The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Lukoil Academik (10-2) on the court of second ranked Levski Sofia on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Levski Sofia 85-78. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Lukoil Academik. It was a key game for the top position in the league as both teams had the same 9-2 record before this meeting. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-18. But Lukoil Academik won second period 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. 30 personal fouls committed by Lukoil Academik helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Serbian point guard Marko Marinovic (183-83) who scored 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. International Chavdar Kostov (195-88, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 20 points. Levski Sofia's coach Konstantin Papazov used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Brandon Heath (193-84, college: San Diego St.) who recorded 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Levski Sofia have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They used an opportunity after Lukoil Academik lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position which they share with defeated Lukoil Academik. Levski Sofia is looking forward to face Spartak Pleven (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Lukoil Academik will play against Euroins Cherno More (#6) in Varna and is hoping to win this game.

Ivo Slavchev contributed with 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Forward Aleks Simeonov (200-93) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds for U20. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Chernomorets moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Beroe. Newly promoted U20 still closes the standings with 12 games lost. Chernomorets will play against Beroe (#7) in Stara Zagora in the next round. U20 will play on the road against Rilski Sportist in Samokov and hopes to get finally their first victory.
The game in Varna was also quite interesting. Fifth ranked Balkan (7-6) played at the court of 6th ranked Euroins Cherno More (5-6). Balkan managed to secure a 7-point victory 74-67 on Saturday. Worth to mention a great performance of Uros Petrovic who helped to win the game recording 21 points. The best for the losing side was Asen Velikov with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Euroins Cherno More's coach rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Balkan maintains fifth position with 7-6 record. Euroins Cherno More at the other side keeps the sixth place with six games lost. Balkan will meet at home higher ranked Tundja Yambol (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Euroins Cherno More will play against the league's leader Lukoil Academik in Sofia and hope to secure a win.

In the last two games of round 12 Spartak Pleven was crushed by Rilski Sportist in Samokov 94-74. Tundja Yambol beat Beroe at home 88-71.



U20 - Chernomorets 70-91

Bottom-ranked U20 (0-12) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 91-70 loss to ninth ranked Chernomorets (4-7) in Sofia. The game was mostly controlled by Chernomorets. U20 was better in fourth quarter 21-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Chernomorets dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to U20's 32. Chernomorets forced 21 U20 turnovers and outrebounded them 37-26 including a 27-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. U20 was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American center James Tyler (218-88) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 15 rebounds and 7 blocks. Forward Ivo Slavchev (198-90) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Tyler is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Chernomorets players scored in double figures. Rilski Sportist - Spartak Pleven 94-74

There was no surprise in Samokov where 8th ranked Spartak Pleven (4-8) was crushed by third ranked Rilski Sportist (8-4) 94-74 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Rilski Sportist. Spartak Pleven managed to win third quarter 27-26. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Rilski Sportist dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Spartak Pleven's 26. They outrebounded Spartak Pleven 49-25 including a 33-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of international Hristo Zahariev (197-90) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 6 rebounds and American forward Braxton Dupree (203-89, college: Towson, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) who added 16 points and 14 rebounds during the contest. Rilski Sportist's coach Rosen Barchovski allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Ilia Stankov (198-76) with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and power forward Dimitar Marintchechki (201-90, agency: Dynamics Global Management) scored 13 points and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Rilski Sportist maintains third position with 8-4 record having just two points less than leader Lukoil Academik. Spartak Pleven at the other side dropped to the ninth place with eight games lost. Rilski Sportist will meet at home bottom-ranked U20 (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Spartak Pleven will play against the league's second-placed Levski Sofia and hope to secure a win.

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Tundja Yambol (7-5) defeated at home 7th ranked Beroe (4-7) 88-71 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 50-28 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Tundja Yambol dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Beroe's 34. Worth to mention a great performance of international Martin Durchev (204-87) who helped to win the game recording 18 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists and Montenegrin power forward Nemanja Milosevic (204-87, college: W.Kentucky, agency: Interperformances) who added 19 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Four Tundja Yambol players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Atanas Radev (200-81) with 20 points and 7 rebounds and American guard Reginald Holmes (193-87, college: Morgan St.) scored 20 points and 6 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). The round was rather attractive and full of interesting results. The round ended with derby games and favorites losing the games. The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Sofia: Akademik Sofia (#4) and Levski 2014-2 (#2). Theo Johnson (ex Peja) signs at Academic Plovdiv - 3 days ago

Akademic Bultex 99 Plovdiv (NBL) landed American guard Theo Johnson (198-93kg, college: Liberty). He spent the pre-season at Peja in the Kosovan SuperLeague, but eventually didn't sign for them. Johnson just graduated from Liberty University and this is his first season in pro basketball.
