Rilski Sportist made a huge step towards Balkan League Final Four. They snatched a dramatic double-overtime win over KK Kumanovo on the road tonight. Angelo Caloiaro (203-F-89, college: USF) netted 23 points to pace the winners.
Kumanovo enjoyed a 22:19 lead after the opening quarter. Rilski surged ahead in the second quarter but Kumanovo used an 8:0 run to regain control. The hosts built a 45:42 halftime lead. The lead changed hands throughout the third quarter. KK Kumanovo were able to secure a 67:65 lead into the fourth term. Kumanovo led 88:85 with just over a minute remaining. But Angelo Caloiaro drained a jumper and later Terry Smith (185-PG-86, college: Mercyhurst) followed a free throw from Uros Lukovic (212-C-89) with a bucket to force overtime. Terry Smith came up big late in the first overtime to send the game into another extra period. Mirkovic went perfect from the stripe in the final seconds of the second overtime to seal the win for Rilski Sportist. Terry Smith delivered 22 points for the winning side. Aleksandar Kostoski (186-G-88, agency: Global Sports Plaza) responded with 43 points and 11 assists for Kumanovo. Uros Lukovic had 23 points and 13 boards in the loss.

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Sofia: Akademik Sofia (#1) and Levski 2014-2 (#3). Akademik Sofia (4-0) won against visiting Levski 2014-2 (2-2) 90-80. The game was mostly controlled by Akademik Sofia. Levski 2014-2 managed to win third quarter 29-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Defending champion BC Kalev/Cramo Tallinn (Alexela KML) inked experienced 35-year old Bulgarian guard Branko Mirkovic (190-85kg-82, agency: 011 Sports). He has a double citizenship as he also holds Serbian passport. Mirkovic He started the season at CSM CSU Oradea in Romanian Liga Nationala. He managed to play in three leagues this year (!!!).
