We bring you last week's top performances from Bulgarians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is former international guard Earl Rowland (188-83, college: St.Mary's, CA, currently plays in VTB United League), who plays in Latvia. He could not help VEF Riga (10-7) in their last game. Despite Rowland's very good performance the fourth-placed VEF Riga was edged 89-87 at home by the lower-ranked (#5) BC Nizhny Novgorod in the group B of VTB United League. He was the top scorer with 29 points. Rowland also added 7 rebounds and dished 3 assists (was perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line) in 31 minutes on the court. His team will play only one more game in the VTB United League Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Rowland is currently first on the league's list of top scorers and also on the list of best passers (third place). He has individually a very good year with high stats. Rowland averages: 17.4ppg, 5.8rpg, 5.9apg, 2.1spg, 2FGP: 56.5%(95-168), 3FGP: 29.4% and FT: 83.6% in the 17 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Rowland played for the Bulgarian senior national team two years ago. Strangely he has never played in Bulgaria.

   #2. Second place goes to former international guard Earl Calloway (191-83, college: Indiana, currently plays in Spain). Calloway was the major contributor in an Unicaja Malaga's victory against the league outsider Assignia Manresa (4-20) 80-63 in the Spanish ACB on Sunday night. He scored 13 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 23 minutes. Unicaja Malaga (12-12) is placed 11th in the ACB. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. It's Calloway's first season with the team. This year Calloway's overall stats are: 7.1ppg, 3.4rpg, 2.2apg, 1.2spg, 3FGP: 28.2% and FT: 82.8% in the 24 games. He is a naturalized American. Calloway played for the Bulgarian national team in 2010. Apparently he has never played in Bulgaria.

   #3. The Bulgarian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international power forward Dejan Ivanov (205-86, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in VTB United League). He was not able to help Lietuvos rytas (8-9) in their game against Khimky (13-4) in the VTB United League. Ivanov recorded 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Lietuvos rytas (#7) was defeated 88-79 on their home court in Vilnius by the leading Khimky in the group A of VTB United League. It was Lietuvos rytas' third consecutive loss in a row. His team will play only one more game in the VTB United League Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. Ivanov's total stats this season are: 8.9ppg, 6.3rpg, 2FGP: 61.1%(44-72) and FT: 67.8%. He played for the Bulgarian national team two years ago.

Forward Kaloyan Ivanov (205-86, currently plays in Italy) led Air Avellino to a victory against the second-ranked Banco di Sardegna Sassari (17-5) 86-78 in the Italian SerieA in Sunday night's game. Ivanov had a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added and 3 steals in 31 minutes. Sidigas Avellino (7-14) is placed 12th in the SerieA. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Ivanov has relatively good stats this year: 12.8ppg, 9.6rpg and 1.9spg in the nine games. He used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2011.

International shooting guard Ivan Lilov (196-88, currently plays in Romania) contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Miercurea Ciuc (3-23) crushing them 99-59 in the Romanian Liga Nationala on Saturday night. Lilov scored 11 points, made 4 passes and 3 steals in 34 minutes. CS Gaz Metan Medias (18-8) is placed fifth in the Liga Nationala. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. This year Lilov's total stats are: 9.4ppg, 3.4rpg, 2.3apg and 1.6spg in the 11 games. He plays currently for the Bulgarian national team.

An experienced small forward Filip Videnov (196-80, agency: Alti Sport, college: W.Kentucky, currently plays in Turkey), who plays in the Turkish TBL was not able to secure a victory for Olin Edirne (5-16) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Videnov's very good performance Olin Edirne was defeated 72-67 on their home court in Edirne by the higher-ranked Aliaga (#8). He was the top scorer with 15 points. Videnov also added 5 assists. This season Videnov has very high stats. He averages: 16.3ppg, 3.8rpg and 2.8apg. Videnov is an international player who is currently on the senior Bulgarian National Team roster.

   #7. International power forward Cedric Simmons (206-86, college: N.Carolina St., currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian SerieA couldn't help Enel Brindisi (10-12) in their last game. Despite his good performance Enel Brindisi lost 90-94 on the road to the one of league's weakest teams (#15) VL_Pesaro. Simmons recorded 10 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 28 minutes. It was Enel Brindisi's third consecutive loss in a row. Simmons has averaged so far 8.8ppg, 6.3rpg and 1.2bpg in the 22 games. He is a naturalized American. Simmons is also Bulgarian national team player. Interesting that he has never played in Bulgaria.

   #8. Center Jared Homan (206-83, college: Iowa St., currently plays in Germany) couldn't help Bayern Muenchen (17-9) in their game against Walter Tigers (13-13) in the German BBL. Despite his good performance on Saturday night Homan scored 10 points. Homan has averaged so far 10.0ppg, 5.8rpg and 1.1apg. He is a naturalized American. Homan used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2010. However he has never played in Bulgaria.

Former international guard Aleksandar Gruev (187-83, agency: Global Sports Plaza, currently plays in Romania) couldn't help CSU Sibiu (12-14) in their game against Timba Timosoara (7-19) in the Romanian Liga Nationala, despite his very good performance in Saturday night's game. Gruev was the second best scorer with 22 points. He also added 4 passes in 36 minutes. But CSU Sibiu lost 80-84 in Timisoara to the lower-ranked (#13) Timba Timosoara. It was CSU Sibiu's third consecutive loss in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. Gruev belongs to league's best passers and is ranked #7 with 4.6apg. He also averaged so far 13.8ppg and 2.5rpg in the 24 games. Gruev used to play for the Bulgarian national team two years ago.

   #10. Power forward Hristo Nikolov (200-85, currently plays in Romania) couldn't help U-Mobitelco (17-9) in their game against Targu Mures (19-7) in the Romanian Liga Nationala. Despite his good performance last Monday He recorded 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. This season Nikolov has relatively solid stats: 14.4ppg, 3.8rpg, 2.8apg and 1.6spg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Bulgarian National Team roster.

   #11. Former international guard Roderick Blakney (184-76, college: S.Carolina St., currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Cajasol in their game against Blusens Monbus in the Spanish ACB. He cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. Blakney scored only 3 points. His team was defeated 71-63. He has averaged so far 6.2ppg and 2.5apg. Blakney is a naturalized American. He used to play for the Bulgarian national team six years ago.

   #12. Former international guard Andre Owens (193-80, college: Houston, currently plays in Cyprus) couldn't help Keravnos in their game against Apoel in the Cypriot Division A. He cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. Owens recorded only 3 points in 30 minutes. His team lost 65-74. He has averaged so far 8.5ppg, 3.3rpg and 1.4apg in the 17 games. Owens is a naturalized American. He used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2009. Owens played also for Lukoil Academik Sofia in Bulgarian league.

   #13. Former U20 international guard Georgi Sirakov (186-92, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help Mazzeo San Severo in their game against Castelletto in the Italian Nazionale A (third division). Despite his good performance on Wednesday night He recorded 10 points and added 3 passes. This season Sirakov averages only 7.6ppg. He used to play for the Bulgarian U20 national team two years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Bulgarian passport but never been selected to any of Bulgarian national teams:

   #1. Ilian Evtimov (201-F-83, college: N.Carolina St., currently plays in France), who plays in the French ProA could not help Chalon/Saor (13-8) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Evtimov's very good performance Chalon/Saor was edged 71-69 on the road by the lower-ranked Entente Orleans 45 (#8). He was the second best scorer with 19 points. Evtimov also added 5 rebounds. Evtimov has relatively good stats this season: 11.7ppg, 4.1rpg, 1.9apg and 1.3spg. He has a dual citizenship: Bulgarian and French.

   #2. Experienced Willie Deane (188-PG-80, agency: Higher Vision Sports, college: Purdue, currently plays in Ukraine) led Khimik to a 3-point victory over one of league's weakest teams DniproAzot (11-25) 75-72 in the Ukrainian Superleague in Saturday night's game. Deane was MVP of the game. He scored 18 points and added 3 passes. Khimik-OPZ Yuzny (21-13) is placed fourth in the Superleague. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Deane has relatively good stats this season: 12.6ppg, 2.9rpg, 6.0apg and 1.1spg. He is a naturalized American. Deane used to play for PBC Lukoil Akademik Sophia in Bulgarian league.

   #3. Kee Kee Clark (180-PG-84, college: St.Peter's, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian SerieA was not able to help Umana Venezia (11-11) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Umana Venezia lost in an overtime 88-97 in Milano to the higher-ranked (#5) Armani. Clark was the second best scorer with 20 points. He also added 4 passes in 36 minutes. Clark has relatively good stats this year: 13.3ppg, 2.1rpg and 2.3apg in the 18 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Interesting that Clark has never played in Bulgaria.

   #4. Pero Antic (210-F-82, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in Euroleague) was not able to secure a victory for Olympiacos (6-4) in their game against Regal FC Barcelona (9-1) in the Euroleague. Antic recorded 7 points. Olympiacos (#3) was defeated 90-77 at home by the leading Regal FC Barcelona in the group F of Euroleague. It was Olympiacos' first loss after five consecutive victories. There are only four games left until the end of the Euroleague Top 16. So now every game will be critical. Antic's total stats this season are: 5.8ppg and 3.6rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: FYR Macedonian and Bulgarian.

   #5. Dimitar Karadzovski (190-G-84, agency: Global Sports Plaza, currently plays in FYR Macedonia) contributed to Kozuv's victory against the closely-ranked Feni Indistrija (10-4) 85-79 in the FYR Macedonian Prva Liga on Saturday night. Karadzovski scored 7 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 8 assists in 25 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Kozuv Gevgelija (11-3) is placed first in the Prva Liga. The Regular Season already ended. Karadzovski is currently fifth on the list of best passers with 3.6apg. This year his other stats are: 12.8ppg and 2.9rpg in the 14 games. Karadzovski has both Bulgarian and FYR Macedonian nationalities.

   #6. Kristoffer Gafor (194-G-92, currently plays in Sweden) couldn't help Malbas in their game against Sanda Basket in the Swedish Basketettan (second division). Gafor scored 9 points, grabbed 6 boards, dished 3 assists and stole 3 balls in 38 minutes. His team was edged 68-67. He has individually a very good year with high stats. Gafor averages: 18.4ppg, 7.3rpg, 1.5apg and 2.0spg in the 20 games. He also holds two passports: Swedish and Bulgarian.

   #7. Dinko Marshavelski (211-F/C-89, currently plays college basketball in the States) managed to help Northeastern University to win against the George Mason University 69-67 in the NCAA last Sunday. Marshavelski scored only 2 points. This season he has very high stats. Marshavelski averages: 18.4ppg, 7.3rpg, 1.5apg and 2.0spg.

   #8. Viktor Vladov (202-F-91, currently plays in Germany) couldn't help Leitershofen in their game against Dragons Rhoendorf in the German ProB (third division). He cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. Vladov recorded only 2 points in 6 minutes on the court. His team lost 84-90. He has averaged so far 3.3ppg and 2.8rpg in the eight games. Vladov has Bulgarian and German nationalities.

Balkan Botevgrad (NBL) is close to ink 25-year old Bulgarian international guard Stanimir Marinov (192-88kg-91, agency: Interperformances) who played last time at Sigal Prishtina in Kosovo. It is actually his comeback to Botevgrad as he has played here before. He managed to play in three leagues last year (!!!). In 23 SuperLeague games he recorded 7.8ppg, 3.5rpg and 3.0apg. Mega Leks - Lukoil 78:77 Mega Leks claimed a narrow pre-season win over Lukoil. Marko Tejic (209-C/F-95, agency: BeoBasket) notched 15 points to lead the Serbian team. Lukoil grabbed a 28:20 lead after ten minutes. Mega Leks pulled within six points at the interval 37:43. Mega Leks erased the deficit in the third quarter.
