Pizza Express Apollon succeeded its very first win after three negative results after beating its "homie" team of Proteas Ael Limassol at the end with 75-74 in a dramatic game. Jefferson was the hero of the game and the man of the match since with his own offensive rebound after the missed shot from his team-mate Dorsey 1 second before the end of the game, took the foul made by Orion Outerbridge (205-F-88, college: Rhode Island) and scored the one for the two free throws to end the game once and for all. Jefferson scored 16 points in total and dashed down 8 rebounds but he only had 50% from the charity line with 8/16 free throws the last of which was the most crucial one for his team.
AEL started the game in more offensive mood and the first period end up with 19-23 with AEL finding solutions mainly from his three musketeers (Orion Outerbridge, Aleksic and Allen). Apollon reacted and in the second period succeeded an amazing 24-7 to lead the half way to 43-30. Upon everybody thought that Pizza Express Apollon would be gaining an easy victory as AEL was actually playing with four players scoring since all the other talented youngsters couldn't follow the mode, AEL reacted and at the end of the third period after over scoring their opponents with 14-22, cut the deficit to just five points 57-52. The visiting site of AEL continued its offensive crescent mainly with Aleksic and Orion Outerbridge, and at two minutes before the end the two teams were balanced to 69-69 and a minute after with another three pointer AEL took the lead with 3 (69-72) the last seconds were dramatic and Apollon finally won the game and his first victory is now a fact. Top scorers: Apollon: Jefferson 16, Brandon 15, Kapelan 13 and Dorsey 10 AEL: Orion Outerbridge and Milutin Aleksic (203-F-82) 22 per head, Allen 17 and Guillandeaux 11 (the only other basket for AEL was scored by Loizidis)
Omonoia - Apoel 74-102
Omonoia lost its very first game this season and as of the 18th of November, 2012 Keravnos Strovolou is the only unbeaten team in the league. CytaVision Apoel thrashed the unbeaten team of Papa John's Pizza Omonoia 74-102 and sent her to the third place.
The team of Coach Konstantinidis with solid and simple game against the four American players of Omonoia lead the way from the first minute and by the end of the first period the difference was already to the +17 points as Omonoia scored just 12 points while Apoel with Porter and Grant mainly scored 29 points to gain a psychological advantage. Omonoia reacted and with Lee and Lamar mainly cut the deficit to 13 with the score ending at the end of the first half to 39-51. Apoel was not letting the chance to go so upon Omonoia's players set game with many missing shots from behind the arc was continuing, Michal Kremen (200-G/F-81) and Stiggers helped their team and together with Chan gave a new lead to their team by the end of teh third period to 52-71. It is worth mentioned the only 57% on ther free throws for Omonoia's players while the 23% from behind the arc was also a crucial point for the until yesterday unbeaten team of Coach Tsaggaridis. The fourth and final period was a typical case since Omonoia's players couldn't follow the crescent of Apoel's players and even though they had their fans push (more than 2.000 Omonoia Fans visited the court) Apoel with much more solutions in both edges succeeded a crucial road win and is currently at the second spot of the league behind the top seated team of Keravnos Strovolou. Top scorers: Omonoia: Lee 20, Lamar 16 and Jamar Diggs (187-G-88, college: Wofford) 13 Apoel: Porter 18, Grant 19, Michal Kremen 15 and 9 rebounds, Stiggers 13 and 5 assists, Chan 11, Morrisson 10 and 6 rebounds
A great derby took place in Larnaca where the home team lost another game in details and the AEK's fans are now very disappointed as their team started the season with more solid dreams than ever, correct programming, great roster and lots of experience but they are still at the lower parts of the table with many games lost in details. The game was a derby between more or less two balanced teams and the first period ended with 18-18 with the home team coming back from a -5 (13-18) in the last 2 minutes to the draw, with Dixon and Fisher leading their team while on behalf of the visitors Dejan Cup (202-PF-83) was the leading figure with his 9 points.
The second period continued in the same mode as the first with Subotic and Iakovos Panteli (187-G-85) assisting a lot their team in the offensive part as they were answering back all the points coming mainly from Johnson and Donte Poole (190-G-89, college: Murray St.). AEK took a lead of five points 50 seconds before the end (37-32) but couldn't keep it as Etha with Donte Poole's three pointer at the end cut the deficit to just one basket 37-35
The third period was the best for the home team since with Iakovos Panteli, Subotic and Cvetinovic took a double digit lead (51-41), 4.22' before the end of the period. While with Dixon's three pointer increase the deficit to +11 2 minutes before the end of the 3rd period 55-44. Adegboye's three pointers simply cut the deficit at the end of the period to the 7 points (57-50). Everybody thought that Etha couldn't have the necessary psychology to do the comeback, but they were wrong! With Donte Poole at the leading role at the beginning of the last period, the visitors balanced the game with a fast 7-0 to 61-61 right after the first two minutes passed in the period. From then and on the game was dramatic, Donte Poole and Williams (who woke up at that stage) gave a +4 to Etha 65-69 while AEK with Fisher, Dixon and Subotic brought their team closer to the victory since the score 33 seconds before the end became 73-71 with the momentum belonging to the homers... In the most crucial point of the game Adegboye was able to dashed down an amazing offensive rebound to the missed shot by Dejan Cup and that was the turning point of the game since Williams earn the foul from Papadopoulos and with two free throws balanced the game 13 seconds before the end of it to 73-73. Subotic was the fatal player for his team as in the most crucial moment for his team was called for travelling 9 seconds to go and in exactly the next phase of the game, Downey with 2 seconds to the end scored ona fast break the winning basket for Etha. Top scorers: AEK: Iakovos Panteli 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 turnovers, Dixon 15, Subotic 13, Fisher 11 Etha: Donte Poole 16, Downey 13, Cup 11, Williams 10
Keravnos Strovolou - Ydra Asfalistiki ENAD 83-58
Not many words needed for a 30 points game since the top seated team of Coach Yiannaras face no problem against the last seated team of Coach Stylianidis. By the beginning of the second period the difference was already to the +24 points fro the Strovolos team (34-10) while the difference never went down to 15 points from the beginning to the end. There is no relation between the two team's strength and the victory came normally to the unbeaten team of Keravnos Strovolou which is currently at the 4-0 series. It is worth mentioned that with ENAD the American center Maurice Bolden did his debut.

Regarding the Super Cup against Aek, it was mentioned in another post that the game was easy for Aek. This is completely false. As a matter of fact during the second quarter the score went to 40-32 for Apoel with the half closing 43-40 again for Apoel. At 32' the score was 67-63 for Apoel and from there on Apoel ran out of strength against a very high budgeted team and a team that is well ahead in terms of physical condition.
The first official game of the season found the champions to add another trophy in their series, as the team of Coach Linos Gavriel beat quite easy APOEL of the Greek Coach Jimmy Koustenis with 92-75 proving from the early beginning that things may stay the same for another one season. AEK Larnakas with the most expensive roster of the league having in its roster an amazing duet, Torey Thomas and Alex Harris (196-G-86) show no mercy and especially after the 21st minute they took the lead... The first official game of the season found the champions to add another trophy in their series, as the team of Coach Linos Gavriel beat quite easy APOEL of the Greek Coach Jimmy Koustenis with 92-75 proving from the early beginning that things may stay the same for another one season. AEK Larnakas with the most expensive roster of the league having in its roster an amazing duet, Torey Thomas and Alex Harris (196-G-86) show no mercy and especially after the 21st minute they took the lead and never watch back. The score in the second time was 52-30!! APOEL begun the game very well but somewhere in the middle of the game the strength and passion from Koustenis players was not enough to compete the furious champions who had three players in double digits and another three very close to the double digits, while Coach Gavriel use his 11 out of 12 players (only the veteran Garcia remain at bench) splitting the time quite balanced while he saw Alex Harris (the MVP of the game) being in an amazing shape scoring 20 points with nearly perfect stats, dashing down 4 rebounds, sharing 2 assists and gaining three fouls remaining in the court the longest than all his team-mates, followed by Torey Thomas, with the amazing American point guard scoring another 20 points in 26 minutes, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 block shot!! while the Cyprus Captain of the team, Iacovos Panteli added 16 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists..
On behalf of APOEL now, Coach Koustenis use 9 players out of his 12, with Bussey remaining 34 minutes in the court, followed by Brown who played for 32 minutes and Mobley who played for 31 minutes while close to the 30 minutes was also Wright (he played eventually 28 minutes) something which shows initially that the roster of AEK is much more solid, while Coach Koustenis tried to do his bet with the players he had. Top scorer for APOEL was Robert Brown (196-G-92, college: UAB) who scores 20 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal with 1 Block shot followed by Brandon Mobley (206-F-91, college: Seton Hall, agency: HMS) who scored 12 points and 6 rebounds, and Tre Bussey who added 11 points.
The periods were 19-21, 21-22, 27-16, and 25-16 while AEK had the amazing 55.2% in the three pointers with 16 out of 29!! with Thomas, Panteli and Harris scoring 13 three pointers with an average of 64%!!!!
AEK was much more ready team than APOEL since Gavriel's players allready played 3 official European games and they came together at least a month before APOEL'w players, at the same time though the depth of the roster of the two teams has nothing to compare as AEK with the addition of Sizopoulos has 5 active international players (Panteli, Sizopoulos, Palalas, Koumis and Trisokkas), 7 Americans (Thomas, Thompson, Goodwin, Harris, Biggs and Garcia with the two of them having a Cyprus passport) and the Slovenian seven footer Primoz Berec, so this roster is amazing and it seems to be "untouchable" at this stage. Of course the season just begun and the "race" will be long, so let the league begin!!
