We bring you last week's top performances from Bulgarians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international swingman Daniela Georgieva (184-86, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian A2 (12th division). She could not help Marghera (11-9) in their last game. Despite Georgieva's very good performance the sixth-placed Marghera was edged 70-69 at home by the lower-ranked (#12) Virtus Cagliari in the North group. She was the top scorer with 23 points. Georgieva also added 7 boards, dished 4 assists and stole 3 balls in 36 minutes on the court. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Georgieva has individually a very good year with high stats. She averages: 17.0ppg, 5.5rpg, 4.5apg, 3.5spg, 3FGP: 18.2% and FT: 63.6% in the two games she played so far. Georgieva is currently a member of the Bulgarian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to former international point guard Doneeka Hodges-Lewis (175-82, agency: LBM Management, college: LSU, currently plays in Turkey), who plays in the Turkish TKBL. She was not able to help Canik Bld (6-11) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Hodges-Lewis' good performance Canik Bld was defeated 80-74 on their home court in Samsun by the higher-ranked Ceyhan Bld (#6). She scored 12 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 8 assists. Hodges-Lewis has relatively good stats this season: 14.6ppg, 3.5rpg, 3.8apg, 1.4spg, 2FGP: 39.0%, 3FGP: 41.0% and FT: 75.0%. She is a naturalized American. Hodges-Lewis played for the Bulgarian national team in 2011. Strangely she has never played in Bulgaria.

   #3. The Bulgarian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international guard Noelle Quinn (183-85, college: UCLA, currently plays in France). Quinn managed to help USO Mondeville in a 2-point victoryagainst the closely-ranked Nantes Reze (9-10) 68-66 in the French LFB on Saturday night. She recorded only 4 points and added 7 assists in 24 minutes. USO Mondeville (8-11) is placed eighth in the LFB. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. This year Quinn has relatively solid stats: 10.4ppg, 3.8rpg, 2.4apg, 3FGP: 21.4% and FT: 71.4% in the five games. She is a naturalized American. Quinn played for the Bulgarian national team four years ago. Apparently she has never played in Bulgaria.

   #4. Center Stefka Miteva (190-89, currently plays in Belgium) led Blue Cats to a 1-point victory against the closely-ranked R.Spirou Monceau (5-12) 74-73 in the Belgian Division I in Sunday night's game. Miteva scored 12 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Crack Blue Cats Ieper (3-14) is placed second from the bottom (#11) in the Division I. It was Blue Cats' first victory after six consecutive loses. It's Miteva's first season with the team. Miteva is currently fifth on the league's list of best rebounders. Her overall stats this season are: 8.8ppg and 7.8rpg. Miteva is also Bulgarian national team player.

   #5. Former international forward Roksana Yordanova (184-84, currently plays in Italy) was not able to secure a victory for San Salvatore (8-12) in their game against Umana Reyer (19-1) in the Italian A2 (12th division). She scored 9 points and added 3 passes in 40 minutes. But San Salvatore (#9) lost 57-65 on their home court in San Salvatore to the leading Umana Reyer in the North group. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Yordanova has reliable stats this year: 13.7ppg, 5.6rpg, 1.3apg and 1.3spg in the 20 games. She used to play for the Bulgarian national team two years ago.

   #6. Guard Marieta Karchovska (171-86, currently plays in Sweden), who plays in the Swedish Damligan couldn't help Visby Ladies (6-15) in their last game on Monday. Despite Karchovska's good performance Visby Ladies was edged 70-67 on the road by the much higher-ranked Solna Vikings (#4). She scored 14 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Karchovska's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is quite important. Karchovska's overall stats this season are: 6.4ppg, 3.4rpg and 2.2apg. She is an international player who is currently on the senior Bulgarian National Team roster.

   #7. An experienced former international forward Evelina Guneva (183-80, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Gernika (7-8) in their game against Fundal Alcobendas (7-8) in the Spanish LF2 (12th division). Guneva cannot count it as her best performance. She scored only 3 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 23 minutes. Gernika (#6) lost 65-79 in Alcobendas to the lower-ranked (#7) Fundal in the Group B. Guneva's stats this year are: 11.5ppg, 6.6rpg and 1.4apg in the 15 games. She used to play for the Bulgarian national team seven years ago.

   #8. Guard Ekaterina Dimitrova (182-87, currently plays in France) couldn't help Charleville-Mezieres (7-12) in their game against Lattes Montpellier (16-3) in the French LFB. Dimitrova cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. She recorded only 2 points. Charleville-Mezieres was badly defeated 80-64 in Lattes by the leading Montpellier. Dimitrova's overall stats this season are: 5.3ppg, 2.1rpg, 1.6apg and 1.7spg. She used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2011.

The list of other players, who all have Bulgarian passport but never been selected to any of Bulgarian national teams:

   #1. Ana Petrova (170-F-82, currently plays in Luxembourg) led Etzella to an easy victory against the fifth-ranked T71 Dudelange (6-10) crushing them 102-76 in the Luxembourg Diekirch League on Friday night. Petrova scored 13 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 23 minutes. Etzella Ettelbruck (14-2) is placed second in Places 1-6 group. It was her team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. This year Petrova's overall stats are: 9.2ppg, 3.6rpg, 2.5apg and 1.9spg in the 15 games she played so far. She has a dual citizenship: Bulgarian and Luxembourg.

   #2. Dayana Gechkova (173-G, currently plays in Canada), who plays in the Canadian university league CIS could not help the Ryerson College (14-4) to beat the Ottawa (15-4). Gechkova cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. She recorded only 2 points. The Ryerson College (#3) was defeated 65-57 on the road by the Ottawa. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Gechkova has been at the team for four years. Gechkova's overall stats this season are: 6.0ppg, 3.4rpg and 1.2apg.

Antonia Filipova claims Bulgarian NBL weekly honour - 6 days ago
Talented Antonia Filipova (180-SF-98) had an amazing evening in the last round for Slavia and that's her to receive a Player of the Week award for round 1. The 19-year old had the game-high 19 points adding seven rebounds and three assists for Slavia in her team's victory, helping them to crush, the league's bottom-ranked team NSA (#5, 0-1) with 19-point margin 65-46. The Regular Season in NBL just started. Beroe smashed Rilski Sportist in Stara Zagora 69-40. Beroe dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Rilski Sportist's 28. Beroe forced 25 Rilski Sportist turnovers and outrebounded them 45-26 including 30 on the defensive glass. International point guard Gergana Ivanova (177-99) fired 13 points and 6 assists for the winners. International forward Gabriela Nikolova (183-97) chipped in 9 points and 7 rebou...   [read more]
