A1 Round 11: Jolly beats ZKK Medvescak in the most crucial game of the week - Dec 22, 2012

A1 is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 11 rounds left.

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Sibenik. Third ranked Jolly faced 4th placed ZKK Medvescak. Host Jolly (9-2) defeated guests from Zagreb (8-3) 75-70. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of ZKK Medvescak. The hosts trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 36-28 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Jolly forced 22 ZKK Medvescak turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Jolly made 7 blocks. 26 personal fouls committed by ZKK Medvescak helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was international forward Antonija Misura (178-88) who scored 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. International center Ana Semren (190-88) chipped in 20 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Nina Premasunac (186-92) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds for the guests. ZKK Medvescak's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Jolly maintains third place with 9-2 record having just two points less than leader Novi Zagreb. ZKK Medvescak at the other side keeps the fourth position with three games lost. Jolly are looking forward to face Tresnjevka (#5) at home in the next round. ZKK Medvescak will play against Rockwool Pula and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
Undefeated leader Lupa Promotion delivered the eleventh consecutive victory. This time they crushed 9th ranked Rockwool Pula (3-8) 85-59. The former international forward Mirna Mazic (188-85, college: Richmond) orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points. Matea Vrdoljak contributed with 13 points for the winners. Lupa Promotion's coach felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Tea Dikic (176-85) answered with 19 points for Rockwool Pula. Rockwool Pula at the other side keeps the ninth position with eight games lost. They share it with Studenec Omis. Lupa Promotion will play against Pleter (#8) in Pleternica in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Rockwool Pula will play at home against ZKK Medvescak in Zagreb and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Bottom-ranked ZKK Agram (0-11) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 89-52 loss to sixth ranked Tresnjevka (6-5) in Zagreb on Saturday evening. It was a great evening for Anja Skara who led her team to a victory scoring 17 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Coach 's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Iva Meznaric responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Tresnjevka moved-up to fifth place. ZKK Agram lost their eleventh game in a row. They still closes the standings with 11 games lost. Tresnjevka will meet higher ranked Jolly (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. ZKK Agram will play against Studenac Omis (#10) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
The game in Pleternica supposed to be also worth to mention about. Second ranked Gospic (10-1) played at the court of 7th ranked Pleter (4-7). Gospic smashed Pleter 83-49. It was an exceptional evening for Emanuela Salopek who led the winners and scored 13 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for Gospic. Defending champion maintains second place with 10-1 record behind leader Novi Zagreb. Pleter at the other side dropped to the eighth position with seven games lost. Gospic's next round opponent will be ZKK Split (#6) on the road. Pleter will play against the league's leader Lupa Promotion in Novi Zagreb.

In the last two games of round 11 Studenec Omis defeated Ragusa in a road game 57-53. Zadar was smashed by Split at home 56-85.



Pleter - Gospic 49-83

The game in Pleternica supposed to be also worth to mention about. Second ranked Gospic (10-1) played at the court of 7th ranked Pleter (4-7). Gospic smashed Pleter 83-49. The game without a history. Gospic led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Pleter's 22. Gospic forced 19 Pleter turnovers and outrebounded them 36-22 including 23 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for international Emanuela Salopek (178-87) who led the winners and scored 13 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Guard Monika Bosilj (178-85, college: FIU) accounted for 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Four Gospic players scored in double figures. The former international power forward Katarina Mrcela (190-75) came up with 13 points and the former international guard Martina Gambiraza (176-82) added 12 points respectively for Pleter in the defeat. But Ragusa was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Omis 57-53. Ragusa was ahead by 12 points at the halftime before a 35-19 second half run of Studenac Omis. It was an exceptional evening for the former international forward Antonela Anic (177-85) who led the winners and scored 17 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Ivana Seric (170-88, college: NJIT) accounted for 13 points and 4 assists for the winning side. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to KK Zadar's 26. ZKK Split forced 29 KK Zadar turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for guard Tea Buzov (176-90) who led the winners and scored 23 points and 9 rebounds. Forward Ivana Roje (189-87) accounted for 22 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Four ZKK Split players scored in double figures. Forward Davorka Balic (188-88) came up with 16 points and forward Lara Majstorovic (182-90) added 6 points and 11 rebounds respectively for KK Zadar in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. ZKK Split moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Zadar. ZKK Split's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Gospic at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

Studenac-Omis advanced to A1 League for the 2016/2017 season as they won the Second Stage of the A2 play-offs. In the last game the team overcame Plamen Pozega 108:37 to finish on top with a 4-2 record. Studenac-Omis erupted with a 35-13 surge in the opening period and never looked behind in the game.
