Diana Voynova's double-double lands her Player of the Week award among Bulgarians playing currently abroad: - Feb 21, 2017

We bring you last week's top performances from Bulgarians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international power forward Diana Voynova (192-88, college: Duquesne, currently plays in Germany). She led BC Pharmaserv Marburg to an easy victory against the league outsider Rotenburg/Scheessel (3-15) 80-65 in the German DBBL last Saturday. Voynova recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 10 rebounds. BC Pharmaserv Marburg (11-7) is placed fourth in the DBBL. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Voynova's first season with the team. She has relatively good stats this year: 11.3ppg, 7.7rpg, 1.1bpg, 2FGP: 47.5% and FT: 57.4%. Voynova is currently a member of the Bulgarian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to former international forward Radoslava Bachvarova (183-87, college: VCU, currently plays in Hungary). Bachvarova could not help Vasas Akademia (4-13) to beat Atomeromu (12-3). She scored 9 points. But Vasas Akademia was crushed 81-57 on the road by the higher-ranked Atomeromu (#3). It was Vasas Akademia's fifth consecutive loss in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This season Bachvarova has relatively solid stats: 12.4ppg, 3.9rpg, 1.8apg, 2FGP: 45.6%, 3FGP: 28.1% and FT: 90.9%(30-33). Former Levski Sofia starter played for the Bulgarian national team in 2012.

   #3. The Bulgarian player who performed third best last week abroad was former U20 international guard Gergana Georgieva (181-87, currently plays in Germany). She was not able to help ASC Theresianum Mainz (7-13) in their last game. Despite Georgieva's good performance the tenth-placed ASC Theresianum Mainz (7-13) was crushed 68-47 in Germering by the higher-ranked (#8) Friendsfactory in the South group. She was the top scorer with 11 points. Georgieva also added 3 steals in 40 minutes. It was ASC Theresianum Mainz's third consecutive loss in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Georgieva has individually a very good year with high stats. She averages: 16.1ppg, 9.1rpg, 3.2apg, 2.6spg, 2FGP: 52.9%, 3FGP: 21.4% and FT: 71.8% in 17 games she played so far. Georgieva has a dual citizenship: Bulgarian and German. She played for the Bulgarian U20 national team ten years ago.

   #4. Power forward Katrin Stoichkova (182-99, currently plays in Italy) was not able to secure a victory for Viterbo (4-13) in their game against Ferrara (12-5) in the Italian Serie A2 (second division). Stoichkova recorded 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Viterbo (#10) was crushed 68-38 on the opponent's court by the higher-ranked Ferrara (#4) in the Group B. It was Viterbo's third consecutive loss in a row. Stoichkova's overall stats this season are: 3.9ppg and 2.9rpg. She used to play for the Bulgarian U16 national team back in 2015.

   #5. U20 international point guard Iva Georgieva (170-96, college: Salt Lake CC, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help Alghero (1-18) in their game against Sesto SG (17-2) in the Italian Serie A2 (second division). Georgieva cannot count it as her best performance. She recorded only 2 points in 30 minutes. Alghero (#14) was crushed 85-36 in Sesto San Giovanni by the leading Sesto SG in the Group A. It was Alghero's fifth consecutive loss in a row. Georgieva has very impressive stats this year: 15.6ppg, 4.6rpg, 1.1apg, 1.2bpg and 4.1spg in 13 games. She plays currently for the Bulgarian U20 national team.

   #6. An experienced guard Diana Naydenova-Goryanova (171-73, currently plays in United Kingdom) couldn't help Crusaders (10-1) in their game against Riders (8-4) in the British WBBL. Naydenova-Goryanova cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. She scored only 2 points and added 4 assists. The league leader Crusaders was defeated 70-66 in Leicester by the lower-ranked Riders (#3). Naydenova-Goryanova's overall stats this season are: 4.9ppg, 2.0rpg and 3.0apg. She is a former international player as she played for the Bulgarian senior team nine years ago.

   #7. U20 international guard Maria-Magdalena Kolyandrova (166-97, currently plays in Denmark) couldn't help Lemvig (7-8) in their game against Virum (5-7) in the Danish Dameligaen. She cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. Kolyandrova recorded only 3 points. Lemvig was defeated 72-62 at home by the league outsider Virum (#7). It was Lemvig's fourth consecutive loss in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. Kolyandrova's overall stats this season are: 8.0ppg, 3.8rpg, 3.1apg and 1.4spg. She is also Bulgarian U20 national team player.


The list of other players, who all have Bulgarian passport but never been selected to any of Bulgarian national teams:

   #1. Viktoria Mircheva (190-C-87, agency: Josep and Nicolas, currently plays in Turkey) led Samsun to a victory over the league outsider Osmaniye (3-14) 86-82 in the Turkish KBSL in Saturday night's game. She was MVP of the game. Mircheva scored 27 points (!!!) and grabbed 8 rebounds in 36 minutes. Canik Belediyesi Samsun (13-10) is placed eighth in the KBSL. It's Mircheva's first season with the team. She has relatively good stats this year: 12.0ppg, 6.2rpg and 1.5apg in 17 games she played so far. Mircheva has a dual citizenship: Ukrainian and Bulgarian.

   #2. Maria Kostourkova (193-C-97, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA could not help the Washington St. (4-9) in their last game. Despite her good performance the Washington St. was badly defeated 80-64 at home by the University of Southern California. Kostourkova scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 26 minutes. There are only two games left until the end of the NCAA Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This year Kostourkova averages: 4.2ppg, 4.8rpg, 1.1apg and 1.4bpg in 25 games. She is another player who holds two passports: Bulgarian and Portuguese. Despite Kostourkova's Bulgarian nationality, she currently plays for the Portuguese U20 national team and is not eligible to play for the Bulgarian team.

   #3. Experienced Ana Petrova (170-F/G-82, currently plays in Luxembourg) was not able to help Etzella in their game against Musel Pikes (11-5) in the Luxembourg Total League, despite her good performance on Saturday night. Petrova scored 12 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 23 minutes. But Etzella (#4) lost 72-84 on the road to the higher-ranked (#3) Musel Pikes in the Places 1-6 group. Petrova is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's her sixth year in Etzella's roster. This season her overall stats are: 8.9ppg, 4.7rpg, 1.6apg and 1.8spg in 14 games. Petrova has both Bulgarian and Luxembourg nationalities.

   #4. Ana-Maria Kolyandrova (165-G-97, currently plays in Denmark) was not able to secure a victory for Lemvig (7-8) in their game against Virum (5-7) in the Danish Dameligaen. Kolyandrova cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. She recorded only 2 points in 15 minutes. Lemvig lost 62-72 on their home court in Lemvig to the league outsider (#7) Virum. It was Lemvig's fourth consecutive loss in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. This year Kolyandrova's overall stats are: 4.6ppg, 3.4rpg, 2.1apg and 1.3spg in 15 games.

Talented Antonia Filipova (180-SF-98) had an amazing evening in the last round for Slavia and that's her to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 1. The 19-year old had the game-high 19 points adding seven rebounds and three assists for Slavia in her team's victory, helping them to crush, the league's bottom-ranked team NSA (#5, 0-1) with 19-point margin 65-46. The Regular Season in NBL just started. Beroe smashed Rilski Sportist in Stara Zagora 69-40. Beroe dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Rilski Sportist's 28. Beroe forced 25 Rilski Sportist turnovers and outrebounded them 45-26 including 30 on the defensive glass.
