James Tyler claims Bulgarian NBL weekly honour - Jan 13, 2013

James Tyler
American James Tyler (218-C-88) put on an amazing game in the last round for Chernomorets and that's him to receive a Player of the Week award for round 12.
The 24-year old center had a double-double of 28 points and fifteen rebounds, while his team crushed, the league's bottom-ranked team U20 (#10, 0-12) with 21-point margin 91-70. Chernomorets is placed at 8th position in Bulgarian NBL. Chernomorets is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 4-7 record. Tyler turned to be Chernomorets' top player in his first season with the team. Tyler has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (2nd best: 18.9ppg) and averages solid 2.8bpg and 67.5% FGP. Worth to mention Tyler played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 27-year old former international center Nikolay Varbanov (210-C-85, agency: Interperformances) of second-ranked Levski Sofia. Varbanov impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds. Of course Levski Sofia cruised to a 85-78 relatively comfortable win over slightly higher-ranked Lukoil Academik (10-2). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Levski Sofia consolidated its place in top 2 of the standings. His team lost just two games this season, while they won 10 matches. Varbanov is a newcomer at Levski Sofia and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was international Martin Durchev (204-SF-87) of Tundja Yambol (#4). Durchev showcased his all-around game by recording 18 points, five rebounds and nine assists in the last round. He was a key player of Tundja Yambol, leading his team to a 88-71 easy win against the lower-ranked Beroe (#7, 4-7). Tundja Yambol needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 7 victories and 5 lost games. Durchev has a great season in Bulgaria. After 12 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 18.7ppg (3rd best) and assists with 4.4apg (7th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Branko Mirkovic (190-G-82) of Rilski Sportist - 18 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists
5. Ivo Slavchev (198-F-90) of Chernomorets - 15 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Hristo Zahariev (197-SG-90) of Rilski Sportist - 24 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Braxton Dupree (203-F-89) of Rilski Sportist - 16 points, 14 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Nemanja Milosevic (204-F/C-87) of Tundja Yambol - 19 points and 9 rebounds
9. Terry Smith (185-PG-86) of Rilski Sportist - 21 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Atanas Radev (200-F-81) of Beroe - 20 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
