Croatian A1 round 23 best performance: Zeljko Sakic - Apr 5, 2017

Zeljko Sakic
International Forward Zeljko Sakic (204-F-88, agency: BeoBasket) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Cibona, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 23.
The 28-year old player was the main contributor (29 points, seven rebounds and eight assists) to his team's victory, helping them to edge out KK Zagreb (#8, 10-13) 91-87. Cibona maintains the 5th position in Croatian A1. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Cibona will need more victories to improve their 17-6 record. In the team's last game Sakic had a remarkable four three-pointers out of 8 attempts. He turned to be Cibona's top player in his first season with the team. Zeljko Sakic has solid league stats. He is in league's top in rebounds (9th best: 5.8rpg) and averages impressive 60.0% FGP and 42.6% from behind 3-point line.

The second best player in last round's games was 22-year old Mislav Brzoja (198-G-94, agency: Octagon Europe) of Zadar. Brzoja had a very good evening with a double-double of 16 points and 10 assists. Of course he led Zadar to another comfortable win 99-81 over the lower-ranked Gorica (#13, 4-18) being unquestionably team leader. Zadar's 6th position in the standings has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 16-7 record is not bad and everything may still change. Brzoja is a newcomer at Zadar and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.

Third on the list of top players last round was guard Arijan Dosen (188-SG-96) of Vrij.Osijek (#7). Dosen scored 29 points. Despite Dosen's great performance Vrij.Osijek lost 72-75 to the lower-ranked Skrljevo (#10, 8-15). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Vrij.Osijek ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 12 games, recording just eleven victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Dosen could help Vrij.Osijek to bring them higher in the standings. Dosen has a very solid season. In 20 games in Croatia he scored 4.4ppg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Marin Rozic (201-F-83) of Cibona - 19 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Henrik Sirko (201-F-93) of KK Split - 21 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists
6. David Usic (206-F-93) of H.Analitica - 12 points and 10 rebounds
7. Kristijan Sutalo (207-G-90) of Gorica - 12 points and 11 rebounds
8. Masan Vrbica (190-PG-94) of Gorica - 15 points, 5 rebounds and 13 assists
9. Pavle Marcinkovic (199-G/F-89) of KK Zagreb - 16 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists
10. Goran Filipovic (180-PG-96) of KK Split - 17 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
