Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Bulgarians who are currently playing abroad.


Noelle Quinn

   #1. This week's number one is former international guard Noelle Quinn (183-85, college: UCLA, currently plays in France), who plays in the French LFB. She could not help Mondeville (7-11) in their last game. Despite Quinn's very good performance Mondeville lost 58-69 on the road to the lower-ranked (#10) Charleville-Mezieres. She was the top scorer with 16 points. Quinn also added 4 rebounds in 32 minutes on the court. It was Mondeville's third consecutive loss in a row. It's Quinn's first season with the team. She has relatively good stats this year: 12.0ppg, 4.0rpg, 1.3apg, 2FGP: 56.7%(17-30), 3FGP: 21.4% and FT: 71.4% in the four games she played so far. Quinn is a naturalized American. She played for the Bulgarian senior national team four years ago. Strangely Quinn has never played in Bulgaria.

Evelina Guneva

   #2. Second place goes to an experienced former international forward Evelina Guneva (183-80, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Spain). She was the major contributor in Gernika's victory against the eighth-ranked ASEFA Estudiantes (6-8) crushing them 78-55 in the Spanish LF2 (12th division) last Saturday. Guneva scored 20 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Gernika KESB (7-7) is placed sixth in Group B. This season Guneva has relatively solid stats: 12.1ppg, 6.6rpg, 1.5apg, 2FGP: 39.5%, 3FGP: 15.2% and FT: 55.6%. She played for the Bulgarian national team in 2006.

   #3. The Bulgarian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international forward Roksana Yordanova (184-84, currently plays in Italy). Yordanova led San Salvatore to a victory over the tenth-ranked Muggia (7-12) 65-54 in the Italian A2 (12th division) on Saturday night. She was MVP of the game. Yordanova recorded 17 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 40 minutes. Basket San Salvatore (8-11) is placed ninth in North group. They ended the series of four consecutive loses. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Yordanova has reliable stats this year: 13.9ppg, 5.7rpg, 1.2apg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 46.1%, 3FGP: 33.7% and FT: 64.6% in the 19 games. She played for the Bulgarian national team two years ago.

Doneeka Hodges-Lewis

   #4. Point guard Doneeka Hodges-Lewis (175-82, agency: LBM Management, college: LSU, currently plays in Turkey), who plays in the Turkish TKBL was not able to help Canik Bld (6-10) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Hodges-Lewis' very good performance Canik Bld was defeated 83-70 in Mersin by the much higher-ranked Tarsus Bld (#4). She was the second best scorer with 15 points. Hodges-Lewis' stats this season are: 14.8ppg, 3.5rpg, 3.5apg and 1.4spg. She is a naturalized American. Hodges-Lewis used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2011. Apparently she has never played in Bulgaria.

   #5. International swingman Daniela Georgieva (184-86, currently plays in Italy) contributed to Marghera's victory against the eighth-ranked Alghero (9-10) 64-57 in the Italian A2 (12th division) last Wednesday. Georgieva scored 11 points, had 4 boards, dished 5 assists and stole 4 balls in 36 minutes. It was his first game for Marghera this season. Her team is placed sixth in North group. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Georgieva plays currently for the Bulgarian national team.

   #6. Center Stefka Miteva (190-89, currently plays in Belgium), who plays in the Belgian Division I was not able to secure a victory for Blue Cats (2-14) in their last game on Saturday. Despite her good performance Blue Cats was crushed 74-53 at home by the second-ranked Belfius Namur. Miteva scored 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Miteva belongs to league's best rebounders (ranked #7) and also on the list of best blockers (fifth place). Her overall stats this season are: 8.5ppg and 7.7rpg. Miteva is an international player who is currently on the senior Bulgarian National Team roster.

   #7. International guard Marieta Karchovska (171-86, currently plays in Sweden) couldn't help Visby Ladies (4-14) in their game against Solna Vikings (13-7) in the Swedish Damligan, despite her very good performance in Monday night's game. She scored 14 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 29 minutes. But Visby Ladies was edged 70-67 in Solna by the much higher-ranked (#4) Vikings. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Karchovska's stats this year are: 10.5ppg, 5.0rpg and 2.5apg in the two games. She is also Bulgarian national team player.

   #8. Guard Ekaterina Dimitrova (182-87, currently plays in France) faced previously mentioned Noelle Quinn in the French LFB last game. Dimitrova managed to help Flammes Carolo Basket Ardennes ASPTT in a victory against the closely-ranked Mondeville (7-11) 69-58. She scored only 2 points in 14 minutes. This year Dimitrova averages: 5.5ppg, 2.1rpg, 1.6apg and 1.8spg in the 18 games. She used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2011.

   #9. Former U20 international guard Gergana Georgieva (180-87, currently plays in Germany) contributed to a 1-point ASC Theresianum Mainz's victory against the sixth-ranked Baskets Grunberg (8-7) 56-55 in the German 2.Bundesliga (12th division) in Saturday night's game. Georgieva scored only 2 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. ASC Theresianum Mainz (9-6) is placed third in North group. Georgieva is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's her sixth year in ASC Theresianum Mainz's roster. She averaged so far 13.0ppg, 9.4rpg, 1.5apg and 1.6spg. Georgieva used to play for the Bulgarian U20 national team six years ago.

Aleksandra Delcheva

   #10. Center Aleksandra Delcheva (202-87, agency: Promotex, currently plays in Czech Republic) contributed to a DSK Karlin's surprising victory against the fifth-ranked Kara Trutnov (11-10) 85-79 in the Czech Republic ZBL last Saturday. She scored only 2 points in 8 minutes on the court. DSK Basketball Karlin (4-17) is placed second from the bottom (#11) in the ZBL. It was DSK Karlin's first victory after six consecutive loses. Delcheva's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. This year Delcheva's overall stats are: 3.0ppg and 3.4rpg in the 21 games. She is an international player who is currently on the senior Bulgarian National Team roster.


One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Bulgarian passport:

   #1. Dayana Gechkova (173-G, currently plays in Canada) contributed to an easy victory against the Laurentian (9-8) 64-47 in the Canadian university league CIS last Saturday. Gechkova recorded 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. The Ryerson College has a very solid 14-2 record this season. It was her team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Gechkova has been at the team for four years. Her overall stats this season are: 6.6ppg, 3.7rpg and 1.3apg.

CS Municipal Satu Mare (Liga I) agreed terms with 27-year old American forward Chastity Reed (185-89, college: UALR). She played last season at Beroe in Bulgarian NBL league. Reed managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year. In 11 NBL games she had 9.5ppg, 6.3rpg, 2.0apg and 1.0spg. She helped them to make it to the cup final. Reed also played that season for Flying Foxes in Austrian league where in two Eurocup games she was third best scorer with 12.5ppg and averaged 10.0...   [read more]

Haskovo 2012 (NBL) landed 31-year old American swingman Amber Holt (183-77kg-85, college: Middle Tennessee State). The last time (14) she played at Atenienses in Puerto Rican BSNF In 2008 Holt was drafted by Connecticut Sun (WNBA) in first round (9th overall). She attended Middle Tennessee State and it will be her ninth season in pro basketball. Among other achievements Holt won Hungarian League championship title in 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2014. Chelsey Lee agreed terms with Haskovo 2012 - 1 month ago

Haskovo 2012 (NBL) inked 27-year old American center Chelsey Lee (193-89, college: Rutgers). She played in the summer at Washington Mystics (WNBA). The last season Lee played at Hanabank in South Korean WKBL where in 41 games she recorded 14.9ppg, 10.5rpg (leader !!!), 1.1spg and 1.1bpg. She played in the final of WKBL. Lee has played previously professionally in Romania (Galati) and Spain (CREF Hola). She attended Rutgers, The State University until 2013 and it will be her fourth season...   [read more]
