We bring you last week's top performances from Bulgarians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.


Darius Adams

   #1. This week's number one is an international point guard Darius Adams (188-89, agency: Stealth Sport, college: Indianapolis, currently plays in China). He led Xinjiang Flying Tige to a victory over the 16th-ranked Fujian (9-23) crushing them 138-115 in the Chinese CBA in Sunday night's game. Adams was MVP of the game. He had a double-double by scoring 39 points and making 11 passes. Adams also added 5 rebounds in 38 minutes on the court. Xinjiang Flying Tigers (26-6) are placed second in the CBA. It's Adams' first season with the team. He has individually a very good year with high stats. Adams averages: 33.3ppg, 5.7rpg, 6.2apg, 2.1spg, 2FGP: 56.8%(231-407), 3FGP: 35.7% and FT: 86.5% in 31 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Adams is currently a member of the Bulgarian senior national team. Strangely he has never played in Bulgaria.

   #2. Second place goes to an international power forward Alexander Vezenkov (206-95, currently plays in Spain). Vezenkov could not help FC Barcelona (13-5) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his very good performance FC Barcelona was defeated 76-68 at home by the much lower-ranked RETAbet BB (#10). Vezenkov was the top scorer with 20 points. Vezenkov's overall stats this season are: 9.6ppg, 3.6rpg, 2FGP: 71.9%(41-57), 3FGP: 40.7% and FT: 78.1%. He has a dual citizenship: Cypriot and Bulgarian. Despite Vezenkov played previously for the Cypriot U16 national team, he is currently a member of the Bulgarian senior national team.

Dee Bost

   #3. The Bulgarian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Dee Bost (188-89, agency: BeoBasket, college: Mississippi St., currently plays in France). Bost contributed to an easy victory against the 12th-ranked Le Portel (7-11) crushing them 81-57 in the French ProA on Saturday night. He scored 9 points and added 11 passes in 22 minutes. AS Monaco Basket (16-2) is placed first in the ProA. It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. Bost has relatively good stats this year: 12.5ppg, 3.1rpg, 5.2apg, 1.2spg, 2FGP: 43.4%, 3FGP: 33.7% and FT: 75.5% in 18 games. He is a naturalized American. Bost is also a member of the Bulgarian senior national team. Apparently he has never played in Bulgaria.

Earl Rowland

   #4. An experienced point guard Earl Rowland (188-83, college: St.Mary's, CA, currently plays in EuroCup) contributed to Khimky's victory against the closely-ranked Lietkabelis (1-4) 89-77 in the Eurocup in Wednesday night's game. Rowland scored 18 points and added 5 assists. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. BC Khimky Moscow Region (4-1) is placed second in the Eurocup. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Eurocup Second Stage. And that game will be critical. This season Rowland has relatively solid stats: 10.4ppg, 2.3rpg, 3.9apg and 1.4spg. He is a naturalized American. Rowland used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2011. Interesting that he has never played in Bulgaria.

Former international power forward Hristo Nikolov (200-85, agency: 011 Sports, currently plays in Poland) was the main contributor in a Stal Ostrow Wlkp.'s victory against the 12th-ranked Trefl (9-10) 87-71 in the Polish PLK in Thursday night's game. Nikolov was the best player in that game. He scored 19 points in 22 minutes. BM Slam Stal Ostrow Wlkp. (12-8) is placed fourth in the PLK. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Nikolov has reliable stats this year: 10.4ppg, 3.2rpg and 1.1apg in 18 games. He used to play for the Bulgarian national team three years ago.

   #6. Guard Branko Mirkovic (190-82, also represented by 011 Sports, currently plays in Romania) was not able to help Oradea (6-5) in their last game. Despite Mirkovic's very good performance Oradea lost 81-93 on the road to the lower-ranked (#9) CS Dinamo Bucuresti. He was the second best scorer with 17 points. Mirkovic also added 7 passes in 28 minutes. His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. Mirkovic's stats this year are: 12.5ppg, 3.2rpg, 4.7apg and 1.3spg in 18 games. He is a former international player as he played for the Bulgarian senior team four years ago.

Former international small forward Pavel Marinov (199-88, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Romania) contributed to a 2-point Pitesti's victory against one of league's weakest teams Craiova (4-14) 101-99 in the Romanian Liga Nationala in Monday night's game. Marinov was the top player that evening. He scored 21 points and added 5 passes. BCM U Pitesti (12-7) is placed fourth in the Liga Nationala. Marinov's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is quite important. Marinov averaged so far 14.1ppg, 5.2rpg and 4.1apg. He used to play for the Bulgarian national team three years ago.

Power forward Dejan Ivanov (205-86, another player represented by BeoBasket, currently plays in Turkey) contributed to a 1-point Yesilgiresun Bld's victory against the closely-ranked Trabzonspor (6-11) 81-80 in the Turkish BSL last Saturday. Ivanov scored 14 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 29 minutes. Yesilgiresun Belediye (8-9) is placed ninth in the BSL. Ivanov averaged so far 11.6ppg and 6.6rpg in five games. He used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2013.

   #9. International shooting guard Ivan Lilov (194-88, agency: Two Points, currently plays in Hungary) was not able to secure a victory for Szedeak (8-9) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Lilov's very good performance Szedeak was defeated 86-73 on their home court in Szeged by the higher-ranked ZTE KK (#4). He was the top scorer with 25 points. Lilov also added 4 rebounds and dished 4 assists. This season Lilov has very high stats. He averages: 21.3ppg, 4.1rpg, 4.1apg and 1.5spg. Lilov is also in the roster of the Bulgarian national team.

   #10. Center Jason Washburn (210-90, agency: Pensack Sports, college: Utah, currently plays in Japan) couldn't help Yokohama BC (14-22) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the fifth-placed Yokohama BC (14-22) lost 65-78 on their home court in Yokohama to the higher-ranked (#3) Chiba Jets in the Central group. Washburn was the top scorer with 17 points. He also added 9 rebounds and 2 blocks in 31 minutes. They ended the series of three consecutive victories. Washburn has very impressive stats this year: 16.9ppg, 8.4rpg and 1.2apg in 36 games. He is a naturalized American. Washburn is an international player who is currently on the senior Bulgarian National Team roster. However he has never played in Bulgaria.

   #11. Former international power forward Cedric Simmons (206-86, college: N.Carolina St., currently plays in VTB United League) contributed to Kalev/Cramo's victory against the eighth-ranked Astana 78-72 in the VTB United League last Sunday. Simmons scored 7 points, had 4 rebounds and made 2 blocks. Simmons' overall stats this season are: 8.3ppg, 7.1rpg, 1.9apg and 1.1bpg. He is a naturalized American. Simmons used to play for the Bulgarian national team five years ago.

   #12. Former international forward Sim Iliev (204-89, another player represented by Interperformances, currently plays in Austria) couldn't help Furstenfeld Panthers (10-10) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Iliev's very good performance Furstenfeld Panthers were badly defeated 85-66 in Traiskirchen by the lower-ranked Arkadia Lions (#7). He was the top scorer with 21 points. Iliev also added 5 rebounds. This season Iliev has very high stats. He averages: 15.9ppg, 6.0rpg and 2.0apg. Iliev used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2014.

   #13. International forward Aleks Simeonov (200-93, currently plays in Spain) contributed to Gipuzkoa's victory against the 15th-ranked Cocinas.com 75-70 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) last Friday. He recorded 9 points in 15 minutes. This year Simeonov's overall stats are: 5.3ppg and 3.0rpg in 20 games. He is also Bulgarian national team player.

   #14. International forward Aleksandar Yanev Georgiev (203-90, another player represented by Interperformances, currently plays in ABA League) couldn't help KK Zadar in their game against Igokea in the ABA League. Yanev Georgiev scored only 4 points. His team was edged 78-77. Yanev Georgiev's total stats this season are: 3.5ppg and 2.5rpg. He plays currently for the Bulgarian national team.

   #15. Former international power forward Kaloyan Ivanov (205-86, another player represented by BeoBasket, currently plays in Turkey) managed to help Tofas Bursa to win against the fifth-ranked Darussafaka 83-66 in the Turkish BSL last Monday. Ivanov recorded only 2 points. Ivanov averaged so far 12.5ppg, 4.4rpg and 2.9apg. He used to play for the Bulgarian national team four years ago.

   #1. Experienced Willie Deane (188-PG-80, agency: Higher Vision Sports, college: Purdue, currently plays in Latvia) was the major contributor in Ventspils' victory against the league outsider Valka/Valga (3-10) crushing them 119-70 in the Latvian LBL last Wednesday. Deane scored 18 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 6 assists in 29 minutes. BK Ventspils (17-2) is placed first in the LBL. This year Deane's overall stats are: 9.4ppg, 1.9rpg, 3.8apg and 1.4spg in 19 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Deane used to play for PBC Lukoil Akademik Sophia in Bulgarian league.

   #2. Pero Antic (211-F/C-82, agency: BeoBasket, currently plays in Euroleague) contributed to Fenerbahce's victory against the second-ranked CSKA (15-6) 77-71 in the Euroleague on Thursday night. He scored 9 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Fenerbahce Istanbul (14-7) is placed fourth in group A. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Antic's overall stats this season are: 4.9ppg and 2.5rpg. He has a dual citizenship: FYR Macedonian and Bulgarian.

   #3. Dimitar Karadzovski (190-G-84, agency: Global Sports Plaza, currently plays in FYR Macedonia) led Kumanovo to a victory over the closely-ranked Pelister Bitola (4-7) 81-64 in the FYR Macedonian Prva Liga last Saturday. Karadzovski was the top player that evening. He scored 20 points and added 8 assists. KK Kumanovo 2009 (7-3) is placed third in the Prva Liga. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Karadzovski averaged so far 10.4ppg, 4.3rpg and 4.6apg. He is another player who holds two passports: Bulgarian and FYR Macedonian.

   #4. Ilian Evtimov (201-F-83, college: N.Carolina St., currently plays in France) could not help Cholet Basket (6-12) in their last game. Despite Evtimov's good performance Cholet Basket lost 61-68 on the road to the higher-ranked (#11) Limoges CSP Elite. He was the second best scorer with 13 points in 30 minutes. It was Cholet Basket's third consecutive loss in a row. Evtimov averaged so far 11.2ppg, 3.7rpg and 1.9apg in 17 games. He has both Bulgarian and French nationalities.

   #5. Musa Gunes (201-C-85, currently plays in Turkey) contributed to Istanbulspor's victory against the league outsider Muglaorman (2-20) 84-80 in the Turkish TBL (second division) in Saturday night's game. Gunes recorded 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds (made all of his six free throws) in 17 minutes. Istanbulspor Beylikduzu (13-9) is placed eighth in the TBL. It was his team's first victory after three consecutive loses. This year Gunes' total stats are: 2.9ppg and 2.0rpg in 14 games. He also holds two passports: Bulgarian and Turkish.

   #6. Kiril Pavlovski (210-C-85, also represented by Global Sports Plaza, currently plays in FYR Macedonia) was not able to help Rabotnicki in their game against Kozuv in the FYR Macedonian Prva Liga. Pavlovski cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 2 points. His team was crushed by 21 points 77-56. Pavlovski's total stats this season are: 1.5ppg and 3.0rpg. He has Bulgarian and FYR Macedonian nationalities.

   #7. Juliy Arabadzhiyski (204-F-93, currently plays in Germany) was not able to secure a victory for Bielefeld (5-8) in their last game. Despite Arabadzhiyski's very good performance Bielefeld (#5) was crushed 108-76 on the opponent's court by the higher-ranked (#3) Grevenbroich in the West group. He recorded 15 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 25 minutes. This year Arabadzhiyski's total stats are: 9.1ppg and 6.5rpg in 18 games.

   #8. Milen Kostov (185-G-89, currently plays in Germany) managed to help TVI Basketball SWAP Ballers Ibbenbueren to win against the second-ranked SG Schwelmer Baskets 96-86 in the German Regionalliga (fourth division) last Saturday. He recorded 5 points. Kostov's total stats this season are: 7.7ppg, 3.2rpg, 4.2apg and 1.2spg.

   #9. Boyan Tenev (204-F-88, college: Lincoln Memorial, currently plays in Germany) contributed to an easy victory against the ninth-ranked Weser Bsk/BTS 97-82 in the German Regionalliga (fourth division) on Saturday night. He recorded only 2 points in 17 minutes. This year Tenev averages just 9.0ppg in 12 games.

   #10. Kristiyan Borisov (188-G-88, currently plays in Germany) contributed to a 2-point BV Villingen-Schwenningen's victory against the 14th-ranked Heidelberg USC 82-80 in the German Regionalliga (fourth division) in Saturday night's game. He recorded 5 points. This season Borisov averages only 3.3ppg.

Defending champion Leones de Santo Domingo (LNB) tabbed 25-year old American forward Travis Daniels (202-98kg-92, college: Mississippi State). He moved there from Balkan in Bulgarian NBL league where he started the season. In 23 games he averaged 11.6ppg and 7.3rpg this season. Daniels helped them to make it to the Bulgarian Cup Semifinals.
