Here is the weekly review of the top performing Croatian players, who play currently abroad.


Ante Zizic

   #1. This week's number one is an international power forward Ante Zizic (210-97, agency: BeoBasket, currently plays in Turkey). He was the major contributor in Darussafaka's victory against the closely-ranked Gaziantep (8-10) 89-85 in the Turkish BSL in Monday night's game. Zizic scored 19 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 28 minutes on the court. Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul (12-6) is placed fifth in the BSL. It's Zizic's first season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year: 11.7ppg, 4.5rpg, 2FGP: 71.4%(25-35) and FT: 76.9% in six games he played so far. Ex-KK Ribola Kastela player is currently a member of the Croatian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an experienced international point guard Roko-Leni Ukic (196-84, agency: XL Basketball Agency, currently plays in Greece). Ukic could not help AEK Athens (14-4) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his good performance AEK Athens was defeated 72-65 on the road by the lower-ranked AGOR (#7). Ukic scored 12 points and added 4 passes. This season Ukic has relatively solid stats: 10.7ppg, 2.6rpg, 3.7apg, 2FGP: 54.4%, 3FGP: 33.7% and FT: 79.3%. He is in the roster of the Croatian senior national team.

   #3. The Croatian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Dario Saric (207-94, currently plays in NBA). Saric was not able to help the Philadelphia 76ers in their game against the Boston Celtics (37-20) in the NBA, despite his very good performance on Wednesday night. He had a double-double by scoring 20 points and getting 11 rebounds in 33 minutes. But the Philadelphia 76ers (20-36) lost 108-116 in Boston to the Celtics. They ended the series of three consecutive victories. Saric has reliable stats this year: 10.8ppg, 6.0rpg, 1.8apg, 2FGP: 44.2%, 3FGP: 32.6% and FT: 78.1% in 56 games. Ex-KK Cibona VIP Zagreb player is also a member of the Croatian senior national team.

Power forward Tomislav Zubcic (208-90, currently plays in VTB United League) was not able to secure a victory for BC Nizhny Novgorod (5-12) in their game against Unics Kazan (11-6) in the VTB United League. Despite his very good performance in Thursday night's game He was the top scorer with 22 points. Zubcic also added 4 passes. Zubcic's stats this season are: 12.6ppg, 2.8rpg and 2.3apg. He used to play for the Croatian national team back in 2015.

   #5. Former U20 international center Domagoj Bubalo (212-91, currently plays in Estonia) led Parnu to a victory over the fifth-ranked TTU (10-7) 76-67 in the Estonian Alexela KML last Tuesday. Bubalo was MVP of the game. He had a double-double by scoring 26 points and getting 12 rebounds in 33 minutes. Parnu Sadam (3-0) is placed first in the Alexela KML. So far his team won all three games in the Regular Season. Bubalo has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.6ppg, 8.0rpg and 1.3apg in nine games. Bubalo used to play for the Croatian U20 national team six years ago.

   #6. Center Zvonko Buljan (206-87, college: TCU, currently plays in Iran) couldn't help Kashan (7-11) in their game against Chemidor (10-8) in the Iranian Superleague. Despite his very good performance on Thursday night He recorded a double-double by scoring 33 points and getting 11 rebounds. The Regular Season already ended. This season Buljan has very high stats. He averages: 22.5ppg, 10.1rpg, 2.0apg and 1.3spg. Buljan is a former U18 international player as he played for the Croatian team twelve years ago.

International small forward Bojan Bogdanovic (203-89, currently plays in NBA) couldn't help the Brooklyn Nets (9-47) in their game against the Milwaukee Bucks (25-30) in the NBA, despite his very good performance in Wednesday night's game. He recorded 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 31 minutes. But the Brooklyn Nets (9-47) lost 125-129 in Milwaukee to the Bucks. It was Nets' 14th consecutive loss in a row. Bogdanovic has very impressive stats this year: 14.2ppg, 3.6rpg and 1.7apg in 55 games. He is also Croatian national team player.

Point guard Rok Stipcevic (185-86, agency: Alti Sport, currently plays in Basketball Champions League) couldn't help Banco di Srd (7-7) in their game against CEZ Nymburk (10-4) in the Basketball Champions League. Stipcevic scored 7 points in 31 minutes. The fifth-placed Banco di Srd (7-7) was crushed 84-63 in Nymburk by the higher-ranked (#3) CEZ Nymburk in the group E of Basketball Champions League. Stipcevic's stats this year are: 12.1ppg, 1.6rpg and 3.6apg in 16 games. He plays currently for the Croatian national team.

   #9. International swingman Mario Hezonja (202-95, currently plays in NBA) contributed to an Orlando Magic's victory against the Miami Heat (25-32) 116-107 in the NBA last Monday. He scored 11 points in a mere 16 minutes. The Orlando Magic has 21-37 record this season. This year Hezonja's overall stats are: 4.0ppg and 1.7rpg in 41 games. He is also in the roster of the Croatian national team.

   #10. Swingman Marko Batina (197-86, currently plays in Slovakia) couldn't help Prievidza (20-9) in their game against Rieker KN (17-13) in the Slovakian SBL. Despite his very good performance on Tuesday night Batina was the second best scorer with 18 points. He also added 5 rebounds and dished 4 assists. Batina has been at the team for four years. Batina's total stats this season are: 7.0ppg, 2.7rpg and 1.4apg. He is a former U21 international player as eleven years ago he still played for the Croatian national team.

   #11. International center Ivica Zubac (216-97, also represented by BeoBasket, currently plays in NBA) couldn't help the Los Angeles Lakers in their game against the Phoenix Suns in the NBA. He recorded 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in only 14 minutes. His team were crushed by 36 points 137-101 in the NBA. This year Zubac's total stats are: 5.8ppg and 3.9rpg in 23 games. He plays currently for the Croatian national team.

   #12. Former U20 international center Marin Maric (211-94, currently plays college basketball in the States) couldn't help the N.Illinois in their game against the The University of Toledo in the NCAA. Despite his very good performance on Saturday night Maric recorded a double-double by scoring 24 points and getting 10 rebounds. Maric averaged so far 13.1ppg and 7.4rpg. He used to play for the Croatian U20 national team back in 2014.

   #13. Former international forward Kresimir Loncar (209-83, another player represented by Alti Sport, currently plays in Germany) couldn't help s Oliver Baskets in their game against Telekom Baskets in the German BBL, despite his good performance in Sunday night's game. Loncar scored 12 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in a mere 19 minutes. But his team was badly defeated by 17 points 101-84. Loncar has averaged so far 9.3ppg, 3.2rpg and 1.4apg in 20 games. He used to play for the Croatian national team seven years ago.

   #14. Former international shooting guard Marko Car (188-85, currently plays in Austria) couldn't help Furstenfeld Panthers in their game against Kapfenberg Bulls in the Austrian A Bundesliga. Despite his very good performance last Saturday Car recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and making 11 passes. He also added 5 rebounds. This season Car has very high stats. He averages: 20.0ppg, 5.0rpg, 5.8apg and 1.1spg. Car used to play for the Croatian national team back in 2012.

   #15. Former international power forward Drago Pasalic (208-84, agency: Court Side, currently plays in Holland) contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider Weert crushing them 91-55 in the Dutch Eredivisie on Thursday night. He scored 8 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 5 assists in 21 minutes. Pasalic averaged so far 12.9ppg, 5.5rpg and 1.7apg in 20 games. He used to play for the Croatian national team eight years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Croatian passport but never been selected to any of Croatian national teams:

   #1. Marko Jagodic Kuridza (205-PF-87, currently plays in Belgium) contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Leuven Bears (6-14) 87-70 in the Belgian Euromillions League last Wednesday. Jagodic Kuridza scored 6 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Telenet BC Oostende (16-4) is placed first in the Euromillions League. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Jagodic Kuridza's overall stats this season are: 7.1ppg, 5.4rpg and 1.4apg. He has a dual citizenship: Serbian and Croatian.

   #2. Igor Maric (196-F-85, currently plays in Slovakia) could not help Prievidza (20-9) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Maric's very good performance Prievidza was edged 101-99 on the road by the lower-ranked Rieker KN (#5). He scored 18 points, had 6 rebounds and dished 5 assists. Maric averaged so far 13.6ppg, 5.4rpg, 2.1apg and 1.4spg.

   #3. Marin Mornar (205-F-93, college: Loyola Mary, currently plays in Denmark) was not able to help Horsens IC (19-3) in their last game. Despite Mornar's very good performance the league leader Horsens IC lost 86-91 in Copenhagen to the lower-ranked (#6) SISU. He scored 16 points and had 3 steals in 26 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Mornar's third season in pro basketball. It was Horsens IC's first loss after six consecutive victories. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This year Mornar's total stats are: 5.7ppg and 3.0rpg in 22 games he played so far.

   #4. Mladen Primorac (210-C-90, currently plays in Czech Republic) was not able to secure a victory for USK Praha (20-0) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite his good performance USK Praha was defeated 65-59 in Opava by the lower-ranked BK Opava (#5) in the Places 1-6 group. Primorac was the top scorer with 13 points. He also added 8 rebounds. Primorac's total stats this season are: 9.0ppg, 5.6rpg and 1.6apg.

   #5. Anthony Drmic (198-G/F-92, college: Boise St., currently plays in Australia) couldn't help Adelaide 36ers (17-11) in their game against Illawarra Hawks (15-13) in the Australian NBL. Despite his good performance in Sunday night's game Drmic scored 10 points. Drmic has averaged so far 5.9ppg and 3.3rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Croatian and Australian.

   #6. Sandro Kordis (195-G/F-92, currently plays in Germany) led Sixers to a victory over the eighth-ranked Rendsburg 79-73 in the German Regionalliga (fourth division) last Saturday. Kordis was the best player in that game. He scored 24 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 6 assists in 34 minutes. Kordis has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 19.4ppg, 7.1rpg and 2.4apg in 15 games.

   #7. Mateo Seric (202-PF-99, currently plays in Germany) couldn't help EnBW Ludwigsburg in their game against ALBA Berlin in the German BBL. Seric scored only 4 points. It was his first game for EnBW Ludwigsburg this season. His team was defeated 84-70. Seric has both Croatian and German nationalities.

   #8. Aleksandar Marcius (208-C-90, college: De Paul, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Caceres Basket in their game against Gipuzkoa in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). Despite his very good performance last Friday He recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 12 rebounds. Marcius averaged so far 13.2ppg, 7.7rpg and 1.1spg.

   #9. Bosko Kostur (201-G/F-94, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to Bryant's victory against the Robert Morris University 81-73 in the NCAA last Thursday. He scored 16 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 22 minutes. Kostur has averaged so far 9.6ppg and 3.6rpg in 28 games. He also holds two passports: Australian and Croatian. Despite Kostur's Croatian nationality, he previously played for the Australian U18 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Croatian team.

   #10. Experienced Milan Stegnjaic (204-F/C-81, currently plays in Austria) contributed to a Kapfenberg Bulls' victory against the closely-ranked Furstenfeld Panthers 99-92 in the Austrian A Bundesliga on Saturday night. Stegnjaic scored 6 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Stegnjaic averaged so far 10.4ppg, 5.2rpg and 1.1apg. He has Croatian and Austrian nationalities.

Zadar rolled to its seventh straight win with a 90-80 victory over Cibona in Croatian A1 League Round 22. Gorica defetaed Vrijednosnice Osijek 80-64 to move out of the relegation zone. Zadar-Cibona 90-80: The largest lead of either team in the first half was a four-point. Zadar opened the second half with a 7-0 run for a 45-38 and never looked back from there. Home team Rudes with 10 affected shots for three points and 30 shots for 2 points, beat Grafiar from Ludbreg. In the first quarter Rudes filled Grafiar with even 6 shots for three points and separated on high 19 differences. Following three quarters Grafiar fought, but the first quarter decided the winner of this exciting game. Skrljevo already avoided a releagation from Croatian A1 League with a 87-77 win over Hermes Analicitca in Round 22. Kvarner 2010-Split 81-88: The home team led only once in the game and that came on an opening basket by Mate Vucic. Splitje then went on a 10-0 run and later made a 15-2 run spanning the first and second quarter for a 36-21 lead.
