Division A Round 9: Spartak MVR loses #1 position - Feb 11, 2013

Coincidentally all hosts won their games.

Round 9 in Division A means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Stara Zagora where host Thrace Univ. (6-3) beat league's leader Spartak MVR (7-2) 75-71 on Sunday evening. Thrace Univ. have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Academik BL. Spartak MVR at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still keeps top position with two games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by UE Varna who have the same record. Spartak MVR will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Thrace Univ. will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Chavdar in Troyan.
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked UE Varna as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Spartak MVR) loss. UE Varna smashed 7th ranked Chavdar at home 74-54. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Spartak MVR. Chavdar at the other side keeps the seventh place with seven games lost. Chavdar will play next round against strong Thrace Univ. trying to get back on the winning streak. UE Varna will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Academic Blagoevgrad on the road.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Academic Blagoevgrad (6-3) against fifth ranked Academik Plovdiv (4-5) on Sunday night. Visiting Academic Blagoevgrad was crushed by Academik Plovdiv in Plovdiv 91-60. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Academic Blagoevgrad. Academik Plovdiv maintains fifth place with 4-5 record. Loser Academic Blagoevgrad keeps the third position with three games lost. They share it with Thrace Univ.. Academik Plovdiv will meet bottom-ranked Vidabasket (#8) on the road in the next round. Academic Blagoevgrad will play against the league's leader UE Varna (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 9 bottom-ranked Vidabasket was defeated by Dunav 2007 in Ruse 88-70.

There was no surprise in Ruse where 8th ranked Vidabasket (1-8) was defeated by sixth ranked Dunav 2007 (3-6) 88-70 on Sunday. Dunav 2007 maintains sixth place with 3-6 record. Vidabasket lost seventh consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Dunav 2007's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Ruse Dunav 2007.

LNB newcomer Morges-Saint-Prex BBC added to their roster 33-year old FYR Macedonian-Bulgarian power forward Tomcho Sokolov (205-105kg-84). He played most recently at KK Strumica in FYR Macedonian Prva Liga. In 13 games he recorded 10.0ppg and 4.8rpg in 2015-16 season. Sokolov also played that season for Kozuv (also in Prva Liga) where in 11 games he averaged 3.0ppg and 3.4rpg. He also played 6 games in Balkan League where he had just 2.7ppg and 2.2rpg. Beroe - Lukoil Academic 86-85 Beroe overcame Lukoil Academic 86-85 in SuperCup 2017.
