In Group B, Keravnos Strovolou beat the Finnish site of Joensuun Kataja with 72-67 and is now to the 1-1 record in this series. Keravnos is the only Cyprus representative that succeeded a positive result after the 0-5 of the three teams (Etha, Keravnos, Apollon) in these first two weeks of the Eurochallenge Competition.

Keravnos have recorded their first victory of the EuroChallenge season, after an extra terrestrial performance by the Cyprus international shooting guard Andreas Pilavas (194-G-83) who did a career's high in his European courts, career with his four-from-four from beyond the arc, on the way to recording a game and career's-high with 25 points, 1 rebound and 2 steals in 28 minutes in the court.

After the solid performance in its first European game against the Russians of Krasnye Krylia and the negative result on details, Keravnos players went into their Group B encounter with a mark in the loss column, the Cypriot's record looked like it may take another hit on Wednesday as their Finnish guests pushed them to the end in a see-sawing game that experienced 10 lead changes. The usual suspect for Keravnos Crocker was in a very bad shape and his assistance for the Cyprus site was not as usual, the fortunate factor for Keravnos was that through solid team-work and good D, the weakness of Keravnos top scorer and leading figure to perform even decent for Keravnos (0/4 two pointers, 1/4 three pointers, and 7 turnovers!) was bypassed.

The turnign point of the game took palce when the American guard
Bobby Maze (191-PG-86, college: Tennessee) drove to the hoop to make a lay-up with 40 seconds remaining, given to the hosts a lead that they would not relinquish again as Tony Crocker (201-G/F-87, college: Oklahoma) made a pair of free-throws and Giannis Demertzis (194-PG-83) added one-of-two from the line with three seconds remaining to confirm the victory for the Cyprus site.

Maze ended the game with 12 points but the real star was Andreas Pilavas who went . Decisively, two of the four three-pointers came in the deciding period, a period in which the shooting guard would pick up 10 points from the floor on a perfect shooting display.

With 19 points
Jonte Flowers (196-F/G-85, college: Winona St.) was the best of the guests whilst veteran Petri Virtanen (183-PG-80) chipped in with 12.

Keravnos is the champion after many attempts... - 15 days ago
Ten years after the last championship, Keravnos Strovolou finally and after a great 'fight' against the last season's champions (and top favourite team according to available budget) AEK Larnakas, won the final series with 3-1 and won totally fair the sixth championship trophy with the last one being back in 2008. After quite many times being very close to the trophy but losing it at the very last minute, Keravnos management decided to trust in the head coaching position (after many-many...   [read more]

Importance of Statistics - 16 days ago
Statistics is the study of the collection, organization, analysis, and interpretation of data. Even though it cannot and should not constitute an objective measurement of the performance of a player, statistics provide tools for prediction and forecasting using data and statistical models. Statistics is applicable to a wide variety of academic disciplines, including natural and social sciences, government, and business but also in basketball. Statistical consultants are available to pro...   [read more]
