The Regular Season in NBL just ended.

NBL top team - Lukoil Academik (16-2) had no problems winning another game on Friday. This time they crushed tenth ranked U20 (0-18) in Sofia 92-55. The game without a history. Lukoil Academik led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to U20's 32. They outrebounded U20 45-26 including a 35-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Lukoil Academik looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by U20's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Lukoil Academik made 8 blocks. Greek power forward Dimitris Haritopoulos (205-83, agency: Interperformances) had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international point guard Bozhidar Avramov (196-90, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 18 points and 5 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was naturalized Cypriot point guard Angel Natskin (186-93) with 14 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Lukoil Academik have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 16-2 record. Newly promoted U20 still closes the standings.
The game in Burgas was also worth to mention about. Second ranked Levski Sofia (15-3) played at the court of 8th ranked Chernomorets (6-12). Levski Sofia defeated Chernomorets 85-72. International Chavdar Kostov (195-88, agency: Interperformances) notched 16 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and Nikolay Varbanov supported him with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Even 22 points by Bogdan Boev (196-82) did not help to save the game for Chernomorets. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Levski Sofia have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 15-3 record behind leader Lukoil Academik. Chernomorets at the other side keeps the eighth place with 12 games lost.
The game in Stara Zagora was also quite interesting. Third ranked Rilski Sportist (13-5) played at the court of 7th ranked Beroe (7-11). Rilski Sportist defeated Beroe 100-85 on Friday. The best player for the winners was Hristo Zahariev who had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was Reginald Holmes who recorded 32 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Rilski Sportist maintains third position with 13-5 record having just three points less than leader Lukoil Academik. Newly promoted Beroe dropped to the sixth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Cherno More.

In the last two games of round 18 Cherno More lost to Tundja Yambol on the opponent's court 71-84. Balkan managed to outperform Spartak Pleven in a home game 90-81.



Tundja Yambol - Cherno More 84-71

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 6th ranked Euroins Cherno More's (7-11) road loss to fifth ranked Tundja Yambol (10-8) 71-84 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Tundja Yambol. Euroins Cherno More managed to win fourth quarter 23-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Euroins Cherno More 40-28 including a 32-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Montenegrin power forward Nemanja Milosevic (204-87, college: W.Kentucky, agency: Interperformances) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds. American forward Brian Ormon (201-84, college: Mountain St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was international Tihomir Zhelev (193-90) who recorded 12 points and Greek center Giorgos Galiotos (213-86, agency: Interperformances) added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Four Tundja Yambol and five Euroins Cherno More players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Tundja Yambol maintains fifth position with 10-8 record. Loser Euroins Cherno More keeps the sixth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Beroe.

Chernomorets - Levski Sofia 72-85

The game in Burgas was also worth to mention about. Second ranked Levski Sofia (15-3) played at the court of 8th ranked Chernomorets (6-12). Levski Sofia defeated Chernomorets 85-72. Chernomorets was ahead by 4 points at the halftime before a 42-25 second half run of Levski Sofia. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Chernomorets' 36. Levski Sofia forced 19 Chernomorets turnovers. Chernomorets was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. International Chavdar Kostov (195-88, agency: Interperformances) notched 16 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international center Nikolay Varbanov (210-85, agency: Interperformances) supported him with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Four Levski Sofia players scored in double figures. Even 22 points by Bogdan Boev (196-82) did not help to save the game for Chernomorets. Serbian guard Petar Rakovic (190-89) added 17 points and 6 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The game in Stara Zagora was also quite interesting. Third ranked Rilski Sportist (13-5) played at the court of 7th ranked Beroe (7-11). Rilski Sportist defeated Beroe 100-85 on Friday. The guests trailed by 12 points after first quarter, but they stormed back and won the game by 15 points. Rilski Sportist made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was international Hristo Zahariev (197-90) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). American forward Angelo Caloiaro (203-89, college: USF) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Four Rilski Sportist players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Reginald Holmes (193-87, college: Morgan St.) who recorded 32 points and his fellow American import guard Will Walker (183-87, college: De Paul) added 16 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Rilski Sportist maintains third position with 13-5 record having just three points less than leader Lukoil Academik. Very predictable result in Botevgrad where fourth ranked Balkan (12-6) defeated 9th ranked Spartak Pleven (4-14) 90-81 on Friday. Balkan made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Spartak Pleven turnovers. The best player for the winners was international guard Stanimir Marinov (191-91) who scored 19 points and 5 assists. The former international guard Jordan Bozov (191-79, agency: Global Sports Plaza) chipped in 16 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Dimitar Marintchechki (201-90, agency: Dynamics Global Management) who recorded a double-double by scoring 32 points and 11 rebounds and forward Veselin Georgiev (196-86) added 13 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Five Balkan and four Spartak Pleven players scored in double figures. Balkan maintains fourth position with 12-6 record. Spartak Pleven lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 14 games lost.
