Bulgarian NBL round 14 best performance: Jordan Bozov - Jan 27, 2013

Yordan Bozov
Former international guard Jordan Bozov (191-G-79, agency: Global Sports Plaza) had a great game in the last round for Balkan, receiving a Player of the Week award for round 14.
The 33-year old player was the main contributor (28 points, four rebounds and six assists) to his team's victory, helping them to edge out Chernomorets (#8, 4-9) 96-95. Balkan maintains the 4th position in Bulgarian NBL. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Balkan will need more victories to improve their 9-5 record. In the team's last game Bozov had a remarkable 71.4% from 2-point range. He turned to be Balkan's top player in his first season with the team. Jordan Bozov averages this season 13.8ppg.

The second best player in last round's games was 26-year old former international point guard Asen Velikov (185-PG-86) of Cherno More. Velikov had a very good evening with a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds. It was enough for Cherno More to edge the lower-ranked Spartak Pleven (#9, 4-10) 82-79. Cherno More's 6th position in the standings has not changed. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 6-7 record. Velikov is a newcomer at Cherno More, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 15.7ppg (#9). His other stats are also decent: 5.7rpg and 4.5apg.

Third on the list of top players last round was American center James Tyler (218-C-88) of Chernomorets (#8). Tyler scored 22 points and grabbed fourteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Tyler's great performance Chernomorets lost 95-96 to the higher-ranked Balkan (#4, 9-5). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Chernomorets not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 9 games, recording just four victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Tyler could try to bring Chernomorets' a little bit higher in the standings. Tyler has individually a great season in Bulgaria. After 13 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 19.1ppg (2nd best) and rebounds with 14.0rpg (#1 in league). He also has 3.4bpg and FGP: 66.4%. Tyler attended one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Branko Mirkovic (190-G-82) of Rilski Sportist - 32 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists
5. Will Walker (183-G) of Beroe - 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists
6. Stefan Georgiev (206-C/F-78) of Levski Sofia - 19 points and 10 rebounds
7. Dimitar Marintchechki (201-F/C-90) of Spartak Pleven - 30 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Konstantin Koev (195-F-91) of Chernomorets - 22 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists
9. Darryl Watkins (211-C-84) of Lukoil Academik - 19 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Atila Santos (208-C-83) of Balkan - 15 points and 12 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
