Bulgarian NBL round 24 best performance: Stanimir Marinov - Apr 2, 2017

Stanimir
Marinov
International Guard Stanimir Marinov (192-G-91, agency: Interperformances) had a great game in the last round for Balkan, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 24.
The 25-year old player was the main contributor (25 points, two rebounds and four assists) to his team's victory, helping them to outclass Levski (#9, 4-18) with 26-point margin 96-70. Balkan is placed at 5th position in Bulgarian NBL. Balkan is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 11-10 record. In the team's last game Marinov had a remarkable 81.8% from 2-point range. He turned to be Balkan's top player in his first season with the team. Stanimir Marinov averages this season 14.0ppg and 4.1apg.

The second best player in last round's games was 24-year old American Evan Bruinsma (202-F-92, agency: Inception Sports) of Rilski. Bruinsma had a very good evening with a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds. Bad luck as Rilski lost that game 74-79 to slightly higher-ranked Beroe (#3, 14-7). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Rilski still maintains its place in the top 4 of the standings, even despite this loss. His team's 13-9 record is not bad at all. Bruinsma is a newcomer at Rilski, but is already one of team's top players.

Third on the list of top players last round was former international center Nikolay Varbanov (209-C-85, agency: Interperformances) of Yambol (#7). Varbanov scored 17 points and grabbed eleven rebounds (!!!). Despite Varbanov's great performance Yambol lost 78-89 to the higher-ranked Akademik PL (#2, 15-6). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Yambol can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 6-15 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Varbanov he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Varbanov has individually a great season in Bulgaria. After 21 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.6rpg (6th best). He also has 1.1bpg and FGP: 64.9%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Mihailo Sekulovic (206-C-91) of Balkan - 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists
5. Amin Hott (192-G-92) of Balkan - 22 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists
6. Dimitar Marincheshki (200-F/C-90) of Spartak Pleven - 19 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists
7. Anthony Beane (188-G-94) of Lukoil Acad. - 16 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Oscar Bellfield (187-PG-90) of Akademik PL - 22 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists
9. Shakir Smith (185-G-92) of Akademik PL - 27 points
10. Brandis Raley-Ross (191-G-87) of Beroe - 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
