NBL top team - Lukoil Acad. (11-2) added another victory to their record on Saturday. This time they beat eighth ranked Yambol (3-9) 78-70. The guests trailed by 10 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 8 points. American center Steve Zack (211-92, college: La Salle) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 16 rebounds. American-Cameroonian point guard Danny Gibson (177-84, college: S.Indiana) contributed with 19 points and 4 assists for the winners. Lukoil Acad.'s coach Toni Dechev used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Stoyan Petkov (198-85) replied with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 17 rebounds for Yambol. Lukoil Acad. have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 11-2 record. Yambol lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with nine games lost. Lukoil Acad. are looking forward to face Spartak Pleven (#5) at home in the next round. Yambol will play against Academik Plovdiv and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
The game in Varna was also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked Balkan (7-5) played at the court of 7th ranked Cherno More (4-9). Balkan did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 76-58. The former international guard Stanimir Marinov (192-91, agency: Interperformances) scored 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Mihailo Sekulovic chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Balkan's coach Nebojsa Vidic allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Forward Veselin Georgiev (192-86) responded with 13 points. Balkan maintains fourth position with 7-5 record. Cherno More lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with nine games lost. Balkan will play against bottom-ranked Levski (#9) in Sofia in the next round where they are favorite. Cherno More will have a break next round.
The game in Pleven was also quite interesting. 5th ranked Rilski (6-7) played at the court of sixth ranked Spartak Pleven (6-6). Spartak Pleven defeated Rilski 93-77 on Friday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Rilski. Dimitar Marincheshki notched a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead the effort. Even a double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds by D.J. Shelton did not help to save the game for Rilski. Spartak Pleven moved-up to fifth place. Rilski at the other side dropped to the sixth position with seven games lost. Spartak Pleven will meet league's leader Lukoil Acad. in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Rilski will play against the league's second-placed Beroe (#2) and hope to secure a win.

Levski - Akademik PL 58-91

The game between 9th ranked Levski (2-11) and third ranked Academik Plovdiv (8-4) in Sofia ended with biggest points difference. Guests from Plovdiv outscored Levski 91-58. Academik Plovdiv dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Levski's 38 and made 17-of-22 charity shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Academik Plovdiv forced 23 Levski turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Levski's players. 24 personal fouls committed by Levski helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was French-American forward Jordan Semple (201-92, college: Chico St.) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). American guard Shakir Smith (185-92, college: Adams St.) chipped in 16 points and 6 assists. Five Academik Plovdiv players scored in double figures. The game in Pleven was also quite interesting. 5th ranked Rilski (6-7) played at the court of sixth ranked Spartak Pleven (6-6). Spartak Pleven defeated Rilski 93-77 on Friday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Rilski. Spartak Pleven shot the lights out from three sinking 16 long-distance shots on high 51.6 percentage. Power forward Dimitar Marincheshki (200-90) notched a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead the effort and Martin Marinov (191-85, agency: 011 Sports) supported him with 24 points.
