (210-F-82, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in Greece) contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider Panelefsiniakos (2-9) 94-76 in the Greek A1 last Sunday. Antic scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Olympiacos S.F.P. Pireus (11-0) is placed first in the A1. So far his team won all eleven games in the Regular Season. Antic's overall stats this season are: 6.0ppg, 2.6rpg and 1.3apg. He has a dual citizenship: FYR Macedonian and Bulgarian.

   #2. Experienced Willie Deane (188-PG-80, agency: Higher Vision Sports, college: Purdue, currently plays in Ukraine) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Mykolaiv (11-13) crushing them 86-45 in the Ukrainian Superleague last Saturday. Deane scored 9 points and added 4 assists. Khimik-OPZ Yuzny (13-9) is placed sixth in the Superleague. It was his team's first victory after four consecutive loses. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Deane has reliable stats this season: 10.8ppg, 3.1rpg and 5.9apg. He is a naturalized American. Deane used to play for PBC Lukoil Akademik Sophia in Bulgarian league.

   #3. Dinko Marshavelski (211-F/C-89, currently plays college basketball in the States) managed to help Northeastern University to win against the George Mason University (1-1) 84-74 in the NCAA last Thursday. Marshavelski scored only 4 points. The Northeastern University has 2-0 conference record this season. Marshavelski is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Northeastern's roster. He has averaged so far 8.1ppg, 1.1apg and 1.1spg.

   #4. Kee Kee Clark (180-PG-84, college: St.Peter's, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian SerieA could not help Umana Venezia (6-8) to beat Air Avellino (4-10). Clark cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 3 points in 19 minutes. Umana Venezia lost 93-97 on the road to the lower-ranked (#14) Air Avellino. It was Umana Venezia's first loss after three consecutive victories. Clark's stats this year are: 13.5ppg, 1.7rpg and 1.5apg in the 10 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American.

Akademic Bultex 99 Plovdiv (NBL) landed American guard Theo Johnson (198-93kg, college: Liberty). He spent the pre-season at Peja in the Kosovan SuperLeague, but eventually didn't sign for them. Johnson just graduated from Liberty University and this is his first season in pro basketball. He was a member of that team during his last two years in the NCAA, although he didn't play any official games in his last season (2015-16). Arkadia Traiskirchen Lions (A Bundesliga) signed 23-year old Bulgarian international power forward Dimitar Dimitrov (203-93, agency: Interperformances). It is actually his comeback to Arkadia Lions as he has played here before. Dimitrov already started the season at Lukoil Academic Sofia in Bulgarian NBL league. Division A Round 8: Vidabasket edges Rilski 2 by two points - 4 days ago

The most exciting game of round 8 in the Division A took place in Vidin. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 5th ranked Rilski 2 (2-4) to first ranked Vidabasket (5-1) 73-71 on Sunday evening. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Vidabasket maintains first position in A with 5-1 record.
