Here is the weekly review of the top performing Bulgarian players, who play currently abroad.


Darius Adams

   #1. This week's number one is an international point guard Darius Adams (188-89, agency: Stealth Sport, college: Indianapolis, currently plays in China). He led Xinjiang Flying Tige to a victory over the fifth-ranked Flying Leopards (29-9) crushing them 118-93 in the Chinese CBA in Friday night's game. Adams was MVP of the game. He recorded 43 points (!!!), 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals in 41 minutes on the court. Xinjiang Flying Tigers (32-6) are placed first in the CBA. It was his team's eighth consecutive victory in a row. Adams has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 30.4ppg, 5.7rpg, 5.9apg, 2.1spg, 2FGP: 55.1%(291-528), 3FGP: 35.4% and FT: 87.6% in 43 games he played so far. Adams is a naturalized American. He is currently a member of the Bulgarian senior national team. Strangely Adams has never played in Bulgaria.

Dee Bost

   #2. Second place goes to an international point guard Dee Bost (188-89, agency: BeoBasket, college: Mississippi St., currently plays in France). He could not help Monaco (19-3) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Bost's very good performance the league leader Monaco was defeated 99-88 on the road by the lower-ranked JSF Nanterre (#3). He was the top scorer with 25 points. Bost also added 3 steals. It's Bost's first season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year: 13.7ppg, 3.1rpg, 5.0apg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 44.2%, 3FGP: 38.7% and FT: 79.7%. Bost is a naturalized American. He is in the roster of the Bulgarian senior national team. Apparently Bost has never played in Bulgaria.

Earl Rowland

   #3. The Bulgarian player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced former international point guard Earl Rowland (188-83, college: St.Mary's, CA, currently plays in EuroCup). He was not able to help one of league's weakest teams Khimky (4-2) in their last game. Despite Rowland's good performance Khimky was badly defeated 92-76 in Valencia by the leading Basket. He was the second best scorer with 14 points. Rowland also added 4 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 30 minutes. They ended the series of three consecutive victories. This year Rowland has relatively solid stats: 10.9ppg, 2.8rpg, 3.9apg, 1.4spg, 2FGP: 61.9%(65-105), 3FGP: 14.3% and FT: 87.5% in 16 games. He is a naturalized American. Rowland played for the Bulgarian national team six years ago. Interesting that he has never played in Bulgaria.

Hristo Nikolov

   #4. Power forward Hristo Nikolov (200-85, agency: 011 Sports, currently plays in Poland) was the main contributor in a Stal Ostrow Wlkp.'s victory against the eighth-ranked Krosno (13-11) 89-78 in the Polish PLK on Sunday night. He was the best player in that game. Nikolov recorded 16 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. BM Slam Stal Ostrow Wlkp. (16-8) is placed third in the PLK. It was his team's eighth consecutive victory in a row. Nikolov's overall stats this season are: 10.0ppg, 3.2rpg and 1.1apg. He used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2014.

   #5. Former international power forward Cedric Simmons (206-86, college: N.Carolina St., currently plays in Baltic League) was not able to secure a victory for Kalev/Cramo in their last game. Despite Simmons' very good performance the second-placed Kalev/Cramo lost 66-77 in Riga to the leading Barons in the group Q of Baltic League. He was the second best scorer with 18 points. Simmons also added 9 rebounds in 24 minutes. This year Simmons' overall stats are: 9.5ppg, 8.3rpg, 1.5apg and 1.5bpg in four games. He is a naturalized American. Simmons used to play for the Bulgarian national team five years ago. However he has never played in Bulgaria.

   #6. Power forward Dejan Ivanov (205-86, also represented by BeoBasket, currently plays in Turkey) contributed to a Yesilgiresun Bld's victory against the closely-ranked Usak Sportlif (6-15) 109-100 in the Turkish BSL on Saturday night. Ivanov scored 17 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 25 minutes. Yesilgiresun Belediye (9-12) is placed tenth in the BSL. It was his team's first victory after three consecutive loses. Ivanov has reliable stats this year: 10.1ppg and 5.3rpg in nine games. He is a former international player as he played for the Bulgarian senior team four years ago.

International forward Aleks Simeonov (200-93, currently plays in Spain) was the major contributor in Gipuzkoa's victory against the fifth-ranked Leche Rio Breogan (17-9) 92-86 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) in Saturday night's game. Simeonov scored 14 points, had 5 rebounds, passed 3 assists and added 2 blocks. RETAbet Gipuzkoa BC San Sebastian (19-8) is placed first in the LEB Gold. Simeonov's total stats this season are: 5.5ppg and 3.1rpg. He is also Bulgarian national team player.

   #8. Power forward Kaloyan Ivanov (205-86, another player represented by BeoBasket, currently plays in Turkey) couldn't help Tofas (10-11) in their last game. Despite Ivanov's good performance Tofas was crushed 81-58 in Istanbul by the second-ranked Anadolu Efes. He was the top scorer with 14 points in 20 minutes. Ivanov's stats this year are: 11.7ppg, 4.3rpg and 2.6apg in 20 games. He used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2013.

   #9. Former international guard Branko Mirkovic (190-82, another player represented by 011 Sports, currently plays in VTB United League) is a teammate of previously mentioned Cedric Simmons. But that was another game of his team in VTB United League which we would like to mention. Mirkovic couldn't help Kalev/Cramo (4-14) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite his good performance Kalev/Cramo was crushed 110-86 at home by the much higher-ranked Unics Kazan (#5). Mirkovic scored 10 points and added 9 assists. It was his first game for Kalev/Cramo this season. Mirkovic used to play for the Bulgarian national team four years ago.

   #10. Power forward Alexander Vezenkov (206-95, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help FC Barcelona (15-7) in their game against Real Madrid (16-6) in the Spanish Liga Endesa. He scored 6 points in only 13 minutes. FC Barcelona was edged 76-75 in Madrid by the second-ranked Real. This year Vezenkov's total stats are: 9.1ppg and 3.5rpg in 22 games. Despite he played previously for the Cypriot U16 national team, Vezenkov is also an international player who is currently on the senior Bulgarian National Team roster.

   #11. International shooting guard Ivan Lilov (194-88, agency: Two Points, currently plays in Hungary) helped Szedeak win their game against the 12th-ranked Atomeromu 84-70 in the Hungarian A Division last Saturday. He recorded 22 points and added 5 passes. This season Lilov has very high stats. He averages: 20.7ppg, 4.2rpg, 3.9apg and 1.5spg. Lilov plays currently for the Bulgarian national team.

   #12. Former international guard Earl Calloway (191-83, college: Indiana, currently plays in Turkey) helped Istanbul BBSK win their game against the closely-ranked Trabzonspor 96-78 in the Turkish BSL on Sunday night. He scored 9 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 5 assists in 31 minutes. Calloway averaged so far 11.2ppg, 4.2rpg, 4.9apg and 1.7spg in 19 games. He is a naturalized American. Calloway used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2010.

   #13. International shooting guard Chavdar Kostov (195-88, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Greece) helped Kymis win their game against the sixth-ranked Kolossos HH 74-64 in the Greek A1 in Saturday night's game. Kostov scored 9 points. Kostov has averaged so far 7.6ppg and 3.2rpg. He is also Bulgarian national team player.

   #14. Former international small forward Pavel Marinov (199-88, another player represented by Interperformances, currently plays in Romania) couldn't help Pitesti in their game against CSU Sibiu in the Romanian Liga Nationala, despite his good performance last Saturday. Marinov was the second best scorer with 12 points. He also added 6 rebounds in 33 minutes. But his team lost 76-84. Marinov averaged so far 13.8ppg, 4.8rpg and 3.9apg in 24 games. He used to play for the Bulgarian national team back in 2014.

   #15. International forward Aleksandar Yanev Georgiev (203-90, another player represented by Interperformances, currently plays in ABA League) managed to help KK Zadar to win against the closely-ranked Un.Olimpija 81-78 in the ABA League on Sunday night. Yanev Georgiev scored only 2 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Yanev Georgiev has averaged so far 2.2ppg and 2.4rpg. He is also in the roster of the Bulgarian national team.


The list of other players, who all have Bulgarian passport but never been selected to any of Bulgarian national teams:

   #1. Experienced Pero Antic (211-F/C-82, agency: BeoBasket, currently plays in Euroleague). Antic could not help Fenerbahce (16-9) to beat Baskonia (14-11). He recorded 7 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Fenerbahce was defeated 79-74 at home by the lower-ranked Baskonia (#7). Antic's overall stats this season are: 4.7ppg and 2.4rpg. He has a dual citizenship: FYR Macedonian and Bulgarian.

   #2. Willie Deane (188-PG-80, agency: Higher Vision Sports, college: Purdue, currently plays in Latvia) led Ventspils to a victory against the sixth-ranked Barons Riga (11-11) 100-91 in the Latvian LBL last Saturday. Deane recorded 11 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists in 35 minutes. BK Ventspils (22-2) is placed first in the LBL. It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. This year Deane's overall stats are: 8.9ppg, 2.0rpg, 3.8apg and 1.3spg in 23 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Deane used to play for PBC Lukoil Akademik Sophia in Bulgarian league.

   #3. Dimitar Karadzovski (190-G-84, agency: Global Sports Plaza, currently plays in FYR Macedonia) was the major contributor in Kumanovo's victory against the sixth-ranked Kozuv (0-1) 108-103 in the FYR Macedonian Prva Liga last Saturday. Karadzovski recorded 21 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals. KK Kumanovo 2009 (1-0) is placed first in Places 1-6 group. Karadzovski has reliable stats this season: 10.7ppg, 4.2rpg, 4.5apg and 1.2spg. He is another player who holds two passports: Bulgarian and FYR Macedonian.

   #4. Boris Matrakov (195-G-93, currently plays in United Kingdom) was not able to help Glasgow Rocks in their game against Bristol Acadamy Flyers (11-14) in the British BBL. Matrakov recorded only 4 points in 7 minutes on the court. Glasgow Rocks lost 68-76 on their home court in Glasgow to the lower-ranked (#8) Bristol Acadamy Flyers. It was Glasgow Rocks' fourth consecutive loss in a row. Matrakov has averaged so far 1.2ppg and 1.1rpg in 16 games.

   #5. Ilian Evtimov (201-F-83, college: N.Carolina St., currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for Cholet Basket (8-14) in their game against Sluc Nancy (5-17) in the French ProA. He cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. Evtimov recorded only 3 points. Cholet Basket was edged 85-82 on the road by the league outsider Sluc Nancy (#18). Evtimov averaged so far 11.0ppg, 3.5rpg and 1.8apg. He has both Bulgarian and French nationalities.

   #6. Milen Kostov (185-G-89, currently plays in Germany) contributed to Ibbenbueren's victory against the fourth-ranked Grevenbroich 105-100 in the German Regionalliga (fourth division) on Saturday night. Kostov scored 15 points in 24 minutes. Kostov has averaged so far 7.5ppg, 2.9rpg and 3.5apg in 17 games.

   #7. Boyan Tenev (204-F-88, college: Lincoln Memorial, currently plays in Germany) couldn't help Aschersleben in their game against ALBA Berlin II in the German Regionalliga (fourth division). He scored 7 points. His team was defeated 84-79. Tenev has averaged so far 8.4ppg and 1.2rpg.

   #8. Juliy Arabadzhiyski (204-F-93, currently plays in Germany) managed to help TSVE Dolphins Bielefeld to win against the 13th-ranked Hagen-Haspe 82-77 in the German Regionalliga (fourth division) last Saturday. He scored only 2 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Arabadzhiyski has averaged so far 8.5ppg and 6.3rpg.

   #9. Petar Zagorov (202-F/C-86, currently plays in United Kingdom) contributed to an easy victory against the tenth-ranked London Lituanica crushing them 85-63 in the British NBL D1 (second division) on Saturday night. He scored only 3 points in 14 minutes. Zagorov has averaged so far 3.9ppg and 2.6rpg in seven games.

Lille Metropole Basket (ProB) inked 29-year old Bulgarian ex-international small forward Pavel Marinov (199-88, agency: Interperformances). He started the season at BCM U Pitesti in Romanian Liga Nationala. In 34 games he recorded 14.5ppg, 4.4rpg and 4.0apg this season. The last season Marinov played at CS Dinamo Bucuresti (also in Liga Nationala) where in 36 games he averaged 12.3ppg, 4.3rpg and 3.5apg.
