NBL Round 15: Haskovo 2012 loses to Levski - Jan 12, 2013

The game between third ranked Haskovo 2012 (5-8) and fifth ranked Levski (6-7) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Haskovo 2012 was defeated by Levski in Sofia 68-85. The game was mostly controlled by Levski. Haskovo 2012 managed to win third quarter 16-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 25-of-29 free shots (86.2 percent) during the game. Levski forced 19 Haskovo 2012 turnovers. 24 personal fouls committed by Haskovo 2012 helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for international forward Daniela Peteva (179-89, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who led her team to a victory with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Charel Allen (181-86, college: Notre Dame) contributed with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Levski's coach Stefan Mihaylov used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Bosnian guard Amra Mehmedic (177-81) answered with 14 points and 7 assists for Haskovo 2012. Levski moved-up to third place, which they share with Montana 2003. Newly promoted Haskovo 2012 dropped to the fifth position with eight games lost. Levski is looking forward to face Beroe (#6) in Stara Zagora in the next round. Haskovo 2012 will have a break next round.

Viive Kai Rebane helped adding 12 points and 9 rebounds. Neftochimic's coach Peter Marinov felt very confident using entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was forward Ralitsa Naneva (178-86) with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Undefeated Neftochimic have an impressive series of thirteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 13-0 record. Beroe lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with nine games lost. Neftochimic's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Burgas Neftochimic.
The game between fourth ranked Montana 2003 (6-7) and 7th ranked Rilski Sportist (1-12) in Montana on Saturday ended with biggest points difference. Montana 2003 outscored guests from Samokov 91-52. It was a quality performance for Milena Tomova who led the winners and scored 19 points and 9 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Anne Farrell came up with 16 points and 6 rebounds for Rilski Sportist in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Montana 2003 moved-up to third place, which they share with Levski. Rilski Sportist at the other side stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. Montana 2003 will meet league's second-placed Dunav 8806 in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Rilski Sportist will have a break next round.



Neftochimic - Beroe 88-58

NBL top team - Neftochimic (13-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed sixth ranked Beroe (4-9) in Burgas 88-58. It looked good early as Beroe took an 10-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Neftochimic took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 30 points. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Beroe to just 7 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Beroe 44-29 including 16 on the offensive glass. Neftochimic players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. It was a great evening for American power forward Ashley Gayle (193-90, college: Texas, agency: LBM Management) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 blocks. The game between fourth ranked Montana 2003 (6-7) and 7th ranked Rilski Sportist (1-12) in Montana on Saturday ended with biggest points difference. Montana 2003 outscored guests from Samokov 91-52. The game without a history. Montana 2003 led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Rilski Sportist's 36 and made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Montana 2003 forced 30 Rilski Sportist turnovers and outrebounded them 39-26 including 27 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a quality performance for the former international power forward Milena Tomova (189-82, college: FIU) who led the winners and scored 19 points and 9 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Swingman Katya Kordova (179-86) accounted for 18 points and 5 steals for the winning side. Four Montana 2003 players scored in double figures. American power forward Anne Farrell (187-88, college: Centenary, LA, agency: Global Sports Plaza) came up with 16 points and 6 rebounds and Yana Kozhuharova (183-93) added 9 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Rilski Sportist in the defeat. Montana 2003 (NBL) landed 25-year old former international forward Tsvetomira Sharenkapova (184-91). She has played for the last six years at Dunav 8806 Ruse (NBL). Montana 2003 (NBL) signed 27-year old Bulgarian ex-international forward Hristina Ivanova (183-89). It is actually her comeback to Montana 2003 as she played here before. Ivanova played last season at Cestistica Orvieto in Italian Serie A1, but left the team in Dec.'15. In 9 games she had 5.3ppg and 2.6rpg. Mann Filter Zaragoza (LFB) re-signed 28-year old Bulgarian ex-international power forward Jaklin Zlatanova (190-88). She played there last season.
