A1 Round 15: Lupa Promotion beats ZKK Medvescak by three after a very close game - Feb 11, 2013

The most exciting game of round 15 in the A1 took place in Zagreb. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 4th placed ZKK Medvescak (10-5) to second ranked Lupa Promotion (14-1) 77-74 on Saturday evening. The guests trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 77-74. Lupa Promotion dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to ZKK Medvescak's 34. Lupa Promotion forced 26 ZKK Medvescak turnovers. It was a good game for the former international forward Mirna Mazic (188-85, college: Richmond, agency: 1x1 Sports) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. American center Latoya Williams (190-87, college: Chipola JC) contributed with 21 points and 4 steals for the winners. Lupa Promotion's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Nina Premasunac (186-92) answered with 11 points and 7 rebounds for ZKK Medvescak. Lupa Promotion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Gospic. ZKK Medvescak at the other side keeps the fourth place with five games lost. Lupa Promotion is looking forward to face Tresnjevka (#7) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. ZKK Medvescak will play against ZKK Split and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A1 top team - Gospic (14-1) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat sixth ranked Tresnjevka (6-9) 63-54. It was a great evening for guard Monika Bosilj (178-85, college: FIU) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. Emanuela Salopek helped adding 12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals. The best for the losing side was Bosnian power forward Ivana Jovanovic (185-85) with 21 points. Gospic have an impressive series of thirteen victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 14-1 record, which they share with Novi Zagreb. Tresnjevka lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the seventh position with nine games lost. Gospic will play against Studenac Omis (#10) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Tresnjevka will play against the league's second-placed Lupa Promotion in Novi Zagreb and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Bottom-ranked ZKK Agram is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 15th consecutive match to fifth ranked ZKK Split (7-8) 67-47 on Saturday evening. It was an exceptional evening for Ivana Roje who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 18 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Iva Belosevic came up with 8 points and 14 rebounds for ZKK Agram in the defeat. ZKK Split maintains fifth place with 7-8 record, which they share with Zadar. ZKK Agram lost their fifteenth game in a row. They still closes the standings with 15 games lost. ZKK Split will meet at home higher ranked ZKK Medvescak (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. ZKK Agram will play against Jolly (#3) in Sibenik and hopes to get finally their first victory.
The game between 11th ranked Ragusa (4-11) and third ranked Jolly (12-2) in Dubrovnik ended with biggest points difference. Guests from Sibenik outscored Ragusa 83-50. The best player for the winners was Luca Ivankovic who had a double-double by scoring 29 points and 12 rebounds (on 13-of-14 shooting from the field). The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Jolly. They maintain third place with 12-2 record having just three points less than leader Gospic. Newly promoted Ragusa keeps the eleventh position with 11 games lost. Jolly's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked ZKK Agram (#12) in Zagreb and are hoping to win another game. Ragusa will play on the road against Rockwool Pula and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 15 Rockwool Pula was smashed by Zadar on the road 77-54.


Zadar - Rockwool Pula 77-54

No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked KK Zadar (7-8) crushed at home 8th ranked Rockwool Pula (5-10) 77-54. The game without a history. KK Zadar led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Rockwool Pula's 34. KK Zadar forced 27 Rockwool Pula turnovers. Strangely Rockwool Pula outrebounded KK Zadar 40-28 including 30 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was forward Zana Cvjetkovic (175-90) who scored 15 points, 7 assists and 6 steals. Forward Antonia Erslan (180-88) chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds. Four KK Zadar players scored in double figures. KK Zadar's coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was center Martina Zubak (191-83) who recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds and guard Tea Buzov (176-90) added 18 points and 6 rebounds respectively. KK Zadar moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Split. Rockwool Pula at the other side dropped to the ninth position with ten games lost. KK Zadar's next round opponent will be Pleter (#8) in Pleternica. Rockwool Pula will play at home against Ragusa in Dubrovnik and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

A1 top team - Gospic (14-1) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat sixth ranked Tresnjevka (6-9) 63-54. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Tresnjevka won fourth quarter 13-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gospic forced 20 Tresnjevka turnovers. It was a great evening for guard Monika Bosilj (178-85, college: FIU) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. International Emanuela Salopek (178-87) helped adding 12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals. Ragusa - Jolly 50-83

The game between 11th ranked Ragusa (4-11) and third ranked Jolly (12-2) in Dubrovnik ended with biggest points difference. Guests from Sibenik outscored Ragusa 83-50. The game was mostly controlled by Jolly. Ragusa was better in fourth quarter 14-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Ragusa to just 3 points in second quarter. Jolly dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Ragusa's 32 and made 16-of-19 charity shots (84.2 percent) during the game.
