We bring you last week's top performances from Bulgarians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is former international guard Earl Calloway (191-83, college: Indiana, currently plays in Spain). He led Unicaja Malaga to a victory over the league outsider Lagun Aro GBC (3-17) 74-70 in the Spanish ACB in Sunday night's game. Calloway was MVP of the game. He scored 19 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 30 minutes on the court. Unicaja Malaga (9-11) is placed tenth in the ACB. It was his team's first victory after five consecutive loses. It's Calloway's first season with the team. This year Calloway averages: 7.2ppg, 3.2rpg, 1.9apg, 1.2spg, 2FGP: 49.0%, 3FGP: 27.9% and FT: 85.2% in the 20 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Calloway played for the Bulgarian senior national team three years ago. Strangely he has never played in Bulgaria.

   #2. Second place goes to former international guard Earl Rowland (188-83, college: St.Mary's, CA, currently plays in Eurocup). Rowland was the major contributor in a VEF Riga's victory against the fourth-ranked CEZ Nymburk (1-3) crushing them 81-59 in the Eurocup last Wednesday. He recorded 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. VEF Riga (3-1) is placed first in group J. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Eurocup Top 16. So now every game will be critical. Rowland has relatively good stats this season: 14.5ppg, 4.2rpg, 4.7apg, 1.2spg, 2FGP: 51.4%, 3FGP: 44.1% and FT: 72.7%. He is a naturalized American. Rowland played for the Bulgarian national team in 2011. Apparently he has never played in Bulgaria.

   #3. The Bulgarian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Cedric Simmons (206-86, college: N.Carolina St., currently plays in Italy). Simmons contributed to a Enel Brindisi's victory against the third-ranked Montepaschi Siena (13-5) 94-84 in the Italian SerieA on Monday night. He had a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 10 rebounds in 31 minutes. Enel Brindisi (9-9) is placed eighth in the SerieA. This year Simmons' overall stats are: 7.9ppg, 6.3rpg, 1.3bpg, 2FGP: 58.8%(60-102) and FT: 71.9% in the 18 games. He is a naturalized American. Simmons is also a member of the Bulgarian senior national team. Interesting that he has never played in Bulgaria.

Power forward Dejan Ivanov (205-86, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in VTB United League) helped his Lithuanian team Lietuvos rytas win their game against the closely-ranked BC Astana (7-6) crushing them 93-60 in the VTB United League last Sunday. He recorded 10 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 20 minutes. Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius (7-6) is placed fifth in group A. This year Ivanov's total stats are: 8.4ppg and 5.8rpg in the 11 games. He used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2011.

Former international center Jared Homan (206-83, college: Iowa St., currently plays in Germany) helped Bayern Muenchen win their game against the 16th-ranked Deutsche Bank Skyliners (6-14) 79-72 in the German BBL on Saturday night. Homan scored 16 points, had 5 rebounds and made 2 blocks. FC Bayern Muenchen (14-7) is placed third in the BBL. This season Homan has relatively solid stats: 10.4ppg, 5.9rpg, 1.2apg and 1.1bpg. He is a naturalized American. Homan used to play for the Bulgarian national team three years ago. However he has never played in Bulgaria.

Power forward Hristo Nikolov (200-85, currently plays in Romania) helped U-Mobitelco win their game against the closely-ranked Ploiesti (13-7) 97-88 in the Romanian Liga Nationala last Saturday. Nikolov scored 20 points. CS U-Mobitelco Cluj Napoca (14-6) is placed third in the Liga Nationala. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. Nikolov has reliable stats this season: 14.7ppg, 4.1rpg, 2.6apg and 1.7spg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Bulgarian National Team roster.

An experienced former international guard Roderick Blakney (184-76, college: S.Carolina St., currently plays in Spain), who plays in the Spanish ACB could not help Cajasol (7-13) in their last game. Despite Blakney's good performance Cajasol lost 68-77 on the road to the higher-ranked (#13) CB Canarias. He scored 13 points in a mere 15 minutes. Blakney has averaged so far 6.4ppg and 2.0apg in the nine games. He is a naturalized American. Blakney used to play for the Bulgarian national team six years ago.

Guard Andre Owens (193-80, college: Houston, currently plays in Cyprus) helped Keravnos win their game against the sixth-ranked AEL (6-11) crushing them 70-46 in the Cypriot Division A in Wednesday night's game. Owens recorded 13 points and added 5 passes. Keravnos Strovolou (14-3) is placed first in the Division A. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Owens has averaged so far 8.3ppg, 3.5rpg, 1.8apg and 1.1spg. He is a naturalized American. Owens used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2009. He played also for Lukoil Academik Sofia in Bulgarian league.

International small forward Filip Videnov (196-80, agency: Alti Sport, college: W.Kentucky, currently plays in Turkey), who plays in the Turkish TBL was not able to help Olin Edirne (3-14) in their last game. Despite his good performance the bottom-ranked Olin Edirne was edged 69-67 at home by the second-ranked Banvit BK. Videnov scored 12 points and added 5 assists in 34 minutes. It was Olin Edirne's eighth consecutive loss in a row. Videnov has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.5ppg, 2.5rpg and 2.5apg in the two games. Videnov is also in the roster of the Bulgarian national team.

   #10. Shooting guard Ivan Lilov (196-88, currently plays in EuroChallenge) was not able to secure a victory for Gaz Metan (1-2) in their game against Ventspils (1-2) in the EuroChallenge. He scored 8 points. The fourth-placed Gaz Metan was crushed 96-64 on the opponent's court by the second-ranked Ventspils in the group I of EuroChallenge. There are only three games left until the end of the EuroChallenge Top 16. So now every game will be important. Lilov's stats this season are: 10.7ppg, 1.3rpg, 1.7apg and 1.3spg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Bulgarian National Team roster.

   #11. Former international guard Aleksandar Gruev (187-83, agency: Global Sports Plaza, currently plays in Romania) helped CSU Sibiu win their game against the league outsider CS Dinamo Bucuresti crushing them 110-46 in the Romanian Liga Nationala on Saturday night. Gruev scored 12 points, made 8 passes and 4 steals in 24 minutes. Gruev belongs to league's best passers and is ranked #7 with 4.8apg. This year his other stats are: 13.5ppg and 2.6rpg in the 18 games. Gruev used to play for the Bulgarian national team two years ago.

   #12. International forward Aleksandar Georgiev (203-90, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Assignia Manresa in their game against Regal FC Barcelona in the Spanish ACB. He scored 7 points in 16 minutes. His team lost 76-88. Georgiev has averaged so far 5.0ppg and 2.1rpg in the 20 games. He is also in the roster of the Bulgarian national team.

   #13. Former U20 international guard Georgi Sirakov (186-92, also represented by Interperformances, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help Mazzeo San Severo in their game against Casalpusterlengo in the Italian Nazionale A (third division). He cannot count Wednesday's game as one of the best ones. Sirakov recorded only 3 points in 17 minutes. His team lost 63-69. This year he averages just 7.7ppg in the 21 games. Sirakov used to play for the Bulgarian U20 national team two years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Bulgarian passport but never been selected to any of Bulgarian national teams:

   #1. Experienced Willie Deane (188-PG-80, agency: Higher Vision Sports, college: Purdue, currently plays in Ukraine), who plays in the Ukrainian Superleague could not help one of league's weakest teams Khimik (15-12) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Deane's good performance Khimik was defeated 80-72 on the road by the higher-ranked Halychyna (#4). He recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and making 14 passes. Deane also added 7 rebounds. This season Deane has relatively solid stats: 11.4ppg, 3.2rpg and 6.0apg. He is a naturalized American. Deane used to play for PBC Lukoil Akademik Sophia in Bulgarian league.

   #2. Pero Antic (210-F-82, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in Euroleague) managed to help Olympiacos S.F.P. Pireus in a victory against the seventh-ranked Fenerbahce Ulker (1-5) 82-71 in the Euroleague in Thursday night's game. Antic scored only 4 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 15 minutes. Olympiacos S.F.P. Pireus (3-3) is placed fifth in group F. Antic has averaged so far 5.5ppg and 3.6rpg in the 16 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: FYR Macedonian and Bulgarian.

   #3. Kee Kee Clark (180-PG-84, college: St.Peter's, currently plays in Italy) contributed to a 3-point Umana Venezia's victory against one of league's weakest teams VL Pesaro (4-14) 71-68 in the Italian SerieA last Sunday. Clark scored 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 27 minutes. Umana Reyer Venezia (10-8) is placed seventh in the SerieA. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Clark's stats this year are: 13.1ppg, 2.3rpg and 2.1apg in the 14 games. He is a naturalized American.

   #4. Dimitar Karadzovski (190-G-84, agency: Global Sports Plaza, currently plays in Balkan League) led his FYR Macedonian team Kozuv to a victory against the fourth-ranked Mornar Bar (0-2) 72-64 in the Balkan League on Tuesday night. He recorded 13 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Kozuv Gevgelija (2-0) is placed first in group D. There are only three games left until the end of the Balkan League Second Stage. So now every game will be critical. Karadzovski is currently seventh on the list of best passers. He has averaged so far 9.4ppg, 3.0rpg, 3.6apg and 1.1spg. Karadzovski is another player who holds two passports: Bulgarian and FYR Macedonian.

   #5. Galin Mihaylov (189-G-80, currently plays in Norway) was the major contributor in Tromso's victory against the fifth-ranked Gimle BBK (9-13) 75-65 in the Norwegian BLNO in Saturday night's game. He recorded 19 points and had 3 steals. Tromso Storm (15-4) is placed first in the BLNO. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. Mihaylov is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his seventh year in Tromso's roster. Mihaylov has averaged so far 9.4ppg, 1.6rpg and 2.8apg.

   #6. Viktor Vladov (202-F-91, currently plays in Germany) contributed to Leitershofen's victory against the fourth-ranked Noerdlingen 96-92 in the German ProB (third division) on Saturday night. Vladov scored only 3 points. He has averaged so far 3.0ppg and 1.7rpg. Vladov has both Bulgarian and German nationalities.

26-year old point guard Oscar Bellfield (187-PG-90) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for second-ranked Akademik PL and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 23. He got a double-double of 27 points and 11 assists, while his team edged out Levski (#9, 4-17) 106-105. Akademik PL maintains the 2nd position in Bulgarian league.
