Split used a 39-9 run spanning halftime to erase a 23-point second quarter deficit in a 77-71 win over Zagreb in Croatian A1 League Round 23.

Split-Zagreb 77-71: The game featured just two lead changes. Split opened the game with a 5-0 run and then Zagreb scored 10 straight points. The visitors had their first double-digit advantage at 22-10 late in the first quarter. Zagreb used a 12-0 run for their largest lead of the night, 45-22 late in the second quarter. At that point, Split went on an 18-0 run spanning halftime to cut the deficit to 40-45 and later made a 19-2 run to go up 61-54 and never looked back from there. Henrik Sirko (201-F-93) had 21 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds for Split, Goran Filipovic (180-PG-96) added 17 points, Josip Jukic (207-F/C-96) 12 and Mateo Kedzo (206-F/C-84) 11. Zagreb was led by a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds by Pavle Marcinkovic (199-G/F-89). Martin Junakovic (193-PG-94) and Antonio Vlaic (205-C-91) both added 12 points, Ivan Majcunic (193-SG-96) and Toni Vitali (203-F-91) netted 11 points apiece.

GKK Sibenik-Jolly 87-77: Sibenik scored five straight points to go up 13-9 midway through the opening quarter and never looked back for the rest of the game. Jolly tied the scored at 14-14, but Sibenik responded with a 19-6 run spanning the first and second quarters and had their largest lead of the night at 52-36 early in the second half. Jolly halved the deficit, 56-64. At that point, Sibenik made an 8-0 run and were up 76-61 with five minutes remaining, Sibenik hit six 3-pointers in the opening quarter. Ivan Siriscevic finished with 18 points on shooting 4-of-5 behind the 3-point line, Teo Petani (190-G-88) added 13 points, Ive Ivanov (200-C-85) 12, Roko Badzim (197-G-97) and Domagoj Basic (193-G-86) both scored 11 points. Jolly was led by Ivan Novacic (201-F-85) with 21 points, Mike Scott (183-PG-93, college: Idaho) (191-G/F) scored 19 and Nemanja Maric (198-G-83) 10.

Hermes Analitica-Kvarner 2010 81-78: After trailing 59-68 with less than five minutes left, Kvarner cut the deficit to point, 70-71 and 74-75 in the final minute. Hermes' Hrvoje Garafolic made a lay-up and then Ivan Svoboda (190-G-87) made three of his four free throws for a 80-76 lead with 13 seconds to go. Josip Barnjak (190-G/F-98) cut the deficit to two and Kvarner then fouled Hrvoje Garafolic. He made first free throw and intentionally missed the second, Hermes had all five starters in double scoring figures. Ivan Svoboda posted 23 points, Marko Raic (190-G-87) 17, Julijan Rajic 14, David Usic (206-F-93, college: Florida Tech) had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Hrvoje Garafolic scored 11 points. Kvarner was led by Mauro Veljacic (183-PG-93) who scored 18 points on shooting 6-of-20 from the field, Dino Butorac (191-G-90) scored 16 points and Mate Vucic (203-F/C-97) 10.

Vrijednosnice Osijek-Skrljevo 72-75: The game featured 14 lead changes and 7 ties. Skrljevo's Davor Konjevic (197-G/F-90) scored ten straight points including two 3-pointers to turn a 65-67 deficit into a 75-69 lead going into the final minute. Konjevic finished with 19 points, Jasmin Perkovic (205-F-80) and Brian Williams (187-G-92, college: Jacksonville St.) both added 14 and Antonio Boban (205-PF-93) 10. Osijek commited 23 turnovers. Arijan Dosen (188-SG-96) scored 29 points on shooting 6-of-8 behind the 3-point line, Jakov Mustapic (193-G-94) added 21 points and Domagoj Vukovic (208-F/C-93) 12.
Alkar-Zabok 76-78: Zabok trailed just at 2-4 and had their largest lead of the game at 62-46 late in the third quarter. At that point, Alkar went on an 11-0 run and later cut the deficit to 69-71. Zabok responded with five straight points to extend their lead to 76-69 with 23 second remaining. Hrvoje Puljko (193-G-83) scored 16 points, Marin Zrnic (201-F-88) 15 and Filip Palac (194-SG-95) 12. Alkar was outrebounded 23-37. Hrvoje Vucic scored 22 points, Ivan Svalina (196-G-97) and Nikola Gaurina (197-F-83) both added 14 points and Marko Sarac (204-PF-97) 13.

Newly promoted Ribola Kastela has mutually agreed not to activate the extension clause in contract of head coach Ivica Celan, citing personal reasons. Celan took over Ribola Kastela in January 2016 and failed to avoid relegation from the A1 League. Tecnyconta Zaragoza (Liga Endesa) inked 20-year old Croatian small forward Lovro Mazalin (204-97). He played most recently at KK Zadar in Croatian A1 league. In 24 games he averaged 9.3ppg, 5.5rpg, 2.3apg and 1.5spg last season. Mazalin helped them to make it to the semifinals. He also played 23 games in ABA League where he had 9.8ppg, 4.4rpg, 2.6apg and 1.2spg. The previous (15-16) season Mazalin played at Cedevita (also in A1). Defending champion U-Banca Transilvania Cluj Napoca (Liga Nationala) landed 29-year old Croatian international forward Zeljko Sakic (204-98kg-88, agency: BeoBasket). He played most recently at Cibona in Croatian A1 league. Sakic managed to play in four leagues last year (!!!). In 32 A1 games he averaged impressive 15.4ppg, 6.8rpg (#5 in the league), 2.6apg and 1.0spg. Sakic helped them to make it to the final.
